Helloooooooooo, crafty ones. I've been lurking for a while, but haven't had the time to post. Finally, I got to take a ton of pics and upload them.
Today, I present my xmas tree.
I was unwrapping xmas trees at work and I kinda broke the top off of a Fraser Fir. I joked that the top should be my xmas tree. And, after hours of tree cutting good times and inhaling lots of piney goodness, I decided that I must have a tree. So, I smuggled my tiny tree out of the Home Depot.
I got my tree home and put it in a vase. Now, how to decorate? I tried ribbons and they were crap. I tried papery snowflakes and they were crap. I knew I needed to use felt...but, what should go on the top? A hat, of course! And the rest of the snowman just followed...

For your viewing pleasure, my xmas tree...

This is frylock from Aqua Teen Hunger force. I just finished his beard out of polymer clay. I'm gonna cook him. All I have left to do is paint his eyeballs, and seal him. Instant crazy fun earrings.

i'm stuck in the middle of exams and have not had time to make very much.

This is nothing spectacular, but it's the only thing I've had time to complete lately since I am busy trying to finish my dad's quilt for Christmas...I picked up my pills last night and I am sick of the ugly blue vinyl case they come in...so I sewed a little cozy for them out of reproduction fabrics...it needed something more, so I embroidered a little bird patch.

Here is the hat I made for my dad...the one I couldn't find the right pattern for..heh
I think it turned out nice.

All I wanted was a basic black hat with a cuff..because that is what I always see him wear.
I made it with Caron Simply soft and a H hook.
I used this pattern:
http://members.aol.com/JSchlossma/wcfrht.html
I did not want a 3 inch cuff, so I made my beginning chain only have 43.
I did the recommended size for the average adult...34 rows...and it came out awesome, as you can see.
I hope my dad likes it.

I am wanting to make a cylindrical lampshade with magazine pictures mod podged or adhered somehow to it. Does anyone have a step by step on actually constructing the shade? Maybe I'll just find a shade like that and mod podge pictures onto it. Ideas, suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hey, I have been lurking here for awhile and I don't think I have ever posted! I do a lot of random little crafty things, and I want to make my grandmother a bracelet for Christmas by making polymer clay beads and making a bracelet. (She is an alumni of the college I attend, and she had a bracelet she bought somewhere made from polymer clay with the school colors, and it broke recently. It looks easy to recreate!).

I am wondering if any of you have any tips, I have never really made jewelry before... should I bake the beads I make on a wire hanger in the oven so they don't get deformed? What should I use for the string- elastic, tied with a knot, or something with a clasp?? Is there a kit I can get at the craft store?

I don't even know how long to make the string or how many beads to make... I am pretty lost, but I think it will be easy once I get going. Thanks for any ideas you may have!

1" buttons

Just curious: I was looking to have some 1" buttons made for my craft business. I don't want to buy a button maker, but rather was looking for suggestions as to any websites anyone here has used.
Suggestions?

I'm doing home-made cookies in a tin for the holidays. They're being shipped to friends and family all over the world, so of course, I need to pack them well. In the average round, short cookie tin you can put in some tissue, place the cookies inside, and then tuck in a slice of bread (the moisture gets absorbed and by the time it gets there the cookies are still spongy-fresh and the bread is dried up and scary-lookin', heh). However, in the interest of $ (they were on sale) and time (I'm making smaller, more perfectly round slice 'n' bake cookies from scratch) I bought tall, cylinder-shaped cookie tins. They would more hold a tube of cookies than a random selection. So, my question is... if I just took a biscuit cutter and put rounds of bread on the top, would the moisture make it down to those cookies at the bottom? Or would the top one be spongy and the bottom ones go stale? If we think that's what would happen, what could I use instead of the bread trick???

Hey, Does Laser toner images/etc transfer if you iron it? If not, is there any non-toxic/dry (non lighter fluid/acetone/matte medium) way to transfer? -- it doens't have to be permanant -- just would like to use a guide -- and I'm transfering to leather, hence the lack of desire for wet options.

Also, doe Aileen's tacky glue react poorly to H20 - ie will it soften/weaken/flake off/ not stick if put in contact with water? or ?

Thanks!

Yes, Hello, me again.

It is christmas time and [livejournal.com profile] dancewithoutme won't let me buy him a present, so I made a him a journal. He loves Over The Rhine, so that's where the lyrics come from. Since I always have you wonderful ladies on my mind I decided to take pics along the way so I could include a tutorial on bookbinding. (I am in no way an authority on the subject, I just made it up as I went along)

Enjoy.

Tutorial, pic intensive.  )

Alright guys, I need to pick your oh-so-creative brains =D

I'm making a no-sew fleece blanket for my boyfriend for Christmas. Pretty easy, right? It's going to be two different shades of green and fabulous. However..
I also want to put a phrase on it somehow. I don't know if I want to stick it on in contrasting thread, or sew on fleece letters, or what. All I know is it has to be soft, visible (but preferably fairly small), and quick/easy.

The phrase:
Go raibh briathra teo agat oíche fhuar
Is gealach lán agat oíche dhorcha
is bóthar le fána an slí go léir go dtí do dhoras.

It's an Irish proverb in its original Gaelic. (In English: May you have warm words on a cold evening, A full moon on a dark night, And the road downhill all the way to your door.)

Any ideas? Thanks so much guys =) I'm at a total loss here. Also, any words of caution before I start making the blanket? It seems pretty straightforward, I'm not expecting many problems.

i'm DESPERATE for money and i'm not having much luck finding a job around here, so i thought i'd start selling my purses that i make out of concert t-shirts. they seem to get a very positive feedback for people, so i figured that people would be willing to buy them. i've spoken to a few people that are interested, but i'm curious as to how much i should ask for them?

i just use band shirts that i don't wear anymore. other than that, i spend about $6 on supplies.

thanks for your help!

just so its not text only )

I just wanted to share a really cute idea with everyone. Around Christmas, the stable I used to ride at had a party for the owners of the boarded horses and the riders of the school horses to make stockings. Yes, for the horses. Then, they would be hung up on a wall facing the door of the barn. This caused the person walking in to automatically see 30 or so intricately decorated stockings.
On Christmas Eve (or morning, if the items were perishable), everyone who made the stockings would put little presents in the stockings: Carrots, apple slices, store bought treats, peppermints, ect. The next morning, the horses would get thier gifts one by one.

This is a bit off-topic (read: very off-topic!) so I'll finish with this: Does anyone have any idea how to make a hippocampus plushie?
Edit: -blush- Yes, I meant the mythological beast.

searched the FAQ, and couldn't find anything like this.

does anyone know of a free downloadable program to make your own cross-stitch patterns (ie what ursasoftware.com carries, but free)??? i'm sure i could probably figure it out on graph paper, but a prog would save me tons of time.
thanks! <3

I just had the brilliant idea to make a camera bag/cover for my best friend's Nikon 35mm manual camera since she doesn't have a strap or a lense cap. I was wondering, would batting be enough (maybe two layers betewen the lining and the outside) for protection? It's basiaclly going to be a square bag with the back panel doubling as a flap that wraps around the top, middle, and half of the underside. I'm also going to stencil The Beatles Help! cover on it, since that's her favourite band. I'm so excited to be making this!

p.s. I somehow managed to finish about 10 kitty hats in eight hours spread over the course of two days!

where can you get glitter to put in soaps?
i looked at michaels, and saw that they only had candle making glitter. is that the same stuff?

and also, when and how would i go about putting glitter and the powdered fragrances (aka camomile all shreded up) into the soaps?

TIA!!
[identity profile] noahfex.livejournal.com
has anyone ever stenciled on fleece using acrylics or fabric paint? has it comes out any good?

i'm asking as i'd like to put a quote on fleece fabric (like the post below mine, a no-sew fleece blanket), but iron-on embroidered letters are expensive, plus i'm not sure on how well the fleece would do being ironed.

so i'm curious if anyone's tried stenciling on fleece with paint and if it came out okay or if it ruined it or if the paint was too stiff. i'd like the quote to be pretty small on the underside of the blanket, just sort of as a little note to my boyfriend.

i've done stenciling on cotton with acrylic paint for t-shirts and that worked out fine... or if you have any suggestions not really involving sewing that'd be great. i have no clue as to how to embroider or stitch letters in.

oh, and to make up for this non-picture post, i will post my latest crafts that i created this weekend, blanket included. they came out neat! :)

thanks in advance.
