I made some skirts tonight, After figuring out what was wrong with my sewing machine, One is a really dark blue knit fabric.. And the other is a nice lightweight fabric with pretty detailing printed over the baby blue.

Here's my new hat I've been working on lately. It is made up of 5 big points(like mini witch hats) and 3 small ones, 3 flowers, and a sort of crocheted tube that comes out of a part of the hat and goes back into the hat at the other end. the whole thing is crocheted except for the design part (like the dino and hearts) I have a small knitting machine (you turn this handle and the tiny knitted tube comes out the other end). Well I did that in one very long piece a few meters with about 7 different yarns(but the whole hat has much more than that) and then applied it to the project by crocheting it to the project making loopty loops and designs including an L, a dino, some hearts, swirls and waves. I think it is a pretty cool technique.

Hi All-

I am working on my first handmade journal. I finally found the print I want to use for the cover- however, it is on wrapping paper. I'm wondering how I can make this more durable considering wrapping paper rips so easily. I have little craft experience, so I could use any advice. I was thinking about something that could create a harder protective glossy exterior layer to the wrapping paper as well as adhere it to the cardboard covers for maximum durability and wear.

Thanks !

Hallo all. Me again. The one who posted about the DragonMoons set and all that. I just wanted to send another cry out to the lot of you for your marvelous spirit and support in this community. I meant what I said in that post...you have made a big difference, at least to me. I'm glad for the chances I've been given to return the favor! I do hope this isn't deemed inappropriate, but a lot of you did say you wanted me to post when I was finally starting to do things officially. Well, my business site isn't up yet, but thanks to the amazing feedback I got on my work, I decided to run a little test and auction off the aforementioned set on e-bay. I kept scaring myself out of going through with it, but last night I read through all the comments to my posts, and that gave me the oomph and the confidence to finally just take the plunge. ::grins:: I won't list my auction link here...I think that's pushing the boundaries a bit...but if you or someone you know might truly be interested, you can find my semi-frenzied linkage in my own LJ. We'll see if the world at large thinks you're right about me. ;-)

So that this isn't all about that...

My splendiferous husband just got me, for my birthday, a kiln and some silver clay from this website. Has anyone here had the chance to work with this stuff? My head is spinning with the possibilities, but the clay really is too expensive to just experiment with. I was wondering what people had tried doing, tried "implanting", what worked, what didn't, etc. For example...some kinds of glass can be "implanted", some can't...I guess it says somewhere that tempered glass can't. But most glass things you find, beads, for example, don't say what manner of glass they are. They just say that they are glass. So do I have to stick beads in there, one by one, and wait to see if they blow up? And...it lists some stones, largely synthetic, that can be fired in the kiln...but is that truly all? And...does the fired silver clay actually bond to any sterling fittings "implanted" in it, or does the clay have to brace/surround the fitting somehow? Lots of questions, and I can't begin seeking my own answers until I get a chance to buy some bricks to make a fire-proof surface...

Thanks in advance to any with advice! I'm so excited about my new toy! I never expected to really be able to work with silver! :-D

Hey there! So about a month ago I made a square bottomed purse out of some red craft fur, an old simpsons sheet and some silvery handles from an old gift bag. I reinforced the sides with thick craft foam, only because I didn't want to have to buy something for it. I added some huge red buttons and red hair elastics for the closure and poof!

My first coptic bound book. The inside pages are white newsprint, the covers are black photoboard, the stitching was done with pink embroidery floss and the design was painted on with gouache.

Every year my school has 2 weeks before spring break called "Special Programs". During special programs we sign up for various activies. This year a group went to spain, another to costa rica, some people did oil painting and i did bookmaking! A lot of the people in the group weren't exactly the most enthusiastic about bookmaking but why did they choose it then?

Anyway. here are some pictures of some of the books I made and also some that my friend lauren did. These pictures are pretty big, sorry.

a story about making books. with a lot of pictures.. yay.. )
Bookmaking was so exciting. i took a lot of paper home so i can do my own thing at home. anyway, just thought i'd share.

This year for Burning man I’m building a 25’ dome for a shade structure.

I need ideas on what to use to cover it. The dome breaks down into panels about the size of a bed sheet cut diagonally. Old hotel bed sheets are about $1 each. But they rip too easily. I tried treating them with a coat of latex paint but that didn’t work, neither did a solution of 1/1 PVA glue and water.

I’m going to need about 400 yards of fabric or plastic or some type of sheeting material. It needs to be almost free to make the project affordable.

Anyone with any great Ideas?

Thanks

Andy

Well I made a flower from denim jacket leftovers!

The blue stitches shouldn't be there, sorry for that.
Oh and I decorated the edges with glitter nail polish.

Here's a question for you:

Any ideas how to lessen the chemical stench of duct tape? Primarily, the duct tape used to cover a bodice in order to turn it into a far more interesting piece of clothing.

I have hung the bodice up to air, but any ideas on how to perfume/descent the tape would be lovely. I'd hate to scrap the project because the smell makes me want to hurl.
