at the beginning of the year i made one new year's resolution.
that was to learn how to sew.
well, now i am learning and i just finished my first ever project:
sleep pants.
i just had to share it with y'all.

this is just a close-up of the fabric, which i am in love with.
i plan to make a skirt from it, once i get better at sewing.
wanna see the whole thing? )

I'm sure many of you know about subversivecrossstitch.com

but I just wanted to share that I ordered a kit from them less than a week ago and got it today
and it is AMAZING
not only do I now love cross stitching, but I've got a million and one ideas for my own designs

There's nothing like a sassy take on a craft to get a girl like me into something I never thought I'd like

okay, I'm done gushing now
I just thought I'd share
and if you haven't seen the site yet
I highly recommend it...obviously...

I recently re-did a jewelry box that I found at a thrift store (I’d post it, but I haven’t got a digital camera). It’s actually the first time I’ve sanded and painted an item. I had a lot of fun and plan to do more. Here’s some info on the box as well as a question:

OKaY, I know it's here somewhere, but I can NOT find it for the life of me. I can remember the post perfectly: someone had gotten a camo jacket and needed to resize it, and wanted tips in how to go about doing it. Well, now I have a camo jacket that I need to resize!! I was thinking about cutting up the seam: up the side and through the underseam of the sleeve. Then, cutting out a chunk parallel to the seam and sewing it back together. Will this work, or will my jacket be hideously deformed??

how would i do the measurments for the grey part? and would it go all the way down to the red ruffle. and i would sew the ruffles on top of the grey part?

Hi!
I found some old Sculpey and was experimenting with it to see if I remembered how to use the stuff. I made a nifty little panda to give to a friend's niece. However, when I baked it, the panda's white parts tanned.
Is it possible to paint the white parts white again (and with what kind of paint if yes), or should my gift come with an elaborate backstory about Panda's Florida vacation and the importance of using sunscreen?

Thanks :)

hey girlies! =) i have a question for the lot of you.

i recently bought OODLES of bangle earrings and haven't any place to keep them. any crafty ideas/suggestions for earring racks/jewelery boxes/means of storage for enormous hook earrings? i wouldn't mind having them out in the open, provided i could string them along something effectively.

any&all replies would be greatly appreciated. thank you much!

xoxo,
'leigh

Thank you to everyone who recommended projects to me for my mother to make for Easter! I think I am going with the washcloth bunnies.

Thanks again.

i've dyed wool roving with koolaid before & felted it, but i've never tried to dye yarn. here is my first try with yarn "harvested" from unravelled thriftshop sweater one.

.

a koolaid opera, in two parts. )

the next batch (sweater two in the photo, i'm going to leave sweater three as is since i do love the green) i am just going to do solid colours because the yarn is darker and won't take "painting" so well. now i just have to figure out what i'm going to do with all this stuff since i estimated the yardage from just sweater one to be around 770yds. & i certainly don't want to make another sweater. hehe.

my friend broke up with her boyfriend today, and she's feeling pretty crappy. i want to make her something, nothing like "boys suck!" or anything.. but something doesn't really focus on boys. but something cute and slightly happy. ahha. and something i can make for tommorow. oh yeah, i'm not too much of a sewer. heh.

so i got the march "family fun" magazine and there was this hand-held drill (like the size of an exacto knife) that they say to go to a website to order. but i can't find it now! it's called the forster hand drill. has anyone seen one? own one? any idea where i can get one?
(they said to go to www.diamondbrands.com/craft but i can't find it there)
thanks!

how does one go about fixing this...

the polyurethane basically split a seem and peeled off its backing...i cannot sew it because it would put little holes to rip bigger holes...so i need to fuse it somehow...but with that kind of adhesive?

Has anyone ever free arm machine embroidered with their sewing machine?
I was interested in doing that with mine for fun.

Does anyone have any tips before I start?

Instead of practicing my flute tonight, I decided to make a shirt for the weather. This was a black tank top that I originally made and stenciled but the words are fading. Plus I don't like it anymore. So I worked my magic on it!! Hurrah for time mismanagement!! excuse the weird faces I make..

I was born to destroy you )

So I'm fairly new to the knitting game but I've gotten bored with doing just scarfs....

I really would like to use my full-potential for creativity when I'm knitting so this intarsia stuff is really interesting to me. I'm wondering if anyone else has done it and what were your thoughts about it? Is it pretty hard to find intarsia chart patterns for free?

Also, I just came across this great link for crocheters who like hello kitty and cute stuff!
Daphne's Bags
I haven't learned to crochet yet - my grandmother is supposed to teach me in trade for knitting lessons but she lives in another state so.... Knitting seems a lot easier to me. So bravo to knitters and crocheters alike. :o)

Well that is all for now.... <3

i've been in a desperate search for "Carpet Thread".
I'm sooooooo frustrated, i can't find it anywhere!
I've looked at Jo-Ann's, who used to carry it and no luck.
None of the employees were exactly helpful, either.
I looked in Wal-Mart's sewing area and they barely had any thread, period.
Michaels.. I haven't looked there yet, but that's my next stop.

I need it because I sew everything by hand, and it's the only 'standard' thread i'm comfortable with.
At least, i thought it was standard until i needed more!!
Regular machine thread unravels when used by hand, and other threads are just too thin.
Sometimes I use embroidery thread, which is thick, but the skeins don't supply much so it gets expensive when i tackle a project requiring plenty of thread.

This is *NOT* upholstery (spelling sucks, I know) thread, but CARPET thread.
Does anyone have anywhere I can search (online stores are fine) or anything close to carpet thread?

The best way i can describe Carpet thread is a little thicker than machine/standard thread, and the coating feels a little waxy.

ANY HELP IS GREAT.

Thanks <333

Also, I'll be posting a lot of pictures of projects sometime this week, because since i went to the mall and was inspired by Urban Outfitters DIY style expensive trendy clothing and forever 21's clothing, I'll be sewing and crafting like crazy. Plus I'm bored and I have tons of new ides.
