I've been a spinning fiend on my days sitting in the store! I don't really ahve anything else to do with my time and I'm spinning obsessed anyway so it adds up to a happy day. :)

And I FINALLY have pics of my drop spindle kits!

Sorry for another question. I looked through search engines and I even looked through the link to retrieve the memories (which I, in fact, couldnt retrieve) that another craftgrrl posted. But I wasn't able to find any how-to's on personalizing cigar box purses. Most websites were just selling the ones people had made, or they were selling the hardware and supplies needed to make a cigar purse.

Anyways. I went to Michael's craft store this evening and purchased a blank, empty, cigar-like box, along with the hardware, beads, and wonderful tissue paper. The box itself is pretty rough, its not coated with anything, its just bare. I think it may need to be sanded on some rough spots before anything is done with it. The tissue paper is very cool. One piece is black and white and it has like old film strips or negatives printed on it, the scenes look like they're from the 40's-50's. Along with that came this other neat black and white striped print, almost like a barcode. And solid black, white and red tissue papers. Im sure I could create a really neat box with this stuff.

What I want to do is use the tissue paper all around the box, and perhaps have one large main pic on each flat side on top of the tissue paper. Then I plan on decorating it with a ribbon border or something neat. As for the interior, I want to have a neat, cushy, fabric placed. What would be the best way to apply the tissue paper and other decorations to the box? Decoupage? Should I coat the box with something before I begin anything, or will modge-podge work just as well? Also, what is the best method for creating the interior I am grasping for?

Thanks to everyone who has any tips or ideas :)

What should I use if I just want to draw a design directly onto a t-shirt? I've used Sharpies in the past, but there's gotta be something better than that.

hi all... i've been lurking around here for a while, but up until now have had no craftiness to share ;) but now i've got a question for you all... i've undertaken stripping and refinishing a table/chair set for my kitchen, given to me for free by a friend. the paint that was on there was unfortunate, but that's being remedied with a little paint stripper and a lot of elbow grease. the chairs will be easy, they are simply going to be stripped down to the wood and refinished. the table top threw me for a loop however, because under the paint it isn't wood, but pressboard-type-stuff. yuck. so that can't be finished like the chairs. i've got the idea in my head to do a sort of collage on the top, and while that is still being mulled over/sorted out, i've looked ahead to my main question...

since this is going to be a kitchen table, are there any kinds of finishes (such as mod podge, etc.) that are *not* food safe (or the reverse, are there any that are specifically made for such things)? i've used the stuff before, but never for something like this, so am wondering if i should be more careful about what product/process i choose to use, since the surface will be exposed to food, moisture and probably a little bit of heat. does anyone have any experience with this, or suggestions to make? i think once i get to that point, i'll be heading to the hardware store to see what i can find, but wanted to have an idea of what i'm looking for first. any info would be most welcome.

and i will, of course, be posting before/during/after photos of the project once i'm done :)

[x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] weddingplans]

Darn those memories. Then are they coming back? :( Anyways, I'm trying to find medium-sized silk flowers for a wedding hair clip, specifically purple or green orchids (any kind). I'm willing to pay for high-quality, natural-looking single blooms since everyone will be looking at it (although not the $20+ that some sites ask for for a ready-made clip!). Does anyone have an online silk flower vendor that they have been happy with? (I've already tried Joann's and Michael's with no luck in orchids.)

this is the first time ive posted in here...i need some help!

im trying to make a purse out of one of those free makeup bags you get with perfume, its pretty large actually and bright yellow :/ its kind of plastic-y. well i took pictures but i have to figure out how to get them here...well i started to use a glue stick to paste on pictures (i want a sort of fashion magazine vibe so im putting on models and clothes and stuff like that) and i drilled holes in the top for the straps. but after i glue the pictures on, would it be okay if i mod podge over it? or should i use something else? the only other time i worked with mod podge as a sealer was when i covered a tv try table with newspaper, magazine clippings, tissue paper, etc. and it worked really well...but that was a table. i dont even think im making sense anymore. sorry!

I've been making a bit of soap. Just junky melt n pour, but still it's pretty and fun. etc. I decided it was time to start as my catnip was on the verge of dying and I felt odin shouldnt be the only one to get any enjoyment out of it. So here we are. Catnip soap. Mmmm minty/citrusy smelling bug repellant. Very pleasent. Also made some just for fun bars. To me they look like they are filled with broken bits of stained glass. I must say... cutting through soap has to be one of the most satisfying feelings i've had for a while. It just cuts..nicely. I'm way too into how things cut.

Has anyone here ever used PC Stitch, or similar software, to design cross stitch patterns? Can anyone recommend one product over another, or give pros/cons of different software? I want to do some fairly simple designs, but they're complex enough that graph paper just isn't cutting it...

I trained 6 months and completed and completed a marathon back in the
beginning of May. I have a medal that represents a lot of hard work to me
that I want to do something special with. I have some photos as well from
the day of the event, but they don't have to be displayed with the medal -
though I would like to display a team photo along with it if at all
possible. I know about shadow boxes, but I'm looking for some more unique
ways to display it. Ideas, crafty ones?

two questions.

1. does anyone know where i could get some vintagey [look at least] flower appliques? i would be willing to buy them from anyone here, or at a store.like the one below, or just like a plain flower. maybe a littler large than the ones below.

2. anyone know of any good craft fairs/shows this summer in the bay area? links, dates, and etc would be appreciated.

Hey everone, long time listener, first time caller here.

I've got this water color painting that I want to use as a logo. I wish to transfer it to shirts and bags, but I don't know how and I tried to check the FAQ section but it's not working with my computer so I'm sorry if this is a re-post of something, even though I haven't seen it.

I don't have any high-techie computer printers or papers or anything, but I remember seeing on one of those TV craft "how-to" shows something where these kida dres something and then these little old ladies ironed the drawings onto a quilt. Any ideas? Thanks a bunch!

got the idea to teach myself to embroider this weekend. started out with an old old book with lots of fancy stitches.. and tried those and finally just gave that up, grabbed the nearest picture i could figure to transfer and did all satin stitches. not perfect, it's got crazy legs, but okay for my first try.

bigger. )

the question is, now what do i do with it? can i maybe glue it to some kind of backing (leather, more fabric, etc) so that it can be cut out and used as an appliqué?
[identity profile] pixiesprinkles.livejournal.com
I've recently come to the hard-to-make decision that considering i am actually in the middle of my gcse's maybe i should spend my time doing revision and not crafty stuff. Although i will probably still do sketches cos i just can't help myself. So anyway once i have finished my exams i can then start being craftilisious! Yay! *^o^*
So i'd just like to thank everyone who gave me ideas of how to use my pony beads, posted the other day, or last week sometime. I will eventually try out some suggestions and post them, once i know how to do the 'under the cut' thing, cos i'm still a newbie to this whole thing. So anyway....watch this space!! ^^o

Ok, I want to decorate the interior of my car with jewels or other such plastic things. But I don't know what type of adhesive I should use. I'm trying to take in the heat/cold factor. I suppose, however, I should mostly be concerned about the heat melting the adhesive because that would do the most damage. I have regular cloth interior on the doors and roof.
I'm looking at the FAQs for info, but I want to know about anything first-hand. Any suggestions or hints?

I think the memories are working again, but I need some people to look for me in case my cookies are what's letting me through. So would a couple of you check and tell me if all is right in the world and the memories have come back?

I'm an editor over at BellaOnline...

JewelryMaking to be specific:

...and we just started offering E Books. Except we have NOTHING in the crafts and hobbies category, so my current project is to write a book of tips for creating and working in your own home art studio. I want to have it in a very simple format and chock full of ideas. And it will be very inexpensive, probably about 3 dollars.

I would love if y'all would be willing to share some of your best ones. I will give you proper credit in the ebook of course (along with email/website listing) and of course you will get a free copy of the final book.

Some examples of the kinds of cool tips I am looking for:

1) When my mom was living in tiny military housing, she had no place for her own desk. She realized if she took off the regular closet doors in the hall closet and put on accordian doors she could fit a desk in there that could be closed off easily. When she was using the "room" she just pulled a chair in to the hallway so she could sit at her desk. She was able to close it up easily and keep my then 2 year old brother out of her stuff.

2) I am currently using part of my garage as an art studio. The first thing I did was paint the dingy walls bright white so my work station is very light and clean and my colors don't reflect oddly. The second thing I did was nail an old herb rack to the wall over my table to hold paints and pigments...its the perfect size for all those tiny bottles!

I'm interesting in decopauge (did I spell that right?) I have tons of old books I'm ripping to shreds and I want to decopauge a few things. I want to put some definitions & pictures and such on my desk but if I decopague my desk, won't it be uneven if some pictures overlap and such? How do I make sure everything is smooth so I can write on it?
And also what kind of paste do I need to get to decopauge onto book covers, wood, my desk, etc? Whats some good but cheap supplies?

I need help and memories are down! ::sob sob::

this is going to be my grandma's new dishwasher magnet.

i added the text in photoshop and i'm going to laminate it tomarrow and stick a magnet on the back and then we have to stick a washer on her dishwasher so the magnet can stick to it since it's not magnetic and it's plastic.

just thought i'd share.

have three pictures I drew and I really want to put them on tshirts but I'm not sure what is the best way to go about it. The problem is they're kinda delicate and I would like all the detail to be placed into it. I'm not sure if a transfer would work or should I just paint it on a t-shirt. What would you guys recommend? The pictures are behind the lj-cut but I warn you that they are rather large (so you can see the detail). They are super huge, so proceed with caution.

I hope I didn't miss this is memories.. I've seen quite a few people sew felt onto tshirts/etc, and it's obvious they used a sewing machine. Is it okay if I do that too, or do you need a really powerful machine? My mom's machine is kind of old.

Thanks so much.
