Okay, I need help. This time for my niece's wedding which is on June 5. My sister-in-law asked me to gather as many petals as I can and to refrigerate them the wednesday before the wedding so that they could be strewn not where the bride will walk but from the parking area near their house up to the wedding site right by their house. I said I would because I first thought it would be hard but only in the sense of getting enough petals. Now I realize that things here in VA will not be blooming much by then and it will also be almost impossible to keep the petals looking good.

So, does anyone know how to keep them looking good until then or does anyone have any alternative suggestions as a guide from the parking area to the wedding site. The only thing I have come up with are stakes with ribbons set in a row to lead guest to the wedding site.

Any other ideas? I just think the petal idea is dumb.

x-posted to antibride, alternative wed, weddingplans, craftgrrl and hip domestics.

So, has anyone ever revamped a refrigerator or redecorated one in any way?

This may be a little off topic, but I have searched everywhere for a shirt like this:

http://www.sizeappeal.com/SizeAppeal/sa_product.asp?appealID=sexappeal&categoryID=Tops&productID=01-0651

That is less expensive...it does not need to be plus-sized..that is just where I found it. Or are there patterns where I could make it easily? (no sewing machine here, moved with what would fit in my car)

Thanks girls...

With my earlier post about my niece's wedding I forgot to mention that the wedding is outside and that the petals will be scattered across lawn. My sister in law does not want fake petals so that is not an option.

I just joined and I thought I'd show you guys my latest craft. A Dum Dum Wrapper Purse! It was relatively easy to make and I'll gladly teach you guys how to make one if you want. The pictures are kind of blurry, but that's because I took them at three in the morning right after I finished.

At a local high school there is a craft fair held every year in the Fall. I just got the contact information for who I need to call to request a table, etc., but I have no idea what to expect. I've never sold at anything before; maybe some of you could help me...

What things should I ask her? How much do tables typically cost (any range would be helpful, I truly have no idea)?

I can't think of any more questions right now, but I'm sure more will pop in my head. I can't call the lady until after 5:00, because that's when she's available, and I don't think I want to call without knowing what to say. Thank you, ladies.

I made my mom some biscotti and now I have to send it to her.

Here's my dilemma - I'm having trouble thinking of what to store it in. I'd like it to be airtight (or close to it) and attractive. Zip-Lock bags and containers like Gladware are two ideas I've already rejected. (Zip-Lock bags are far from attractive and they tend to leave a plasticy taste on foods and Gladware isn't pretty enough for this project.)

I've got two loaves and I'd like to put it all in one container, but am flexible on this.

If you like biscotti, you know someone who does, or you're just curious, my recipe is the best I've had yet. If you'd like, here it is. )

If this question isn't crafty enough, I understand and harbor no ill will towards anyone who deletes it.

What type of glue would be the best to glue shrinky dinks or other things to hair clips like those plain metal bendy clips or bobby pins. super glue and glue gun haven't proved that useful so far....

Hi!

A general question for anyone with experience selling stuff they've purchased wholesale: Is there a "rule of thumb" I can keep in mind when pricing my stuff? I have a method in place for determining how much to charge for the things I've crafted myself, but what about the stuff I've bought wholesale? I really don't know where to begin with pricing. I thought perhaps if I spent $10 on an item, I would resell it for $20, but I'm not sure. Do you ask for double what you paid for an item, or slightly more, or even more than that? Eeep. Any info would be really appreciated.

Thanks

SCORE! I got a Singer 2502C at the thrift store for $15! It needs some cleaning, but I've plugged it in and it seems to work! I have to go get some needles for it, though. But, as always, I have questions. :)

2 questions on the pictures )

This is my first sewing machine ever and I am very excited! But I want to be sure I am using it right. It has been a long long time since Home Ec. :) Thanks in advance for any answers! :)

I am in the process of setting up a DIY/punk arts and crafts show.
It will most likely be at Idle Kids (www.idlekids.com) on August 21st.
If anyone is interested, please let me know. There will be a registration fee, but I have to figure out how much that will be (along with a million other details that I have to figure out!) but I just wanted to see if there was any interest in participating. I will keep you all updated.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a kind of paint that can be used on windows that is temporary. I've seen it on shop windows. When it dries it is translucent and turns kind of rubbery so it can be peeled of later.

Has anyone ever used this and can anyone tell me where to buy it?

I want to make the windows in my dorm spectacular and I'm looking for a window paint that I can use that I'll be able to remove at the end of the year.

Thanks!

Has anyone tried painting over one of the freebee hanging wall-scroll calendars from a Chinese restaurant? I have an old one lying around. The original picture is so-so, and the calendar part is from 2002, so I want to try painting over it with some acrylic paints. Anyone else tried it? Any tips?

Hey! This is my first post, though I've been lurking for a bit.

This is a quilt I made for my history class last December:

Bigger picture and explanation )

I got an A, by the way. (-:

Oh, and an edit...it took me approx. 5 hours total to make from the time I actually started printing/ironing/cutting/sewing/etc., which was good, since I had forgotten about the project until the weekend before it was due. Oops.

Hey, over the summer I am planning on redoing my room. I already have one great piece of furniture which is stained a dark-cherry brown. I have a wooden dresser as well, but it's got a thick layer of glossy paint and another layer under that. is there anyway i could sand off the paint and salvage the wood to stain it the same color as the other piece of furniture? or is this a waste of time and effort?

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for the suggestions/help on my getting a table at a craft fair. If there are any more responses, it'd be appreciated.

I am hoping to sell reversible purses and crocheted hats/scarves (funky ones like the fluffy pigtail hat that's just a rectangle folded in half). The fair will be in November, so it seems like the perfect time to sell winter sets. Do you guys think that is enough things to sell? I'm hoping to make the table more hip/funky/quirky than typical craft fair-ish.

I'll be calling the lady later this week once I do some more research and hopefully it won't be too expensive (I'd sort of like to hope I could make a profit).

Once it's coming closer I'll most likely be posting pictures and details of the stuff and ask for pricing advice--I never know what to ask for things. And I'll post a picture of the table set up once it's closer too and ask for advice.

Thank you all, really, I don't know what I'd do without this place :o)

Please help me. I have been making lovely lotions from oil, water, and emulsifyers. Some of them are still fine, but some, after maybe 2 weeks, are separating. They lose their creaminess and go all liquidy. Why? I blend them and blend them and blend them. I pour while they are still warm but MAN, how else can I get it into the bottles? And even if I blended it until it was totally cool, would that really keep things from separating?

Dear lotion makers, can you recommend something to use as a preservative, or whatever it is I need?

Humbly yours,
A

i work at a vet clinic. we like to put up pictures of our clients (animals) in the reception area. for the past billions of years all photos have been stapled onto dollar store cork board. however, i do not like this. i think it is way too cluttered, haphazard and without method. stuff that i dont need in life. the only 'sophisticated' idea so far is that the staff animals pictures will all be in a giant picture frame. (around 20 pictures as opposed to 200 client pics)
pretty much i dont want to staple pictures a zillion times. i dont want messy. most importantly something organized.
so far the only suggestions were to group each species together in different areas of the wall. or to put the pictures together in the shape of an animal.

ANY suggestions please!?!?

Anyhoo, this month's contest is Altoid Tins!

I KNOW I've seen great ideas from y'all here. Enter! Let's see if craftgrrl can win this contest! A year's subscription to ReadyMade is on the table. ;)
