I want to finish off the edges of a pencil case I'm making with thick cross-stitching thread. This iPod case uses the stitch I'd like to use. I've spent the last hour and a half searching LJ and the internet for instructions, but since I have no clue what this type of stitch is called, my search has been in vain. Can someone please tell me the name of this stitch and how to do it (or a link to a tutorial on it)?

Thank you SO much in advance!

I'm sorry if this has been asked before--I browsed through the memories, and tried searching, and came up with nothing.

I want to make an iPod cozy for my boyfriend who has a 4th generation iPod. I have a 3rd generation iPod, so I can't use mine to make a pattern. Can anyone point me in the direction of a pattern that has windows for the screen and click wheel? Or, conversely, could someone with a 4th generation iPod tell me the measurements of the screen and click wheel, and their positions relative to the sides (since I believe the 3rd and 4th iPods are the same size)?

Thanks! :^)

does anyone have a tutorial on how to sew sleep masks?
[identity profile] anesthetics.livejournal.com
Hello ladies and gents. I DIRELY need to learn to sew. It's a mission from God. I have a sewing machine and everything! Thing is, I have not the slightest clue how to sew, no idea, not even a little. But I really would like to learn.

My question is simple: Do you know of any good books that break down sewing into simple layman's term and make it really easy. My craftiness factor parallels that of a Down syndrome monkey. I actually think that's unfair to a Down syndrome monkey, but you get what I'm saying. I need a very simple book.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out! I need all I can get!

The Problem:
- most cell phone cozies are ugly
- the cute ones are too slim for my phone
- none fit the width of my belt

The Solution:

Alright, all of you crafty wimmins -- I need your suggestions!

In April, I'm helping to host a bridal shower for a good friend. We're doing something of a combined bridal shower/bachelorette party up in Victoria, B.C.

I'm wanting to make my portion of it the lingerie party. Raunchy will definitely be accepted, if not expected. :)

Here's the thing, though -- we'll be staying at the Empress Hotel, which is a swanky hotel right on the waterfront. So I want the invitations, etc, to be elegant and respectable.

I'd also like to make some sort of favour or something that the girls can take home as a souvenir sort of thing.

The first thought was doilies of some sort; possible with a ribbon threaded through to create a sort of bag, to hold... whatever inside.

Her colors are purple and green, running the gamut from deep purple to periwinkle, etc; she's got a big mix of colors.

Any suggestions?

I recently bought a pack of canvas bags from Wal-Mart for really cheap, and I decided to turn one of them into a tribute to mine and my boyfriend's first date.

I had to use construction paper because I ran out of the manilla folders that I was using, so the stencil bled, but I like the way it made it look.

And it burned.. )

I wanted to share this very exciting news about my fruitsy clothing line!

Yay! Dollparts and Candy got it's first review in BeautyNewsNYC.com, written by PJ Gach(writer for rollingstone and newyork post)! The writer had so many wonderful things to say, and I am honored and so excited! Thank you PJ, for writing about DollpartsandCandy and for the previous article about anklebitersnyc, you rock!

There's just one booboo, but I know they will correct it(and it was on the technical end and not the writer's fault), just so you guys won't get confused, I am not Chiara Civello and born in Rome(I wish)! But that is me wearing my pink striped top. So many pics in the article I can't believe it!

Hi all! I was wondering if any knitters / crocheters knew of any sweet yarn shops in NYC? I'm taking the train there next weekend with a few friends and would like to hit up any yarn stores if possible, but I don't know of any at the moment. Thanks for any help :)

On Sunday, i started furiously knitting this scarf for my friend's birthday. I managed to finish it by Tuesday morning, which was miraculous because i was a knitting machine on monday, knitting at least half of the scarf in one sitting.

i decided not to do any patterns, so i just used the simple knit stitch. I used size 10 needles to make it nice and chunky so she would be kept warm for the rest of the winter.

The little heart detail is stenciled onto a piece of felt, which i made into a pin just in case she didn't like it.

Hiii. It's January 7th and I still haven't found the calendar I want to commit to for alll of 2005. I'm temporarily using the freebie that came in the junk mail from a neighbourhood realtor but, it really does suck. Then I saw this:

Click the pic to see what I mean... Pottery Barn has a good idea that could be adapted to make one hella, personalized, practical, (and with a computer and printer) perpetual calendar, see? I was thinking of rotating it 90 degrees so that it hangs in the same orientation as your average calendar. But $129.00 and $12.00 paper refills? Somebody please brainstorm on how one might mount a 1/2" letter-size three-ring binder so that it is stable on a wall -- I don't think there are standard-size picture frames that could be used for this purpose (?)

Does anyone have any tutorials/instructions/tips on how to make this Victorian Styled Skirt that is featured on the gallery serpentine website?
They are $350, I don't have that sort of money just lying around and I was hoping to have this skirt for my ball this year :(

Here are 2 pictures of the skirt I am referring to:

hey everyone! i am a new member and i have this like eggshell white POlo shirt that is WAY TOO BIG! i want to make it fit becasue well i, i want to wear it i have been looking around and i cant find any ideas. so all i need is an idea to make it like tighter. . .help me?
[identity profile] so-symbolic.livejournal.com
alright, i need your ideas.

i made male and female stencils (ya know, like the little stick figure things that they have on bathroom signs) and i'm making the front of a shirt that has 3 couples on it, one with two women, one with two men, and one with a man and a woman. now, i need a clever message for the back. i was thinking "i believe in a thing called love", like a shirt i made for when fred phelps came to my town. or "...with liberty and justice for all".

if any of you have any ideas, pleaseeeee let me know! <3

i'm not sure if this has been posted previously, but after looking through some stuff on craftster.org and through the memories i didn't find much. maybe i didn't read into it enough, but if you can, help would be majorly appreciated.

so i found some pretty nasty pants that fit well but i actually had multiple pairs of, so i decided that i wanted a hole in the knee so they differed from the other same pairs of them that i have. i hope that made sense. so i cut a little slit, yeah looked pretty cheesy, i ripped it and whatnot and when i sat down or put my knee into that place, you know, it looked fab, but when i stood up to walk around or whatever you know, it just looked lame. is there any way i can make the hole look more...natural? maybe i'll just have to deal, but if you have any idea, please, share the wealth.

warning-photos are on the larger side, but they should load up fine unless my photobucket runs out of bandwidth.

photos so you might possibly understand what i mean. )

thanks in advance!

I had the most wonderful, delicious-smelling candle. Alas, it has finally burned down to the metal bit at the bottom of the wick, but there's still a lot of delicious-smelling wax left in it.

Do you think it would work if I were to cut out/up the wax, and sew it into little yummy scented stink bombs?
[identity profile] comearoundruby.livejournal.com

ruby-claire makes such a better model than some of the humans ive encountered.

its the usual g hook and red-heart worsted single crochet etc. i really think the eyes should be moved just a teensy bit forward but i am entirely too lazy to be bothered. so its a slightly mutantly freakish frog - big amphibious deal.

DON'T use this

for stencils, or anything that you will ever want to come off. it left a gross hard residue on my shirt! grrr. and on top of that, after a half hour of scrubbing my hands, they're still annoyingly sticky.

they had no repositionable adhesive spray in ac moore today so i bought that which turned out to be a HUGE mistake. tomorrow i'll have to try rag shop and joanns for the good stuff because i am definitely not using that again.

(sorry, text only post - but i need help)

okay, so this screen printing thing - ive never done it before and want to start but i had no clue about it - i checked out and read all the memories about it but im still a little bit confused:

i understand you have to get some sort of frame or wooden backing type thing, and you stretch the screen over that. when you actually print it you put it on the fabric and put the ink over the screen and use a squeegee type thing to mush it through the holes.

heres where i get stuck: when youre putting the ink on the screen, how does that fit in with a stencil? like...how do you use a stencil for that part? it seems like to me if you put the stencil over it and just put the ink through the open part of it, it would bleed and not work very well...

i read about putting something on the actual screen where you dont want the ink, but wouldnt that defeat the purpose of the stencil?

i dont have very much money to go out and buy things, and i'll be using a stitching wooden hoop and a pair of old pantyhose. could somebody explain how you use a stencil and what youre supposed to put on the screen so the ink doesnt go through?

and actually, now that im thinking about it - whats the difference in screen printing and just plain stenciling? do you use different inks or techniques?

thanks!

I'm not much of a knitter, but my roommate is. She made me these for my birthday a few weeks ago, and I just wanted to share them with all of you.

I finished my roommate's belated Christmas present today. (We agreed not to exchange gifts until after the break, so as to relieve stress a bit) It came out so well, I want to keep it for myself. Luckily for her, I put her name on the cover, so it would look pretty suspicious if I kept it.

If your name is Kitty T. Tong, do not click here on pain of death! )

Now I have a question: I was recently blessed with about a bazillion photos from a photographer friend of mine. I'm going to hang a lot of them up, but there are just so many that I can't possibly hang them all. What else can I do with them? Each photo is regular paper size (8.5x11), not photo-size, so they're a little on the large side. However, I'm not averse to cutting them up. Suggestions?

SO! Does anyone in the Vaccaville/San Francisco area have any good suggestions?? I LOVE thrift shopping, vintage clothes, jewelery making, sewing and spinning! I would appreciate anything you have to offer!!!

THANK YOU in advance!
