because i know everyone's gonna wanna share (me included), why don't we just do one post of "this is what crafty thing i got for christmas!", instead of multiple posts that will clutter up the community and irritate everyone who doesn't celebrate christmas?

crafty christmas gifts!

ps. cora, am i being pushy again? if it's innapropriate, just delete it. i'll still love you.

hat )

the first thing I've knit for myself since my first project of a scratchy red heart scarf over a year ago. i finished it tonight. it took me maybe 3 or 4 hours altogether. i suck at seaming, so the mixed colors work best for me. it's double strand worsted on 10's, one purple and one heather. (the pattern calls for 10.5's and a chunky yarn)

now i can sleep.

tired, so very tired.

I really want to glue rhinestones to my new cell phone to make it less terribly boring. I saw on craftster.org someone who did this, using that hardcore glue, but here's my question/dilemmna:

I'm worried that I'll buy too big/too small and that there will be funny gaps around the outside of the phone. Is there any sort of adhesive I could use to 'test' where I'd put them, before permanently disfiguring my glorious phone?

i made a dino hoodie, and now it's time for it to be washed because i fell in some dirt. how do i wash it? i didnt pre-wash it, and i used heat n' bond to fuse the triangles together. will anything happen to the felt? i just used that cheap 10 cent per square felt. thank you!

Along with some edibles and stuff I bought for the boyfriend, I also made him a light blue, fleece monster blanket. My sewing is terrible when it comes to large-scaled projects, but he and his sister said that its imperfections make it all the more cuter, lol. So behind the cut, you'll see Nick showing off his new monster blanket. I made it light blue to match his pillow cases and bed sheets, and it consists of two pieces of fleece sewed together, for extra softness, thickness, and warmth. Also, there's a little hole between his legs so the monster can pee so Nick can put another blanket inside it to make it even warmer, if he wants to.

i have some questions about dyeing stuff...

last week i tried to dye my hot pink sheets, dark brown. i used an entire bottle of rit dye, added the salt, followed the instructions to a T. they came out looking like this dirty darkish purple color, they didnt dye evenly, and there are darker spots on them. i was so disappointed. should i just re-dye them with the same dark brown rit dye, or do something else? also, when i was watching the washing machine slosh the sheets around in the brown water, some of it splashed up onto my BRAND NEW threadless t-shirt. it looks like grape juice. how can i fix this?

So, Ive finally begun knitting my checkered scarf (for those of you who have seen my multiple posts asking questions on how to do it and such). Im working it on circular needles and I think im doing it fair isle style, cuz im not doing intarsia. I dont carry the colors together through the whole thing, i just twist them together when i change colors. And I was wondering if theres a way to connect the two colors together vertically? because right now if you pull on the checkers where they meet, you can see the thread behind them and that theyre not connected.

I only have about six inches done so far so I figured Id ask now instead of when I have a lot more done. The yarn im using is kinda stretchy. If the non-connected-ness is ok, then I dont need help but if its gonna be a problem later on Id appreciate some tips

This post really has no significance at all.
But I have a question.

Would you call this sewing machine "vintage"?
I got it for Christmas (YAY!), but I can't find a year on it.
Not important, just curious :)

This was, by far, the best Christmas gift I've ever gotten! :D

Hello all!
I am a newbie here and wanted to do a quick introduction. I am 25, married and live in Georgia. I received two great gifts for Christmas. This year my husband took the craft route. I now have a sewing machine and a button maker.
My mother hand made my wedding dress (married in 2003) and I have always admired her work. I went today to pick up some practice fabric. If there are any tips from you guys out there, I am open ears. My mother told me that the best things to do it just practice.

Yeah, this is a big deal. :) I haven't been able to knit or crochet in years because of an old injury that just got worse and worse until I could hardly use my right arm. I started getting treatment for my back recently and I just finished a hat today. Yay! Now, I crocheted this with my left hand, but before I couldn't even use my right to hold the yarn.

I used this pattern: http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/cpatt03.htm Super-easy and like usual I didn't follow it exactly. Thanks so much to whoever posted it first. :) I wasn't making it for anyone, I was just DYING to make SOMETHING! It's made of scrap Lopi that I got from my mom when she finished a huge blanket so I wouldn't be wasting anything if I sucked at left-hand crochet. When I finished it, my partner said, "Can I have it?" and gave me big-eyes so I couldn't say no. I put a tassle on it because apparently every hat needs one. :)

There's a crocheted sweater pattern for beginners there and also a chart that gives the measurements for a Paton's chunky zip-up raglan sweater (knit) that could easily be done in single crochet and a hood added. The original collar is a shawl collar, the sweater does up with a zipper.

Make sure to click on the thumbnail and then on the picture again to get the full-sized file!

Okay... so I decided I was going to make this furry scarf.

I got the Lion Brand fun fur and I started my chain and then did double stitch. My problem is that it gets all knotted. Has anyone tried using this type of material for a scarf and how did you do it?

Hello! I've checked the FAQ but haven't been able to find an answer for my problem.

I have hideously long ape-like arms and anything long-sleeved is usually a good two or three inches too short in the arm department. So I've decided that making myself a few hoodies and jumpers and so on is a good idea. The problem is some of the patterns I've found are for knitters, and I just can't get my head around knitting. I can however crochet (poorly, but I can do it!) and I was wondering if and how you could convert knitting patterns in to crochet ones.

Thanks for your help!
