I'm seriously thinking about painting a needlepoint canvas for my mom as a gift. She's really into needlepoint so I think it'd be great to combine that love and a personalized bit of art. The thing is, I don't know the first thing about needlepoint or specifics of painting a canvas for it. Anyone have any insight or links?

My google searches haven't come up with anything about actually painting the canvas- just sales snippets, mostly. I'm also looking for a link to a search engine someone posted a while back, but I can't find the post in the memories. The search enging sorted results into categories. It was pretty cool, but I didn't book mark it and can't find the post!

Thanks!

I made these for my friend. I'm going for sort of an early Celtish/Pictish thing here.

Please excuse the crummy quality, my camera isn't that great at night and I didn't want to wait until morning to take the pictures. Maybe I'll replace these with better ones once the sun comes up.

Cool things you can't see due to poor quality:

-Brass wire curved into circlets on Barbie's biceps.
-Silver glitter painted on the inside of her skirt. It's a more subdued effect than the flash would have you believe.
-Barbie has purple eyes.
-Ken has facial and body hair. See that piece of fake fur cloth that's tied to his side? I shaved off a small bit of a lighter-colored portion, then spread fabric glue over his face, chest, arms and legs. When the fabric glue was not quite dry and still somewhat sticky, I rolled the fuzz over the glue with my fingertip. It works wonderfully!

And since I've had about half a dozen people seriously offer to buy one off me since I started making them, forgive me for conducting a little impromptu market research.

i'm doing quite a large [ish] cross stitch, erm, thingy.
it says in the book to 'wash it gently' before framing it. but it doesn't say how to wash it or anything and i'm not sure either.
anyone got any ideas? should i wash it? will it make a difference? and how? heh! would it matter if i didn't wash it?

also, this is probably obvious...but i'm guessing i don't put the glass in the frame with the cross stitch?

OK, there's a big event in my town, and they offer booths for crafty people. It's FREE, which is the best part, but all I have to sell are scarves. I've got some really cute scarves, and I'm planning on making school and college colors. I'd also like to sell purses, but I don't think my purses are good enough for that. Here's what I was thinking I'd sell and the price:

Scarves-- $8-$10
Button earrings-- $0.50-$1
Felt Flower pins-- $1

Am I charging too much, or too little? What else can I make? Should I bother with hats?

The fair is September 25-26, so I have enough time to start getting everything ready. I already have about 20 scarves.

Here are some pictures of the birthday cake I made for my sweetie. It's not terribly clever, but I think it's funny. There is also a photo of the eyeglass case I crocheted for mother's day.

Hi. I wanted to make a couple of these for end of the year gifts for teachers at my school (stick some flowers in them). But when I've tried to make them in the past, after sitting on the shelf for awhile, the paint on the inside starts to chip away and frankly it just looks awful. What am I doing wrong? What paint should I be using?

Made a hot skirt and matching headband from 1 dollar a yard argoyle fabric from walmart that I fell in love with.  I have like 2 1/2 yards left so watch for some when [livejournal.com profile] gorgeousmadness  and I start our online store.  Also made a tanktop using bias tape and more 1 dollar a yard fabric from walmart.

I couldn't find this in the memories sections, so hopefully I didn't just miss it: I'm planning on decoupaging some old hard eyeglass cases (like these )), but they have a fabric liner inside. Does anyone have any advise on how to get around that? Do you just cut your paper/fabric at the edge, and if so, do you how would you finish it at the edges? Do you think I should just try to take out the fabric lining and put in a new one?

Does anyone know where to point me to some affordable yet good quality henna? Brands, Suppliers, etc? I don't really need a full kit (containing stencils, etc..) because I can make a piping bag, and mix it all.. I just want the actual henna with instructions on mixing it. I would like to henna my hands for the Solstice (I am adding it into the theme I am working with this year) so I want to be prepared and not buy anything shoddy last minute.

Thanks in advance!

So today I made a halter top and I'm really proud of myself. My first clothes surgery ever, except when I was younger and put fabric paint on everything. So I don't have a digital camera, but imagine this sort of aqua/blue shirt that had my middle school name and logo and stuff on the back. So I cut off the sleeves and the neck and cut a V into the neck. Then I cut half of the back off to make halter straps and then in the rest of the back, I slashed it so it would be form fitting. It's really cute and I'm so proud of myself!

And th eother project I'm doing is this little denim purse/wallet thing. Apparently you're not supposed to use superglue on fabric, but I tried that to decorate it and the superglue was all liquidy. What's wrong with it?

Help!! :) I thought I was doing good on my pillow until the end. I have NO idea how to close it up. I checked the memories, but I didn't quite get it. I'm really new to sewing. :) Can someone help me? I know I'll have to hand sew the closing and I'm fine with that... I just don't know HOW to get it to look like the rest of the pillow.

See my pillow here.

Any advice is greatly and muchly appreciated!!! :)

I currently sew everything by hand. I've been putting together a bunch of different clothing projects, but I feel very discouraged to start on them, knowing how long and tiring the process will be.

I want to buy a machine, but I haven't used once since I was 10 years old (i was sewing blankets and tiny pillows for my barbies on an old singer). I didn't know a lot about sewing machines back then, and so now, jeez, I don't even know what to ask...

All I really need a machine for is sewing seams, simple alterations, simple simple simple. I do not want to[$I cannot afford to$] spend a lot of money right now.

Ideally, I'd like to get a machine under a hundred bucks right now, and then in the future, if I feel so inclined, get something nicer... unless there is a machine that is a bit OVER a hundred that I would be extremely pleased with and thank my lucky stars forever if I went with it.

You get me? You got any suggestions?

I got these magnetic frames for my birthday a few months ago and I only used one so I thought I could use the other two to hold my earrings.

Hi, I love looking and reading about your projects, even if it makes me regret that I personally don't do crafts as much as I'd want to. I thought I could post this pic :
