A friend asked me about good quilt shops in Chicago and I drew a blank! The only one I've been to have since closed. Anyone have a favorite one in Chicagoland?

So... I like to make all my Christmas packages look pretty and have themes (but not look like I bought everything at say, Target). Shopping for wrapping materials that suit my tastes is a pain. I've never been into rubber stamping. Does anyone do this for wrapping paper? Say, wrapping things with butcher paper (I'm thinking butcher paper for an old fashioned theme, with raffia tied around it) and then stamping designs? Is there a better type of paper to use? Is there a proper type of ink to use for different type of papers? Everything in the memories dealt with actually making your own stamps. Can anyone point me to some useful resources to get me started? I thought I might want to know a few things before I run to the craft store and just buy whatever's on the shelf. Thanks crafty grrls :)

I looked through the memories and didn't see anything on this, but I don't know, I might have missed it. Does anybody have a tutorial for making a messanger bag?

Greetings!
I am currently doing up a porcelain doll. This is the first time I have done this.
Would like to know what I use to paint the doll - I would like to make her skin much lighter (extremely pale, though not white).
Would I use a colour wash? Her skin colour is somewhat pale, but not pale enough.
Also, what is the best product to paint eyebrows and lips?
Any input would be greatly appreciated :)

Spooky Regards

i looked in the memories but i just couldn't really find what i was looking for.

this christmas i want to make my dad something but here's the thing, i want it to be something me and my 13 year old brother can make together. my parents are divorced and technically he's my half brother so i don't live with him. i want to have a sort of "brother/sister night" and make this thing. but i'm stuck on what to actually make. i made him a picture collage last year so that's out. i'm open to any and all suggestions.

Anyone have any ideas what to do with old concert tickets? I've saved one from almost every show I've gone to, and I would like to make something with them. It can't involve heat, because that ruins them. Thanks everyone!

Hey all, I have a bunch of band and "clever saying" tshirts that my brother and I have outgrown and since i've seen quite a few people modifying such things, I was wondering if anyone would want to buy them. This is not me selling anything(i know thats against the rules), it's just asking if people who do those things would be interested in getting used shirts, or if they usually like to buy new ones to use.

So here's a sewing tip my mama never taught me:
Topstitching a patch pocket means pinning it in place, and sometimes the pins create lumps and bumps and other nuisances. Same with zippers - to make sure you catch everything in a nice straight seam, you have to baste the darn thing in place before you sew it, but those days are over...

Recently I put a zipper in a skirt, and a patch pocket on a kids jumper without using pins or basting - I used a fabric gluestick and GLUED the pocket and zipper where I would have pinned or basted. The glue is water soluble. This means no lumps created by pins, no tedious basting by hand, and all that goo comes out in the first laundering. VOILA. Found it in the quilting supplies. Now I'm gonna feel like a dork if y'all already knew about this little miracle-worker - I've been sewing forever and I had no idea!!

this is a strange question, but Im hoping one of you has some brilliant suggestion.

Can you think of anything I could apply to fruit (a cut pomegranate, seeds, juice and all) that would "seal" it in a way, so it would not rot, and it would potentially harden and be displayable?

Im thinking along the lines of a thick clear glue, varnish or some sort etc.

any ideas at all?

thanks!

I'm fairly sure I haven't posted this yet, but forgive me if I have.

A scarf that I made and then painted on...nothing too fancy.

Edit: It would be wonderful if I could actually spell.

WHY did no one tell me this before!?!?!

Vaseline on the threads of a glue bottle, expoxy or super glue cap keeps it from gluing itself shut! Just spread some around the threads of the bottle where the lid screws on and BLAMMO I don't have to wrench on the bottle to get the lid off. *relief*

I feel really stupid now.
