These hats were inspired by a hat that I got on a vacation.. I was at the train station in Edmonton, and I wanted a souvenir because I had never been on a train before. So I got this crazy green hat with a pom-pom on top. And I wear it to parties because it's my "party hat" and people always remember me because of my awesome hat. I made these hats as christmas presents for friends.. I thought I'd spread the hat love.

so here's a rainbow ceramic holder thingy I made in ceramics class during my senior year in high school ^_^

It's comprised of approximately 85 individually made letters/symbols, 7 figures (Bubbles, the top bear, the bottom bear, the mini bear, the caterpillar, the kitty head, the butterfly), and several long "strings" of clay, to connect them together.

The letters make up: the date (march 2000, I think), my website's title (Hey Ma! Lookadda'bearslookaddabearslookaddabears!, and a few other things I can't remember/am too lazy to check on. haha

It's about 7 inches tall with a 3x6 inch base. It took me... god, like, over a month to make this :faint: because, as mentioned, I made each letter individually (HOORAY FOR PSYCHO DETAIL WORK!!!11), then had to wait for them to dry, then painted them with slip to reinforce them, then had to carrrrefully connect them all together, then painted the entire thing with MORE slip, just to be safe. It really is a damn miracle this thing survived firing (both times!), AND is still completely intact. *KNOCK ON WOOD, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME PSYCHE MYSELF OUT AND BREAK IT SOMEHOW NOW!!!!*

seconds later...

*piece shatters into a 34059045 pieces for no apparent reason*

me: WHYY GOD WHYYYYYYY.

...anyhoo, I forgot to mention about the paint; everything was painted with underglazes, then covered in clear. Yep.

I went back and checked out my last entry.  And I totally forgot to add the picture for the OTHER side of the pigs!  There are two sides to every coin, or in this case, pigs!

i have this issue with my acrylic craft paints (they are the very cheap kind--apple barrel brand, in bottles), where they get these stringy chunks of dried paint inside the bottles, kind of floating around inside the still usable, wet paint. does this happen with all bottled acrylic paint, or would it not happen if i got a higher quality paint?

Ladies!

I have an embarassing confession..... the oven should be set to 300 F for the record bowls...
My oven doesn't have F or C... so I just assume metric. I hope it didn't screw up anyone too much.

There's a good DIY gift guide in CosmoGirl and if you guys want, I could make scans.

Also, it says that the AOL keyword "RED" gets you more DIY gift ideas. Anyone with AOL?

Hi. Long time reader, first time poster. :D I was wondering how long it takes to knit a simple scarf (as in hours) and if it's hard. Thanks :)

Ok.... so I've been making stuff and not posting it...

bookmarks with handmade beads from late last night )

The bodies of the bookmarks are wire that's been tempered and made flat covered in beads. I then took some yarn and wrapped it. You can also add charms to the bottom of the wire if you use a twist and make a coil. The top was hooked over and a loop made. This then had ribbon attached. On the other end of the ribbon, I added a handmade roll-up bead (tutorial for the roll-up here on the DIY network).

coat I made from a few weeks ago )

This coat is black fleece. The wonderful Beatrice (my dress dummy) is modeling it for us. I made it from McCall's M4674, with a few tiny touches of my own.

self-doll kinda 3-D from a few weeks ago )

She's made of vellum and held together with buttons. The pattern I used to cut her out came from Lisa Vollrath's website. Her hair is yarn and sewn on. Her hat is crocheted. I finger-knit her a scarf. She's wearing a silk skirt and a black tapestry corset.

I started learning to cable knit yesterday )

I read the tutorial in the SnB book and then made up my own pattern. I think it's kinda plain, but my hubby likes it and it's going to be a scarf for him, anyhow.

I also did some yarn dying yesterday )

I spun this a while back. I spun some Bernat boa (tweety bird) in with some natural wool using a drop spindle. I then dyed it using this [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl post (yay for the memories section!), but I doubled the amount of kool-aid called for and the colors came out much brighter than last time.

I want to thank the world for their tutorials. Yay!

:)

I'm beginning at crochet, and have loads of yarn left over from a school project that I want to make presents with. Are there any websites/projects for beginners out there?

Thanks!

Should I stencil anything onto the Belt Bag? If I were to stencil anything on it I would Like it to be a saying. For some reason I keep thinking "Popularity is a Joke". Would that be...I dunno...wrong? Well Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if I can use acrylic paint directly on metal without having to worry too much about chipping or sloughing off? I'm going to be painting an AOL tin silver before I decorate it, and I'm wondering if I need to scratch it up or prime it or anything.

TIA!

This was my fourth shot at a purse/bag/whatever. It's from some bandana I bought at walmart the other day, with pink lining.

It's a somewhat modified jordy bag. I originally intended for the top to be much smaller than the bottom, but I guess I didn't cut enough off from the top sides. But oh well, I still like the shape. The interfacing I used wasn't think enough though, so it won't really stay up on it's own.

First )

It's about 13-14 inches across and around 9.5 inches high. Only about an inch wide.

Second )
The next bag it pretty small. I made it from two other tie-dye bandanas I bought from Garden Ridge a couple of year back. This was the second bag under my belt, but I completely forgot about it until last week. I never finished sewing it all together. That's pretty sad considering I started it in September. :P Found it under my bed.

It's 7 inches across, 2.5 inches wide, and 5.5-6 inches high. Really small.

Anyways, thanks for lookin'. ;)

I completed my first beanie the other day [I'll post pix later] and I did it without a pattern. I'd rather make my next one with a pattern. I was wondering if there were any crochet beanie patterns someone has that are easy to follow. Thanks if u do! <3

I made this book out of this paper sample book I found that was full of different coloured thick sheets of paper, and an old map of Ontario for the cover and the endpages. I love those "Bonjour!" stickers. I am putting them on everything.

this is not exactly a craft but it's craft related.....

earlier my boyfriend and i were on our way to wal-mart and we passed by the Hobby Lobby (we didn't go in because it's closed on sundays). I asked him if sometime soon if we could go there ( i had to ask because he hates going anywhere with me that's craft related, i spend hours in these areas) because i had never gone in there since it was built almost a year ago.... he started laughing and joking that there can't possibly be a craft store in the general area that i hadn't been in... and here comes the point of the story... he then said "It's unbelievable because a craft store is like a crack house to you... you damn Craft head!" So now my two new nicknames are Craft Head and Craft whore. heh. Sorry it this is way too offtopic, delete if need be.

Does anybody know the best way to make little tags to sew inside handmade stuff like purses, etc.

other that silk screening them.
would a wood block stamp like this work maybe?
then i could stamp it with silk screen paint on to little fabric squares..does that work?
