The warm weather is really inspiring... today i came home and made this tube top/shirt of sorts out of the bottom of two huge t-shirts i'd picked up at the thrift store see pics here )

i actually have been making a new item of clothing every day... today i made the shirt posted, and another tube top! I'm also heavily getting into making skirts...

ooh that reminds me, thank you to everyone who replied on the sewing spandex. I plan to pick up some ball point needles at the end of the week!

Also, do people know if hook and eye closures ever come on strips of ribbon ahead of time that you can just stitch onto things or do they only come unnattached?

I have been lurking for a whole bunch-o-months now and I just want to say that you people are amazing. I should really start being less of a lurker and let you people know when I'm stealing your ideas.

And unfortunitly I am starting it off on the wrong foot...

...I have a question (cringe is you must, and I will not blame you). I have decided to make beads out of magizine paper (I'll just make a huge stock pile to be used in future projects, but I figured it was something I could easily do instead of studying). Since I am new to crafting I really only have Elmer's School Glue. Am I okay with using this? Is there a glue that may hold for longer? Am I risking any bleeding of the magazine page's color? Any other things along those lines?

I thought that there was a page in the memories about glue...but I couldn't find it, perhaps I was looking to quickly or I was thinking of another crafting community.

And now that I've taken up way to much space, just so that I'm not completely stepping off on the wrong foot...here a picture of two recent projects I have made out of duct tape...

Well that's enough long windedness for now. Have a great day everyone.

ok people, I know this topic has been run into the ground, but I really need some advice about these little things.

I am using the Bond527 glue and it is FULL OF BUBBLES!
do you find that the silicone glue is better for this?

did I miss a post somewhere about this?

any help is much appreciated!!

I'm a pretty experienced seamstress, and I have two questions:

1) When I make a hem on a knit fabric, like a shirt, the hem is always bubbly and ruffly. I try not to stretch it or anything and I use the longest zigzag possible, so it nearly resembles a straigh stitch. Any ideas?

2) Is it worth it to buy Simplicity's belly dancer costume? Is there anything complicated in it that I can't invent on my own, like weird darts in the choli top?

does anyone remember the oldschool sun catchers that you melted in the oven? the ones where you'd drop the little colored plastic bits into the metal frame, put them in the oven and they'd melt and harden into transparent plastic? do you know where i can get that stuff? i've checked out michael's & a couple other places, but i can only find the newschool version where you paint plastic that is already in the metal frame (actually, i think the frames are even plastic on them).

i found an old frame of a robot but most of the transparent plastic parts have broken out and i want to redo it. thanks in advance for any & all comments. ;)

I'm sure that all of you have tried using spray paint and stencils by this point, but I wanted to point out what a fast and easy way they are to make protest tshirts! I made 4 of these in 14 minutes yesterday and it only took that long because the wind was blowing and kept blowing my shirts around.

Shelby Thames is the president of USM, the university in our town. He has gone batshit crazy, firing people left and right and thinking he can get away with anything. The students and faculty organized a huge protest yesterday. I thought it would be nice to have shirts, so I whipped these up.

I've posted this in lots of places so that no one else has to deal with this, I've also put it behind a cut so that you don't have to read it if it doesn't interest you.

I've looked through the FAQ, and if there was anything in it, I missed it.
I have some thick vinyl that is backed with a sort of fuzzy fabric. Its wrinkled from being folded. I'd like to make a purse out of it, but I can't do that before I unwrinkle it.
It looks like the backing is synthetic, maybe polyester.
So how do I get the wrinkles out? I was going to try ironing the back side with a towel inbetween the fabric and the backing, but I thought I'd ask if anyone *knew* what to do before I go melting things.
Suggestions? Expert advice?

Hi everyone,

Here are a couple of pictures of my most recent craft projects. Nothing spectacular -- the first pic is an iron-on transfer I made last Saturday, and the second is the radio in my shop. The rest are of my hammy critters. :-)

I remember someone posting about finding a box of their old brittle and hard sculpey and/or fimo. Well, DONT THROW IT AWAY!  I found some great stuff, it's Sculpey Softener and it works for Fimo as well. Works the same way as mineral oil, but its safer for the clay. It's only 1.99 So far I've found it at Hobby Lobby, but here is a link.

I recently bought a cheap skein of Red Heart yarn and just started knitting. I didn't really know what it was going to be. Turns out that it's a purse. Who knew?

Here's how: I knitted a rectangle, then bound off most of the stitches and kept knitting to make a strap. Then I folded the rectangle & sewed it together and sewed the loose end of the strap to the purse body. Added a button & yarn loop closure and hand-sewed a muslin lining in.

What do you think? )

My birthday is coming up soon, and I was thinking of having my friends over and doing one or two crafts, among other things. I looked through the memories and saw some neat ideas, but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me about some crafts that aren't too hard and are relatively quick, for about 12 girls. We're not hugely girly girly, and some of us are pretty artistic. I was thinking of record bowls and something else...

Does anyone have any information on drying orange peels in the oven? I searched, but could only come up with recipes USING them, not actually making them.

Also, are those cheap rock tumblers ($50 or so) from Toys R Us worth it, or should I save for an "adult" rock tumbler? I wouldn't use it much, and not for anything huge, mostly just beach rocks.

So this isn't text only.. )
