Tip for Canadian screenprinters/stencillers:

Cotton Ginny's got a sale on now, 40% off the lowest ticketed price on a lot of spring/summer items. Now, Cotton Ginny isn't everyone's style, but you can get a lot of terrific plain t-shirts. I picked up a few yesterday, most for as little as $6. They're high-quality cotton, some traditional t-style and some fitted baby-tee style. A good selection of colours too -- I got red, black, bright pink and such.

I plan to use mine for screenprinting and stencilling, so I thought I'd mention it for those of you who don't shop at Cotton Ginny regularly.

When I first learned to bind books, I started to make this book, but I put it away, found it today, and finished it. Seven 6-page folded signatures (so 12 pages per signature; you do the math). I used those thick brown paper bags from the supermarkets as end papers, as well as the cover (over matte board). The pages were burned with matches around the edges and were soaked in water (not tea or coffee stained, however; this was just to wash away the excess ashes). Bound together with just plain white sewing thread, and then I had no good glue at the time so I started to stick it together with clear packaging tape. I finished it off today and stuck an extra USPS label on the front and titled it "The Old Package." It's just a blank journal; and I probably won't use it, lol.

I have about 6 years of old movie tickets that my boyfriend has saved. Just about all of them are movies that we have seen together. I've been looking for a way to display them. There are about 100 movies worth, two stubs each. They vary in shape, size and color and most of them are the type of paper that is printed thermally rather than with ink. Anything hot glue or iron on is out of the question. Maybe there is a way to protect it from heat as well? Any ideas?

Did another one. I found some signatures I sewed together and some uncorrugated cardboard I had from another unfinished project. I used leftover black paper & rose scrapbooking paper, my 3M Super77 spray glue, packaging tape, and images from LOFT frames (one which held multiple photos for my bf, and one more image from a LOFT frame he gave me). I thought the black & white photos used in the frames were beautiful so I saved them, but I didn't have any use for them. This is just another blank journal, but it's kind of crappy. Don't know what I'm going to use it for just yet. Might just stick random photo finds (such as the LOFT images) throughout the whole book. Or create word poetry using cutouts, like magnetic poetry -- but not magnetic.

I actually meant for the photo on the cover to be centered, but the spray glue was so tacky and I had already gotten so much on my hands that it sort of just fell into place all diagonal. I also never meant to use the clear packaging tape, but the cover ripped a bit because I didn't leave enough room between the spine & cover boards, so I had to remove the spine cardboard piece altogether. The white paper from inside also stuck out all funny so I tried to trim it to stay in, but I trimmed it pretty unevenly. Ha ha.. messy sloppy job. There's packaging tape all over the place. I used the rest of the LOFT images randomly throughout the journal. The largest one is in the very middle of the book. Yep, and that's all.

i was in monterey last weekend and i saw a belt made out of strings of seed beads. there were probably like 10-15 strands and there was one string that was wrapped around the middle and you tied it so that the ends flowed on the side of you.
i was trying to figure out how many "hanks" of beads i would need and how much it would cost. a hank is 12 strands of 18" beads. yah. cause it would've cost me 48 bucks to buy one there. yup.

My sister-in-law is due to have my nephew soon. In like a couple weeks.
I want to do something different for him.
They plan on naming him Camden.
I wanted to do something cool with wooden blocks that spell out his name.
He would be sharing his nursery with his 15-month-old brother, so there is not a ton of room in there. It is a decent size room..plenty of room to play, a queen sized bead, a changing table, a crib, a bookshelf, an end table, and other things fit in there and still leave plenty of walking room.
Now...I will be buying the plain colored blocks and painting them myself. What kind of paint would best be used on wooden blocks? And is there like a cover or a sealer I should use?
What I was thinking of doing was buying like a mini shelf and glueing he blocks on there. But also glueing wooden painted trains or something.
I just want something neat for his nursery. I want something I could make.
I looked through the memories section and nothing jumped out at me...so any suuggestions would help.

Also, do we have a tutorial section here? I made this beaded cuff out of mini pony beads, and I made a tutorial-that I hope would help people-and I would post it in here if anyone was interested...I am not sure if that is allowed though.

I saw the neatest thing this weekend while out and about... Rolled Soap! I thought it was so pretty. I think it could be done with M&P or milled soap. I think I have it down on how to make it.

Lay out some wax paper and place flower petals, herbs, etc on the sheet. Melt your soap base and color as desired (looks cool with clear base) let the soap start to re-thicken, and when it is still pourable, yet getting stiff, pour over the herbs, etc in a roughly rectangle shape(about 1/8in thick).

Once the soap is solid and still flexible, flip the wax paper over on to another sheet (so the soap is between two sheets of wax paper) and peel off the top sheet. Roll the soap swiss cake roll style. Let cool fully.

Putting a bundle of them together standing in a glass, or fanned in a basket looks neat. Kind of like cinnamon sticks!

HELP!

I looked in the FAQ's and (obviously) didn't find any references...but I would like to know how to make hand puppets. I can *kind of* picture it, but any advice from people that have done it would rawk!

Thanks!

Once was a sweatshirt - XL - that I got as a present in like 3rd grade. I wouldn't wear it anymore but it was sooo cute I couldn't part with it so it became a skirt. Yay?

Mucho thanks for the uploading of these pictures.
[livejournal.com profile] fuuangel & [livejournal.com profile] displeasure have them uploaded on their servers as I am a big dork and cannot figure out how to do it on my own.

This is meant for the memories section. Maybe people will stop asking me how to make these now…lol…*knock on wood*

I am putting it behind cut because it is huge

[identity profile] run-igmo-run.livejournal.com
hey, i need your lovely ideas. i'm in photography and since i'm just starting, i've wasted many sheets of photo paper.. either overxposed ones [all black] or unfocused, or lighter than they should be. ive got some plain black photo paper too, that i basically murdered the first day.
so.. this all brings me to the question... what to do with them? they're expensive so i wouldnt want to just throw them away..

thanks in advance

EDIT: some of them are actual pictures that came out wrong.. yeah... maybe that's helpful.
