Perusing the patterns at the enourmous Joann's pattern sale a few weeks ago, a few girls from my dorm and I came across Simplicity's "Moulin Rouge" costume patterns and we decided for Halloween (at Florida State University, should be fun!) this year we would all dress up as can-can girls (the same costume is also referred to as "saloon girl," if maybe that gives you a better idea of what we're going for.) My ideas for the costumes so far involve corsets or bustierre's, feather boas, a feather headpiece or a top hat, gloves, fishnets and garters, and maybe gaudy jewelry. The one thing that I'm having a hard time with is the can-can skirt. The skirts I've seen are either full skirts with tons of tulle, or tafetta looking things that are short in the front (gathered by two ribbons) and long in the back. Ideally, I'd like to make the skirt (for just myself or for the other ladies doin the can-can thing) so if any of y'all have any ideas for an easy/cheap way to pull off this look, that'd be great!

I have seen a bunch of posts about marble earrings, and stuff like that, and I was wondering if someone could tell me how to do it, or tell me where to go to get instructions.
Thanks!

I took this pattern:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030608084814/http://www.marloscrochetcorner.com/kitty+bag.html
And made this bag for my friend
Picture behind cut )
Her cat is male, so I did not put the bow on and he has green eyes, hence the green buttons. He is also orange and white striped...so I made the stripes.
I also made the nose and mouth 2 strands instead of one because the pink just wasn't showing up.
Don't mind the bracelet. It is the only good picture I have of the bag. She took it with her camera and my camera sucks. I wanted to make her a matching kitty bracelet. Heh.
Enjoy.

[before]

i forgot to take a picture before i repainted it...it was basically the same shade of dark green, but with more dings and scratches. this plate was part of a "golf set" at goodwill...it also had a cup with gold balls and tees on it. i just bought the plate for $1.

Greetings I know I've started early but I've been making Christmas cards (I shall take photos of my work as soon as my cameras batteries are charged) and I was wondering if anyone knew of a site that had Christmas greetings. i'm getting sick of writting merry christmas, seasons greetings on the cards. All help is greatly apreciated

I went to my grandma's over the weekend for some holiday fun, and I fell in love with a 30 year old twin fitted sheet. I asked her for it and without a question, she gave it to me.

Let it be completely clear, I have never sewn in my life. So I took the sheet home, went fabric shopping, picked up some khaki corderoy, and asked mom how to sew.

This is what happened... )

homecoming is coming up! and my little sister asked me if i would make her dress! this is just the prototype, all pinned together, it might turn out completely different, but this is what i have for now!

what do you think?

I sewed it with my new "retro" sewing machine! Had a little trouble with threading and such, but i think this bag turned out nicely. My sister picked out the fabric and the size... she likes it!

spending all my time with the jukebox ... )

An ugly rainy day with high humidity and I made stickers. Or well I was trying out previous drawings on old stickers (is there nothing you can't do with enough acrylic paint?) before I decided to actually make some (or have some made.) Still, I need a much finer marker or else they're going to keep looking demented !! Which is not heh what I want at all.

Ok, someone here posted something about the best songs to make out to, and there was a track list and everything...If anyone knows what I'm talking about, could you please give me the link to that post? That would be groovy, thanks!!!

P.S. I've got pictures of this really HOT skirt I made coming soon!

My mom thinks she's from Africa or something and has some sort of fetish for tribal masks. I found a really gorgeous one while shopping in the french quarter with my boyfriend, alas it was 600$ and I prefer having food/water/a place to live, so I made it, or a version of it

First I sketched it out. I've been sketching things out a lot lately. The finished mask didn't end up looking anything like that but it was nice to have something to reference.

lots more and a step by step (ooooh baby!) )

Turtle necklace for my sister and the packaging for jewelry sold through my website. )

My website was supposed to be opening today (grrrr) but hurricane Ivan sent all my little worker bees scattering across the south so it's been put off for another week or so.

Thanks :)!

I am very sick of my current purse - I've had it for about 8 years now. And while serviceable, it's not cute by any stretch of the imagination. So, inspired by instructions over at Craftster - I went to the fabric store and whipped this together out of remnants and discount fabric. Inside is blue and brown plaid, and the outside is a very nice dark brown cord.

Was also my first embroidery attempt - please be gentle!

Edited to fix links.

Edit again - Thank you everyone who had kind words! The images do exist, but my hosting company is apparently experiencing problems. I'm sure they'll be up eventually.
