another stupid question
Mar. 4th, 2005 01:13 pmi have two nieces in my husband's family that i want to spoil. they are in their early to mid teens, and i am 35. a young acting, bar brawling, punk show attending 35 . . . but i have no idea what teens wear, or the jewelry they like. the only clue i get is watching the kids on the soaps which is only so helpful.
so, can any of you in the younger set help me out with a couple of links to sites where i can find the stuff that is popular? please? google searches on this sort of thing only give me paid and superfluous links that don't really tell me anything.
thank you thank you thank you thank you
Swatch Question
Mar. 4th, 2005 01:15 pmI have a question from those who ordered from Smith & Noble. I think there was an entry about this before, but I'm not sure how long ago it was. Anyway, how did you girls get off the tough stickers on the back? sometimes, they came off fine, but other times, they just would not budge. Any methods would be greatly appreciated!!
Polymer clay preference
Mar. 4th, 2005 01:18 pmI've never used polymer before and was a bit intrigued when I saw all the options at the craft store.
I'd be using it for jewellery applications and possibly doll accessories for my daughters. I'm not very artisitic though, so I could be just talking out of my butt right now.

I am so very proud. This is the first quilt I have made using real quilting techniques rather than just sort of winging it and making lots of mistakes and dealing with them poorly. It is far from perfect, and there are a few corners that don't meet up perfectly, but on the whole, I am VERY pleased with it. This is the first project I've ever done with a hankering for it to look traditional. I picked out fabrics that I thought you might find at your grandma's house, and I'm pleased with the pattern I created with them. Huzzah!

DEATHMATCH!!!!
WOOT!
p.s. anything where it's Deathmatch is automatically hilarious to me. so maybe I'm getting too excited. What do you guys think?

Mar. 4th, 2005 02:51 pmI have been working on some orders for a while now and this is finally one down.
A friend wanted me to make her a collar similar to the one from a retail store. I would post the link to the store but my bookmarks were deleted the other day so I don't have it. Some of you will know what I am talking about anyway.
So here it is.

I am making her a blue one too but the size of the thread and the needle are really slowing me up.
"G" hook and some thin cotton thread.

Mar. 4th, 2005 03:38 pmi've sent out an email to several of you that were interested in sending out cards and what not with my contact info (& i'm working on sending out the rest!), so that i can put them all together in a scrapbook to give to ray. i'm still looking up different places that might be a possibility where the kitty could go, but no real solid leads just yet. i went and took a look at the kitty today, and he seems to be doing better than he was, breathing just a wee bit easier, but the only worries they have right now is his heart rate has slowed down a little bit from yesterday, which is the reverse of what should be happening. it's not too huge a problem right now, but they're doing bloodwork to see if there's anything external causing it. apparently he's gotten up a few times over the course of today and yesterday, and even peed once in his litter box! so that's definitely good news. anyway, i went and visited with him today, and took a picture of him after we put him back into the oxygen tank. so for those of you interested, kitten's picture is behind the cut.

Mar. 4th, 2005 05:59 pmI have been collection postcards for some time now. I buy them wherever we go and people get them for me all the time.
Now that I am faced with my huge mass of them I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas about what to do with them?
I was thinking of maybe making a book out of them or being boring and scrapbooking them.
Any ideas?
Most of them are blank on the back but some do have writing.
Thanks in advance.
Help please!
Mar. 4th, 2005 06:03 pmI bought this RED VELVET 1950's-esque suit from ye olde thrift store today. (I say 1950's-esque because the skirt hits at about mid-calf. The whole thing looks like the Amish do Moulin Rouge.)
I bought the outfit because I really like the blazer. In the crafty spirit, I'd really like to do something with the skirt.( And then came the problem. )

Mar. 4th, 2005 07:02 pmI'd like to dye some, but I have no idea with what or how?
Any suggestions?
Or what else can I use some of this stuff for?
Also, I got tons of jeans awhile back, but no one knows my size and while I love that they think I fit into smaller jeans, I just don't. Any ways to make jeans bigger without the use of a sewing machine? I know if I just put them on and FORCE them to fit that they'll eventually wear down and accept the fact that I've got a big ass and so on...but I'd rather not go through all that....

Mar. 4th, 2005 08:47 pmSo I finished the face of the 2nd quilt, but haven't been feeling well enough to do the backing/batting/finishing. That and lack of time! Between work, and class, and volunteering at the Jr. High in my town, I have barely time for my fiance! But I have a question!
I want to learn how to knit/crochet (mostly crochet). Desperately! I see all the beautiful yarns at work, and would die to make something. Also, I found a great pattern book for crocheting Winnie the Pooh characters (tigger, pooh, eeyore and piglet) , not this exact one, but the one for regular, not thread crochet (don't know which would be easier/better) I think these would make grand christmas gifts for the children-to-be. (I would say in addition to their baskets, but I'm realistic). So any advice on how to get started crocheting? I've seen some of the basic tutorials, and decided I can definately do it, if I know how to go about doing all the stitches and what not. I work at Joann Fabric, so everything is available. Maybe a good starter book or something?
Thanks, and sorry for the text only! My mother had the audacity to take her digital camera with her to florida! How dare she? Does she not know I must take pictures of my crafts? They will be posted asap when the camera returns home!

My friends and I have made a club at school and we are starting ,one of many, fundraisers to raise money for relief efforts and I want to do something crafty. For the tsunami relief effort one group at school made little blue ribbons for $1 each and they made around 1,000 dollars. We could easily do something like that but does anyone have ideas for something easy to make that is cheap and easily recognizable like ribbons are?
