So I have these two old TVs - a Vivitar and a Zenith - that I hollowed out a couple years ago to use as bookcases.

They're still functioning quite well as bookcases, but I want to update them somewhat to my decor.

So, does anyone know what that fake wood trim on old TVs is made of? Plastic? Metal?

And in either case, can anyone recommend paint?

Ok, so i've been doing a search for different candle projects and i came across something called beaded candles. i became highly interested in learning how to make them, but i've never heard of the supplies the instructions call for. for example: Halcraft USA Inc. Micro Mosaics and Therm O Web PeelnStickā„¢ Double Sided Adhesive. where could i buy these items for a decent price and what are they?

i also have a question about sewing. i only have a small straight-stitch sewing machine that i got for christmas from my gramma. she bought it on the home shopping network, but i'm lost to what kind of beginner projects (because obviously i'm a beginner, lol) i can do with this machine because it doesn't do all the fancy stuff like zig-zag, which is very upsetting.

thanks in advance!

How do you make stamps? I want to buy some stamps I found at the store but Im pretty much broke to be spending 6 bucks on a 1 inch stamp. I'm an artist so I figured I could make one? I've read that people use hard erasers, tracing paper and exacto knives. I'm a little confused tho. A lot of tutorials say to cut the image at an angle. I dont understand which angle - into (under) the design, or away from.

How efficient is this method? What kind of foam should I buy to put under the eraser so I can put it onto a block of wood?

Can someone help!?

Thanks for saving me in advance! :D

*edit* I'm sorry, I must have not searched the memory section good enough or it may have been a different community, but I'm so used to this one I might have thought it was from this one. I still don't have answers to the questions in bold though.

It's that time of year again - time to write thank you notes for the holiday goodies I got.  I couldn't see sending store-bought cards this year, cause all my holiday cards were handmade too.  Anyway, I'll stop talking and show you what they look like already:

No, Thank YOU! )

I finally am able to post pics!!!!!! woo hoo!!!! Here are my 3 first crafts: two scarves and a cell phone cozy. I'm still figuring out my crappy cam, so apologies for the blurry pics. I'm also still learning how to knit, so forgive any crappiness in my crafts.

Clicky for pics! )

I'm finally quilting! Yay! My first quilt ever is a sun and moon theme and I'm donating it to http://www.projectlinus.org/ (Project Linus) I'm so excited! It has yellows, purples and blues in it. ^_^ And I also learned how much I really do hate rotary cutting. Anyway, I'm a project freak and I'm already dreaming up the quilt I want to make for my boyfriend (our third year anniversary was a couple weeks ago...) So does anyone know a store that would carry fabric with any scenes or characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas? If not, I'm going to use iron transfers on white fabric then applique them to some red, black and spider web fabrics. Brownie points if anyone could lead me to just a simple outline or a stencil of a teddy bear. (Which is his nick name ^_^) Thanks in advance!

I promise photos of the Linus quilt! But it needs a title... Maybe "Look at the stars/ Look how they shine for you" or something

okay, im new at stenciling but i have a question: ive read about a lot of people using acrylic paint to stencil, but ive found that acrylic paint gets hard, cracks, and flakes off after time...

ive also read about some people using a half and half mixture of acrylic paint and a textile medium - when you use this, does it crack and flake off like acrylic paint does?

Does anyone here know how to massively shrink a t-shirt?
[identity profile] exitwounds.livejournal.com
this might be a silly question but i couldn't think who'd know better:

does anyone know about xerox transferring? i was thinking about playing with transferring some of my drawings onto fabric, but it occurs to me i don't know how. i don't want to buy t-shirt transfer paper and print them out, but i know there are some ways to transfer xerox copies onto surfaces. usually though i hear how to do it to paper, so i'm wondering if anyone has any tried and true ways to xerox-transfer onto cloth? probably nothing hard, just cotton muslin or something.

thanks for the help!

did two stencils today. fairly happy with both except the shrimp one has adhesive residue and the marilyn one has extra spray on the shoulder of the shirt. that's what i get for spraying when i was in a bad mood. i got careless. but whatevs. i'll redo 'em. planned on doing more but something came up so i'll have to do them tomorrow. sorry if they're not "political" or "street" enough for some of you. that was for some people over at stencil_art, not here. :X

i know this was in the memories but i can't find it anymore and i've looked through it 5 times. does anyone have instructions on the army men bowl? the only thing i found on craftster was something about possible ways that no one had tried.

Hi guys!
I was wondering if there's anyone here who's into decos, friendship books and such? Because I really need someone to swap with as I have too few penpals! So if anyone's interested in someone to swap with you can reply to this or send me an email: miranda_ail@comhem.se

Thanks, Linda

So I was working on a project using very expensive (by my standards, at least) fake fur, and it was going great until the very end when I realized it just didn't look right. From that moment, everything I tried to do to "fix" it just made it worse.

Long, sad story short, I now have 1.5 yards of fake fur cut up into varying-sized bits. What do I do with them so as to salvage my somewhat expensive purchase?

And so this isn't text-only, here's another book I whipped up today.

It's odd, but it pertains to craftyness.

I want to make a cozy/pouch for my cell phone, and then I thought, hey, why not make it just a tiny bit bigger with a little pocket for my id & card for when I just want to run out?

Then I thought, wait a minute...there's a battery/energy source on the phone, and I'm not sure if that would generate enough force to wipe out the magnetic strip on the card. (I think it's magnetic. Or if you get it around magnets it will erase it or something. One of those things I learned once then promptly forgot.)

Does anyone know if that's a possibility? If I put my phone on my credit card, will it erase it? Or am I just smoking crack? Should I just go aheadn and make it, being sure to put an extra layer of something in there to prevent that from happening?

Can anybody (physics major, Visa representative, phone technician, hobo, whatever...) give me any insight?
