I have a problem. I have a ton of seed beads from the past two years. Problem is, I dont know what to do with them. Does anybody, I mean anybody have any ideas for me. Or should I give up on my sanity and sell them for cheap?! ♥

What are some good craft stores in the Chicago area?

they don't even have to be great
It's just that I moved out here a few months ago and no longer have access to my beloved HobbyLobby
anything remotely close to Wicker Park/Bucktown or around the Michigan Ave area is best
or even anywhere easily accessible by public transportation

I need supplies for Christmas presents!

(I hate myself for making this post but I'm desperate...)

thanks

Sorry this is text only. :( I've made plently of things lately that have been inspired by all of you lovely people, but I don't have a digicam to post them. Maybe I will see if I can borrow my floormate's tommorow. :)

Anyways, to the point. For Christmas, I am making a box of love for my boyfriend (details in my personal journal), and I painted it with acrylics, forgetting that I would need to seal it. So my big question is: where in Michael's will I find it when I go (to save time), and what is the going rate on acrylic sealer?

Also, any tips for when I use it?

Despite being uber careful, I still got water-based red acrylic paint on my jeans. :( Is there any way to remove it?

Has anyone made solid lotion bars?
I've made them a few times, tweaking ingredients here and there to try to get the right consistency, but either they're too soft (added some beeswax), too hard (added a touch more of the carrier oil), or they fall apart (my last batch).

I used solid cocoa butter (1 part), shea butter (1 part), sweet almond oil (about 1/8th of the butters), and beeswax pearls (roughly equivilent to the amt of carrier oil) in the last batch - it's awesome and feels good on my skin, but the bar breaks into small squishy bits.

ARGH!

Any tried and true recipes or suggestions? I have awesome fantabulous perfume oils I wanna turn into solid lotions, but this is frustrating to me 'cos they keep being all silly... Right now I have a bunch of lotion balls from where the last batch didn't hold together *grin*

Help, please!

i decided to make white chocolate lollipops for my boyfriend for christmas and this is the first time i've done this and im surprised at how easy it was. i was originally turned off to the idea because i thought you needed a double boiler, but i just microwaved the chocolate =) i bought the heart molds, the sticks, the plastic bags that cover them, and tied them with regular gold and silver curling ribbon. i might glue some irridescent or gold and silver shred in the middle too, if they sell it in michaels. i reccommend this for everyone, it was super fast and simple. one pound bag of chocolate made 15 of these lollipops. =)

I've been busy making things for myslef and my daughter for our holiday vacation. I'll post the pictures of the things for her later when I am done with them.

First is a graffiti cotton dress. I wanted it to look like a 70's dress. I used an existing pattern. I forget the patten number. I used white cotton for the lining. The printed white cotton is just sheer enough to see through on layer of so, it needed another layer of solid white cotton to prevent see through. Plus is gives added warmth which is good. I added a band of black stretch shine vinyl tot he bottom for added pop. I also made the sleeves slit at the bottom for 6" to give it some flare since I like flare and fitted sleeves bother me. I always push them up. There is a 20" long zipper in the back. I altered the bust and made it more flat. It was supposed to gather but, that style didn't work with my body type or the place I would be wearing it so, I just straighten out that seam.

Next is the camo print apron. this was also a premade pattern. I just altered placement of the front bust pocket and placed two on the butt of the apron. I also altered the amount of pleats for pockets in the front from 3 to 4 thinking that would come in more handy when working on stuff. I also made pot holder gloves to match. yesterday i made a number of xmas ornaments for a pal of mine. picture here )

it was my first experience hand-sewing with felt, and i am no expert, but it was fun!

today, i'm looking around for some actual patterns for ornaments instead of cutting the felt free-form, and thought i'd turn to y'all for advice.

got patterns?

=)

I need some creative ideas!

My aunt is dying, and I need to give her a christmas present. apparently everyone else is giving her and her wife couple gifts. which is what I was going to do (and still am)
but I'd like to think of something to give her that is *for her* and not covertly for my other aunt.

which means it needs to be something that is either a) usable and will be used up by the time she dies b) can be gotten rid of or used by someone else after she dies c) not too disgustingly sentimental so when its sitting around after she is dead it dosent make everyone all sad.

and I figured this would be a good place to ask since whatever it is, I will probably end up making it (but feel free to post other good ideas if you have them. I am making as many presents as I can, but I want the *right* present for people over the cheap or crafty one)

thanks for your help

I really want to make a broomstick skirt, but I just can't seem to find a good tutorial or pattern. I was thinking maybe something with about 4 panels, and knee length? If anybody knows a good tutorial with pictures, or something easy to understand, that would be wonderful!

EDIT - When I say a broomstick skirt, I mean something with different panels. Like this...

Sorry this is text only.

I have these centerpieces for my brothers Bar Mitzvah. Theyre basketball ball themed and they come out on pieces of plastic so they resemble a fountain [if thats makes any sence, I dont have a camera]. Anyway, in between the little basketball nets, there are little stars. Anyway, the stars are all creased from the packaging, and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make them straight and crease free. Thanks and I hope my illustrations/explinations make sence.

any ideas for christmas presents to make with an old photograph of my mother, her sisters, and her mother? a couple years ago, my sister and i made placemats out of vintage record covers and my mom loved those. so she prefers pretty-yet-utilitarian presents. i was thinking... pillows?? i have no idea how i would do that, though. tutorials anyone? anyway, ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks girls (and boys)!

oh, and here's the photo. please don't use it for yourself... it's my family and that would be creepy. haha <3

howdy doody- i require some help in the hand sewing department.

i would like to do these two things:
1- sew a patch onto my shirt (you know, like boy scout style or something)
2- sew squares of fabric onto a calico bear to create a patchwork bear of sorts for my sister's christmas gift.

i really am unsure as to where to begin to find the information i require... could someone please tell me what materials i need, what i need to know, the level of difficulty, etc? step by step instructions as to how i can do these things and advice would be much appreciated.

and since you're all so freakishly obsessed and overly apologetic when you post something without an image, here is the bear i plan to 'decorate' for my sister: )

spanx!

Totally easy and you can personalize to your heart’s content. Make it huge, make it tiny, make it shiny and girly or ruddy and natural.

So you want to make a dreamcatcher? (Lots of photos) )

I dunno if you remember, but I did that 'robot purse' awhile ago. Well I finished another one I had started and it's basically the same just a little bigger and it has no zipper. I used velcro instead. I'm not as happy with this one but I thought I'd share anyway.

It reminds me of a lunchbox )

That is all, I hope everyone is doing well and that you're all ready for the holidays. :)
