Today I drove almost 100 miles to an upholstry store that was going out of business (the things i'll do for a bargain!). I walked out with various colors of scrap vinyl, with which I intend to make braclets out of. Despite the bright colors I found (canary yellow, nuclear orange, sky blue, etc), plain braclets don't cut it for me, and I would rather spice them up a bit with some paint and whatever else I can find. So - my main questions are:

• Will acrylic paint adhere well to my flexable vinyl? Recommendations?
• Recommended fixatif? If any?
• Lets say I wanted to glue ribbon to it, would I want to use hot glue, rubber cement, epoxy, etc?
• I want my braclets to have snaps, where can I buy some? What else do I need for snaps?
• In the scenario where I need to sew together two layers of said vinyl, will it destroy my brand new sewing machine?
• If you were to buy a flexible vinyl braclet, would you be more inclined to purchase it if it featured a clever phrase / shapes / pattern, or plain?

Thanks in advance <3

Hmmm. I need ideas.

I got this cool pink shirt because I wanted to stencil something on it so that I could wear it to work. at the bottom of the shirt i wrote out this alice cooper quote

"Drinking beer is easy, trashing your hotel room is easy. Being a Christian, now that's tough, that's rebellion."

Now.. what should I put as the main image of the shirt?

I was thinking like "REBEL" or something. or maybe a big cool alice cooper face.

Any ideas? I want it to be cheesy/cool but not TOOO Cheesy, if ya know what I mean.

I didn't get any pictures of me wearing this, because the teeth are held in with superglue, and the glue is still drying. I tried Kinryuu on, and my sinuses started burning from the superglue fumes. I'll get pictures once Kinryuu has been drybrushed with pearl yellow and inca gold.

A not-so-original idea, but hey it turned out okay, I think.
I'm sure everyone has seen this stencil, but I hand-painted this on
an old cut-up shirt, and sewed it on a black hoodie that I messed
up royally with iron-on transfers. After all the work put it, it's worth
it. And this is cross-posted.....but you probably already guessed that.

I've got a question.

I'm going to be doing a bunch of silk screening, mass quantities, and I'm trying to find a good book (or 3) on the subject. I really didn't expect this to be such a mission, but I've only found a few titles, and the reviews on them SUCK. Not to mention, I don't want a book published in 1958.

At any rate, I realize that this is probably a long-shot...but, do any of you know of any good silk-screening books?!?!?

Help!
S.O.S.!!

Oh, and I've gotta say, after looking through this community....WOW....you guys are uber talented....really cool stuff!

has anyone ever covered a roller shade with fabric. i found this online: http://www.decorating4less.com/pages/fabricshade.htm but i wanted to see if anyone had any other tips or tricks they could share with me. i'm making on to match this bathroom http://www.livejournal.com/community/hip_domestics/600251.html but this is my first attempt and i don't want to screw it up. i guess my main fear is that i'll go through all this work and then the shade won't work anymore.

FYI - i bought white pique fabric (which is fairly lightweight) and some aqua colored bias tape to run on the vertical edges on both sides. i also got some dingle ball trim (don't know if that's what it's really called, but that's what i call it) to go on the bottom horizontal part with along the bar you pull on to make the shade go down.

any and all suggestions are appreciated. thanks in advance.

I went to see the Get Up Kids last nite, and the opener, Rocky something or other, had some pretty interesting merch.
There were fleece scarves blanket-stitched around the edges, with bits of felt sewn onto them, sometimes into shapes and sometimes not, with bits of lyrics stitched into some.
If i were into his music and it weren't spring, i might've bought one, they were positively cute.
So i thought i'd share, in case any of you are/have friends in bands and are looking for interesting merch ideas.

Alright, now that you all have answered my first round of questions, you've sparked a bunch more...

-I was at Hobby Lobby just now (had some time between class and work) and I was looking at all things related to painting. They had canvas, 12 x 16" I think, two for $7.99. Is that a reasonable price? If not, what is?

-As for paint, I really can't decide whether I want to try acrylic or oil. Persuade me :o) Acrylic seems easier to clean up afterward, but oil is all 3-D about it (I think, right?). Are there any brand recommendations?

-Should I look into any of those silly books on how to paint or would they all just be like "this is how you paint an apple and this is how you paint a lake" about it?

And I discovered that I am very impatient to start this. I have to finish a scrapbook that's taking up the living room right now though before I begin. Ahh.

Hey All!!
It is I again.
Anyways, I got an email from Jo-Ann's with a coupon for 50% off any one item in the store...it is valid from 3/28-4/10.
I would post the image on here, but I am not sure if we could all get away with using the coupon.
This is an in store coupon.
It says if I want to, I can forward it to friends and family...so if anyone wants the coupon in their email...weeeeee.....reply here with your email address and I will be happy to send it to you.
I'm using mine to purchase the $20 teach yourself to knit kit...and I am going to send my sister-in-law and my mom one...heh heh...and make them buy other stuff I want..heh

Ok, time for a post about actually doing something. :)

I just finished making a big batch of cat toys for my little buggers and their friends...

A sample:

Pretty easy - it's just like making a tiny little pillow! Cut out your fishy, cut out a backing in the same shape (wrong sides out). Sew them together, leaving a little hole for stuffing. Turn it back rightside out, stuff (I used fabric scraps), and don't forget the catnip! Then sew the hole shut, and let the fuzzy ones get stoned!!!

Hey there!

I know there have been others posting here about their adventures in spinning (personally, I spin the fur of one of my cats) and in wool dyeing, so I thought I'd post this link:

http://www.knitting-and.com/spinning/index.html

It even has an article specifically about how to handle spinning cat fur, and about what spinning will do to rainbow-dyed roving.

The rest of the site has patterns for knitting and crochet and some other crafts, along with a bit of embroidery and tatting.

Hi, I'm new. and I hope this posts in here.
I've been trying to post for the last 3 hours and…well, you could say I'm pretty frustrated.
*sigh* Ok, here goes.
[identity profile] girlx512.livejournal.com
Alright, this is my last post about painting, I promise (that is, of course, unless I find more questions to ask :o)...

I haven't even tried it yet and I'm already dreaming of getting a bachelor of fine arts degree and minoring in my stupid current marketing major and being cool and hip and living in a studio apartment...and...and...

*sigh*

(I might add: I'm a freshman. Haha, I've been panicking all year that I don't know what to do with the rest of my life).

Thank you all for your help. Hopefully this weekend I'll pick up some supplies and try it out (and love it, and be great...and...and...).

I decided tonight I would clean up and try to organize my crafting area. I moved a few things from one place to another and then just stopped and stared at the mess, feeling overwhelmed. If you'd like to try to help me figure out what to do, please take a gander. )

While tidying up my craft area tonight, I couldn't resist taking a stroll down memory lane by looking at the scrapbook I made for my first dog (I now have two). It's not that great, but I needed a break from cleaning and I know everyone loves to look at pictures, so, there are 12 images behind the cut. )
