I wasn't sure if anyone had posted this, so I'll risk being overzealous and post it now: http://www.artbytheinch.com/

I found this in a post in another community, but I thought I'd ask for some tips from you guys! The more I think about it the more it seems like a really neat project. Only I haven't sewed since middle school, and I don't think about bras much except for their function. Any ideas on what you'd do to a bra as a work of art?

I wonder if I could cover one in picture marbles (like from marble magnets), or beads, feathers? No idea. @_@;

Tis the season to get a new sewing machine!

It seems like everyone has either just gotten, or is about to get, a new sewing machine.

With my favorite new possession, I would like to begin making my own bags for trisaratops! products instead of just altering store bought ones.

There is a really huge demand for messenger bags right now.
And I was wondering if any of you had a good pattern for a medium sized, sturdy messenger-type bag.
Even if I need to go to the store and get one, have you used one brand's pattern in particular that turned out really well?

Oh, also, I was interested in a pattern for reversible totes. So if you have one of those, I'd appreciate that as well.

I checked the FAQs and found nothing to my liking.

Thanks for your help, guys! <3

This is a little polar fleece sweatsuit that I made for my friend's 4 year old girl. They had to have a brown outfit to wear to school. I made the flower to cuten it up a bit. :) It was made from a Burda pattern.

Sorry for the poor picture, I couldn't get rid of the glare no matter what I did. :/

Here is my costume. I went as Leela from Futurama. It is REALLY hard to see through that eye, but I played through. :) The wrist band and boot covers are made from duct tape. The eye, boot covers and wristband were all homemade.

This thing on my wrist says it's edible. )

This year I made my own Costume!!
Picture )
[identity profile] queenelectric.livejournal.com
Took a break from quilting today to make these. )It was simple as pie, I just took a couple fake flower leis ($1.19 at the Magic Dollar Discount Store) and cut them up, then glued three flowers and a big tacky iridescent rhinestone to a magnet. Yep, more magnets. They're for my little girl, I think they look pretty but not good enough to eat. I hope.

I made nine because I just happened to have that many same-size magnets, which means I used twenty-seven flowers. Which is great, because it means I have TEN MILLION left for more crafts!

My mom and I did a craft fair last weekend and did REALLY well with record bits - besides bowls we've made boxes, vases, birdfeeders...

Anyways! We were trying out some new ideas for our next craft fair, and came up with a 2 tiered party platter (our take on one of these, although this is a 3 tier)

3 fair sized photos )

First we took a record, and heated it till quite soft, so we could cut it into a rectangle. Then we reheated it and bent in the sides slightly to make a stand. We bought a piece of 5/16 continuous thread rod (does anyone know the proper name for it?) and nuts to match (2 per record, so in this case, 6). We cut the rod in half, as it is quite long, then threaded on a nut, the base, a nut, then a nut, a bowl, a nut, and then the last nuts and bowl. We topped it with a wingnut. I'm sorry the pictures are ass, my camera sucks. I hope you all understand what I've done.

Bring on the chips and nuts, baby!

man mums

how do you make homecoming garters (those man mums that guys put on their arms)? how big are the mum flowers on garters typically? the flower i bought looked small in the bag, but when i opened it up.. it was almost as big as a CD! i bought a lot of things i found in that section like ribbon, cardboard backing, charms (what do we use to hang the charms with?)

i checked google.com and checked over the memories section, but i couldn't find anything relavant. thanks in advance :)

Has anyone ever used "clear" or "invisible" thread in their sewing machine?
If so, did you like it?
Did you need to do anything differently when threading it through the machine, or does it work the same way normnal thread would?

Call me curious! I love sewing!
[identity profile] yellowsocks.livejournal.com
Since everyone seems to be in the spirit of talking about their sewing machine, I thought I'd mention mine. A couple weeks ago my Grandma bought a new machine and I inherited her old one. It's a Brother Boutique 761. I haven't had much time to play with it yet at all, and unfortunately my Grandma has never had a manual for it. Has anyone else ever had this style of model? Any tips or tricks I should know for using a Brother? I always used a Kenmore at home, so this machine is a touch on the foreign side to me.

I made everything but the shirt!! I even painted the green stripes on the stockings, only to find that Hot Topic sells them premade. :(
under the cut are closeups of the hat, the purple pieman, and some stuffed aliens I made over the weekend.

lookee )
[identity profile] pinkplasticgun.livejournal.com
You know the loopy horror of bump bobbin thread appearing on the top side of the fabric , I can't seem to fix it. My tension is set to 0 (the higher the no. , the tighter the tension), i've cleaned everything out. I'm just sewing through cotton.
I'm using a janome my style 28 , so anyone know what i should do ? I don't really have the time to bring it in and have it serviced.

Thanks!

Has anyone made one with a picture on the front and clear tape over the top? If so, I'd like to see it. I'm thinking of doing a small collage on mine... when I finally buy the supplies.
[identity profile] adorkablequeen.livejournal.com
Ok guys, I figured that if anyone could help me with this, you could. I'm trying to win back my ex whom I am totally in love with and I am in need of romantic and crafty maybe things I can do.

I used to have them on the strap of my messanger bag..then everyone did it.
I also used to have a few on my backpack, but they fell off and looked a little tacky with so much of them...soo..any ideas cuz i don't want to rid of them so quickly...
thanks =)

there are bleach spots ranging from one inch to five inches in diameter all over the hallway carpet. our carpet is green, not dark, but not mint. i may loose my life over this, so has anyone ever had a similar situation? hair dye or paint on the carpet? on the PARENTS carpet?
all i can think right now is using fabric dye, or really diluted paint... i NEED to cover this up.
i am also really dumb, so you dont need to know how the stains got there... just that they are there.
[identity profile] addwag.livejournal.com
anyone seen any really cool ways of presenting a portfolio (print, cd, resume and artist statement?) Pleas share!!

I have been a lurker for months, bc my digital camera was mad at me, but I finally got it working!
I have 4 HUGE pics of 2 paintings and 2 t-shirts that I have done.
Pics of mom's Christmas gift to follow, whenever the rest of the supplies arrive....

can anyone reccomend a good site or community for crocheting mary janes?

I saw them at Wal-Mart! Adorable, overpriced and not available in a size bigger than small.

I can't help but think these would be perfect for my mom, who is diabetic and has been reduced to wearing ill-fitting slippers to avoid constant hospitalization for ulcer-induced bone infections.

any help would be appreciated!

I was just curious, with all the halloween costume posts that have been going up, if there's going to be a section added to the memories for costumes? i'm getting some great ideas for next years halloween, but unfortunately that's another361 days away! and i know i'm going to want to come back to this next year sometime for ideas and likely won't be able to find it if its not in the memories!
