i'm finally going to try and make some stenciled shirts. i was just wondering if i could use regular spray paint. how well would that work? also, how well does acrylic paint hold up? would it just be better to use fabric paint? thanks for any help!

this is the first time i have posted pictures up in this hizzo. i'm excited yes.

oh man, i hope all of that worked. <3 happy valentine's day everyone!

i dont have pictures. i wish i did. but it was for my mom for v-day.
i made a pair of slippers. which...as much as i was thinking it would be simple was SO hard. and i should have used thinner foam, but itll sink down.
anyway. i took foam, the green furniture foam. cut it in the shape of a slipper (using one of her old ones as a model) cut out a piece of black fur for the top part, a strip of red the height of the foam and the length around it for the sides...and just really improvised the top. theyre closed toe, made of fleece on the inside, stuffed with pillow stuffing, red fur on the outside, and a fleece band next to that. the bottom was the issue. i wanted to get a design for the tread, and i tried to find ... well. stuff to make it. and then i gave up on it. i was planning on making these for her for christmas or her birthday (jan 8th) but i never got the time. so i had everything i..thought i needed. the tread was an issue though, i took an old pair of jeans, cut the bottom of the leg off, opened it up, and traced the slipper on it. coated it with fabric puff paint with a brush, let it dry a bit, drew hearts in black for texture. filled those with gold and silver glitter. let it dry, then i drew stripes across it, and mushed them together a bit. so they *kinda* resemble tread. they work though. the sewing was all done by hand as my machine was being a dork. like it always is. so that was my crafting for v-day. i swear, im cleaning my rooms tommorow, and then ill start more crafts. but...im just surrounded by a mess. >.<

and a quick question. i have stinky books. most are salvation army/library buys. and tons of them. say...3 bookshelves full? i think? there are more in the basement. i need to cull out the herd >.< a bunch are reference books, mostly photos, that i use for references for painting. a 30-some volume animal encyclopedia..things like that. theyre worth their weight in gold to me..even though they cost me like..a dollar. haha. and i want to read the ones that i bought..for reading, but they give me a killer headache because of the 'old smell'. so my question is... how do i get rid of it? do you think if i put them into a big rubbermaid tote... with a bunch of baking soda and let them in there for a few weeks...it would help? or any other ideas? i love these books =(
[identity profile] grimms-creed.livejournal.com
So I want to put some curtains onto my many overstuffed bookcases. Something to over the mess and make things pretty. But I can't seem to figure out how. It has to be something that will still let me get to my books when I want to (there's a reason they're so overcrowded!) and that I can take down to wash without too much hassle, since I have allergies.

Anyone have ideas?

I feel like such an idea moocher. I promise that I'll post some crafty things here soon, but with 19 credits this semester, it's been a little rough on my non-school work time.

that being said, one of my new friends who I just met this semester gave me a balloon for valentine's day. being that i'm disgustingly sentimental, I want to keep it after the helium is out of it... any thoughts on what I could DO with it, besides putting it on a wall or in a scrapbook? :)

thanks!
(hope everyone had a good valentines day, single or not!)

Okay i saw this shirt

and i must recreate it, because i'm not going to buy it.

i have a dark purple t-shirt and yellow fabric paint... would yellow on purple suck.. or look cooler than lets say WHITE ON PURPLE

because i'm not sure if i should hold out and go buy some white.

i know that purple and yellow are complimentary, but i wonder if white would be easier to read.

happy [belated] valentine's everyone.

my bf and i somewhat postponed ours due to a recent death in my family. it was supposed to be a make-and-bake-vday for us, but we still did the making gifts part.

i just had to post what he did -- it is too awesome.

meet mr. weird guy! :)
he's a polar bear made of felt and stuffed with poly-fil.
he did everything for the most part and handsewed the eyes and whatnot, lol, and he had his mom help him sew the bear's body together.

Is there a site-resource where I can go to find old images that are ‘public domain’ (to use in collage)?

EDIT: Where is the public domain?
The public domain is not a place. A work of authorship is in the “public domain” if it is no longer under copyright protection or if it failed to meet the requirements for copyright protection. Works in the public domain may be used freely without the permission of the former copyright owner.

i need some help

i have this old blink 182 trucker hat...its black mesh with a black brim and a white front with a blink 182 logo...

unfortunatly i bought it when i really like blink, but now i'd like to wear it...without the blink logo on it. i'd take a picture, but my server is down so i cant post it for a while.

do you have any ideas of what i could do to cover up the logo and make it wearable? the logo takes up a good portion of the front. i was thinking about buying a patch and pinning it over it, but i didnt know if any of you had any awesome ideas on how to make it wearable again :)
[identity profile] euthanize.livejournal.com
just finished this bag...I used matte dark green seed beads, with metallic gunmetal colored seed beads for the stripe and fringe accents. I also used hematite chips, 4mm hematite rounds, and 8mm hematite rounds for the fringe and strap. all that hematite makes it a lot heavier than my other bags. I really like the color combination and the contrast of the matte and metallic beads.

Thanks a lot

dear fine people of craftgrrl:

okay, this may be repetitive and if it is i apologize in advance now-- i looked through the faq and somehow missed it then.

i am thinking of creating small self-promotional items for myself to get myself a little bit exposed, i guess is a good term. i'm a printmaker/illustrator, so i figured it'd make sense to put my name out on the streets (possibly even quite literally!) wherever i go. also, to possibly sell stickers and pins as a small monetary thing. i know i won't get rich but i have a few purposes where this may come in handy.

so here's my question-- i was looking at http://www.notkeren.com and saw her wonderful buttons and stickers. so far i've figured that if i were to buy a machine, the badge-a-minit is my best bet (although am i wrong? any suggestions?), and i was wondering if anyone had experience with xyron machines, as i couldn't find anything in the faq. are these good? in addition, i was wondering about the packaging elements of these things. if you look at keren's buttons, they look pretty damn professional, and while i know that kind of packaging isn't difficult (plastic baggie here, cardstock there, staple and bingo!) does anyone know where to get supplies for that? i'm thinking of working my silkscreening into that and just screening the packaging.

thanks in advance!

Hello! I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers for Valentine's Day, and I know I want to do something with them but I'm not sure what yet. I have quite a few dried flowers but it seems like they tend to just sit in a vase in my room and get dusty and then eventually i accidently hit one or something and it breaks. With the last bouquet of flowers I got, I put some in a frame with some tissue paper behind it, so it was this kind of 3D thing. It was really cute, but I don't really want to do that again, and I was only able to use like one flower and some baby's breath, when I would prefer to be able to keep the majority of these flowers--not just one or two. So does anyone have any suggestions? Either on an alternative to drying flowers or what to do with the dried flowers? I did check the FAQ, and I got some ideas, which actually stemmed some other questions. In one entry it talked about microwaving the flowers. Exactly what kind of an effect does that have on the flowers? Also, for pressing flowers....can you really press roses and big full flowers like that? How exactly do you do it? I'd think it would just smoosh it and make it really ucky. Most of the bouquet is roses, carnations, and lilies (if I'm guessing correctly!), do those flowers really press that well? I can understand pressing really thin flowers like daisies or something but I'm having a hard time imagining it with roses. Thank you so much for your advice!

I never got around to posting these, so I though I'd share, even if it is a bit late. we made quilts for some of our christmas presents this year. other than the moose quilt, it was almost all scraps and pieces i already had, so all the patterns had to be created to fit the size of the fabric pieces, which was a bit challenging. i'm very happy with them, it had been so long since i'd made a quilt. and now i'm all inspired, so i'm making my sister a quilt with Harry Potter fabric right now.

My partner's mom's quilt, with celestial print rectangles and border and all her favourite colours. i designed the quilt, then reese did almost of the sewing, his first quilt! the only thing he'd sewn before this was boxers.

I found the coolest pattern ever- it's white with black mooses. It makes me happy, because the moose-thing is some sort of an inside joke I share with some close friends.

Ladies, gentlemen, PLEASE HELP ME! What do you use as the... well, the thing you cut out on homemade stencils? Paper? Cardboard? What do you use to prevent the expanded-look?

All right, I have another question already! A good friend of mine is pregnant, and I want to make something for her. However, she is giving the baby up for adoption. What might be an appropriate gift for this situation? I was originally planning on knitting/crocheting a blanket but I thought that might not be quite the right thing to do. Any ideas?
Edit: She is giving the baby up for adoption because she cannot afford it financially right now and knows it wouldn't be a supportive environment for it. So she's kind of sad but she knows she's doing the right thing. Also, she intends to have a relationship with the child afterwords--an open adoption.

(PICTURES ON THE INSIDE ARE BETTER)

I'm cool. Why, you ask? Because I have a collective transport youth card, which helps me save 150 bucks a month. I get a card and a receipt (that has to show if I take the train), and even a handy little plastic thing to keep it in. Very basic. Just two plastic pockets. The problem is that I always stuff my other three cards in it as well (library card, school ID, visa electron), and hence the plastic pockets always burst, which pisses the train/bus people off.

So I was bored, and decided to try making a cooler one out of masking tape. Actually, I wanted to make one in a fancy magazine clipping, but I liked the masking tape so much that I just used that. I'm going to make people draw on it, I think (I go to an art school).

What I needed:
Three pockets for normal cards
A see-through pocket for the bus card (so that they can see my face on the train)
A see-through pocket for the receipt

Oh, and the "decoration" is pixies-themed. Wrote "levitate me" in a bubble on the outside, and lyrics to "velouria" on the inside. The thing is held together by another piece of masking tape, where I drew a wand just because I wanted to.

so i've just finished searching through the FAQ and i'm still left with a few questions.

first of all, just to verify, iron on transfers are photos you print off of your computer onto special paper and iron them onto shirts... right?

once i understand that, HOW do i do it? my goal is to put a picture of marilyn monroe's face on a light pink tshirt. so to do this i would need to get the picture of her and sharpen it or whatever on photoshop and then print it out on the special paper? and the ink from my printer is what goes onto the shirt? is the paper what makes the ink sticky-like?

also, is there any special method or anything i need to to when doing an iron-on on a light pink tshirt?

sorry the question is so long. i'm just a bit confused. what i basically am looking for is a blunt "this is what you have to do" tutorial or something. thanks everyone.
