Hey! I was at Urban Outfitters today, and I saw these bracelets that I sort of liked. But they were $12, and I can NEVER bring myself to pay that much for a little bracelet that seems pretty easy to make. I couldn't find it on their website, but I found a picture somewhere else of a necklace that looks just like it:

I'd want to make that, only in bracelet form. So, elastic and pearly beads and ribbon can all be purchased at a craft store... right? I mean, I know you can buy elastic and ribbon. But what about big beads like that? And even if you can buy them at craft stores, are they really expensive?

I guess I'm just asking if it would be less expensive to just buy it at Urban Outfitters, or try to make one myself. Any other help would be awesome.

Hi grrls! I have a Mardi Gras theme party to attend tomorrow night, and could not find a suitable flower to stick in my hair. After a couple of hours of shopping, I gave up and made these out of felt instead. I think I will use the red one either as a hair tie or clip.

What do u think?

Hi, I've been lurking about this community for a couple of weeks now, answering to other's posts here and there, but I've not yet gotten around to posting something myself and thought it high time I did. So here goes.

My name's Karin and there's 28 summers and counting. I do lots of different crafts. Here's a link to my webpage, where I show most of my stuff (safe the things I've been unable to get pics of as yet, but they're coming ^_^). If you click on the pictures, it'll take you to more stuff I've made.

I really enjoy reading about all your ideas and stuff, and I hope to add to them from time to time myself. I'm currently working on both a vest (knitted) and I'm x-stitching some Forever Friends thing, from which I'll probably make a pillow or something.
I think this is it for now. Keep the ideas coming, you're all awesome ^_^

Is anyone using the Handy Stitch? If so, how do you like it? Made anything with it yet?

I just bought one and I've already made a couple of rice heating bags with it. So far, it works well.... (^_^)

i just want to say thank you to everyone who left me positive feedback about my pop art room. i wish i had the time to reply to everyone who commented but unfortunately i dont have the time :(

i do want to tell you that it made me feel great to know that you guys liked it!

some of you had questions for me, ill try to answer them
- yup! i painted directly on my walls. the marilyn monroe wall was the first wall i painted and i did it entirely freehand - no stencils- and it took FOREVER. the roy lichenstein wall i used a projector and it was much easier but still time consuming (and it's probably a lot more accurate!)

- i did make the leg lamp. theres no way id pay 200$ for one! the leg was reeeeeeally hard to find though

- i cant say for sure, but id say the total cost was around $100-$200 ($50 of it was for the red paint) i found a lot of the decorations around the house and at thrift stores. and some of the artwork (like the hands above my dresser) is a hell yes jess original with super cheap frames.

- and yes, i will rent out my room!
- however, i dont think i could marry any one of you. heh :)

the only bad thing is that im away at school in an apartment and my room is at my parents house so i cant enjoy it! ive been busy trying to come up with ideas to decorate my room here but its tough because i cant put any holes into the walls or pain on them plus, i spend all of my money on art supplies for school. any ideas?

Here's the font and back of a bag that I made to lug around all my art supplies. The seven images are all from Anne Taintor. She takes great retro images and adds her own funny, sarcastic captions. I bought these as postcards from a stationery store in downtown West Chester, and made the bag around them. I call it my 'breakup bag.' Aah, it's hard being this fabulous. :)
clockwise from upper left: "She eagerly threw herself into the paths of unsuitable men," "She was eager to stoop to his level," "And then she realized...they were all alike," "He was not as fascinating as he had once appeared." left to right: "Bitter? Moi?" "Pain was too good for him," "He couldn't become a distant memory soon enough to suit her."

Let me know what you think! I've already had three people attempt to buy it out of my hands while walking down the street, so the reception has been pretty good so far.

heeeelp.

Okay I'm in a dilemma. I was getting ready to do a quick project using my sewing machine. I loaded up the bobbin and everything else.

All I needed to do was do that thing when you pull up the bobbin string with the loop and such.
(I don't know what it's called. Oops.)

So I'm trying to do that and it wont work! Last time I sewed with my machine it was fine.

I sew often and I'm not a beginner or anything. Arg. This is really frustrating.
Any suggestions as to what's wrong?

Heres my evil non-cooperating sewing machine.

I recently lost a few pounds (ok, it was 94lbs) anyway, I was going through all my old clothes making room for some new things and I had like 20 belts that I had absolutely no use for, I wanted to make some cuffs out of them, but they're all really nice belts and I decided to put them up on ebay...anyway!

I still wanted to make myself some fantastic little accessories so i got some 99cent belts from goodwill and after some tweaking and grommeting (is that a word) I had myself a new leather cuff

Hello everybody! I'm just enjoying a quiet night at home and I started making these little notebooks I saw here, with some empty food boxes I had lying around. And then another idea hit me...the boxes on the small side could be used as envelopes! I thought it'd be neat to send a letter in an envelope like that. What I did was just flatten the box out and cut off all the little flaps on the long side. I cut out the back of the box and the front, but with the front I left the top flap attached. I'm sorry if I'm not explaining this well! Then I just matched up the front and back and taped all along the bottom and sides so there aren't any holes. When it's ready to be sent off, I will use the top flap to seal the envelope, probably with more clear masking tape. Anyway, just thought I'd share. I think it's a neat way to recycle something you'd ordinarily throw out and whoever receives it might get a kick out of getting a cheese sticks or pop tart envelope. :)

blank cds

I am making a special mix CD package for a friend and I don't want the blank CD text to show, but I don't have a printer to make a sticky label.

Can I paint the top of the CD? Can I glue thin paper on top?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

x-posted all over.

A couple days ago, I tried again to make a stuffed animal. This time I didn't have any particular "animal" in mind. I still didn't use a pattern ( although I probably should so I can figure out how to give it more of a roundish shape ).

I just drew a sketch and basically made it come to life from there.

Tada!
