My mom runs a publication for writers, Seasons For Writing, and we're trying to think of some new ideas for little items we could mail to contributers and subscribers who help out, or send new people our way...my mother has done things like order pencils with the publication's name on them, and sometimes we find nifty bookmarks or books to mail, but I thought it might be fun to make something. Any ideas for cheap (both to make, and to mail later on) and not too difficult bookmarks, or other things? It would be nice to get the name in, but it's not necessary...we just want to keep the item on a reading/writing theme...

OKAYOKAY, ignore what's on the purse[i didn't make it]

I tried in another community but they didn't help me, and so here I am.

I was wondering if any of you had a pattern or something for this type of purse[or maybe one with stripes(fabric)]

I have never made a purse by myself, and the style for this one has been inspirational.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

ok, tuesday night I saw Dave Matthews Band & bought a shirt. The shirt is a medium and I usually wear an x-small or a small, I was planning on cutting up the seams and re-hemming it and what not, but the shirt has no seams going down the sides, and it's hemed @ the bottom. So I was wondering, what is the best way to resize it? Should I make seams going up the side?

help!!!

I haven't tried this yet, but I bookmarked it a long time ago. For those who don't like iron-on transfers and aren't silkscreening:

thirftdeluxe.biz!

I've done silkscreening in class before -- back in high school and a silkscreening class at the community college; fun fun.. I love using the photo-emulsion technique, but I have no money to invest in all that. Plus no dark room for exposure. I hated the other techniques, the quality isn't what I wanted. I have yet to try this.

OK- it is that time of year again. Time for me to get new shoes.
I am planning on buying white or close to white chuck taylors and then painting then with fabric paint. So my first question is: What kind of fabric paint would be appropriate for shoes? I need it to be waterproof, rainproof, and morning-dew-walking-to-school-proof, etc.
Also, after I paint on some funky colors I was (am hopefully) going to attach lace with a cool design and paint black over, hopefully leaving a cool black lace pattern with funky colors showing thru. Is there a way to temporarily affix the lace without it moving so i can get the paint on without smearing? Is there a way to cover the parts of the shoes i want white so they don't get lacy?
If anyone can help me, I would like to thank you profusely in advance. I'm really exited about these shoes.

Well, it's finally finished, my very first handmade journal :)

I put in 20 sheets (5x7) of handmade paper (made from mostly just colored sheets I had laying around & some newspaper). The base for the cover is that thick posterboard (it's 2 pieces of posterboard with a piece of foam between them). It's about 3/16" thick. I covered it in dark red deer suede (really soft & buttery feeling!) I used 20 gauge silver wire to bind it together. Then I painted on the Kanji for "eternity" since I figure most of us write journals to immortalize events in our lives :) And finally added some cane trees for a border.

Journal! )

I finally finished my friend's birthday present tonight. I bought these glasses at Pier 1 and then did glass etching on them. I cut the design out with a paper punch I bought at Michael's... worked well! I wanted to keep them for myself!
