without help from anyone else! i've already mastered the pj pants, but i've finally moved onto something new :) i just spent the last 3 hrs working on a new purse for me to gamble with in vegas this weekend, and i'm almost done. i know it sounds like alot of time, but i didn't have a pattern so i eyeballed everything, using my old dickies mini messenger bag as a model. now all i need to do is attatch the straps and the zipper. this will be my first time with a zipper, so i hope all ends well. i'm just going to wing it cause the instructions that came with them confuse me... if there are any suggestions or tips, i'd love to hear them.
anyways, as soon as i'm able to steal my dad's camera, i'll take a picture and post it!
ps. is it too nerdy to be this excited about a bag?!

Hi. I have this plan to create a quilt using some of my fabric scraps and some spooky printed images I've collected over the years: victorian mourning cards, Edward Gorey art, album art from some of my favourite bands and maybe even some band logos, etc.

I plan to use my computer's printer to create iron-on transfers which I will iron onto cotton and incorporate into the design, but I need to know: in designs that include a lot of black, is it better to use the more expensive dark t-shirt transfers, in which the design appears exactly as you print it because you peel off the backing and print the design directly on the fabric, or could I print my designs on the light transfers and iron them onto white cotton?

Has anyone done this before? Which is the better option?

Thanks so much for your help!

Last night I couldn't sleep and browsed this community for hours, I saw some pretty cool home-made (duct)tape wallets and vowed to make one of my own.
Today I made one with mostly contact paper, a little duct-tape and an old Transformers comic (in Dutch!). I read some helpful tutorials but ended up using an existing wallet as a template.
I love it.

Too bad I don't have any money to put in it.

I'm visiting San Francisco in April (and moving there in August), and I'm looking for some fun crafty places to check out. Any suggestions?

I also finished this ) last night. I'm donating it to my mom for her annual Team Survivor hat auction and tea party. If any of you want to donate hats, let me know! All of the proceeds go to Team Survivor, which is a support group for women affected by breast cancer. It's based around exercise and nutrition, and all of the money they raise goes towards buying women athletic equipment and pays for things like race fees and training. E-mail me at heyheyrenai(at)hotmail(dot)com if you're interested in helping out!

Hello!

I am going to be in Vancouver for a little while starting on Saturday. It would be lovely if someone from around there wanted to show me around or let me know of places I should check out.

Just leave me a message if you'd like to help me out!

Ok, so my little sister is turning 18 in May, and my little brother is turning 16 in May. I want to make them something to mail to them (yes, I'm planning ahead), and I'm looking for ideas. I know their favorite colors, but beyond that I'm at a loss. I don't have much $$$, but I do have time and a lot of craft and fabric supplies.

Any ideas of small crafty things that would be good for older teens? I think I might make my sis a monster (I think she would like a cute girly one), but I'm really not sure for my brother.

I've looked thru the memories, but nothing really looks like something he would like. I'm thinking that the idea is out there, I just can't think of it right now...lol.

So I got a tshirt signed last night by INGRAM HILL, and I was wondering if anyone knew how you could preserve autographs with permanent marker on cotton tshirts, so they don't fade when you wash them?

worst case scenario is that I just don't wear it, but I'd like to be able to.

thanks!

I have a question, I read the www.this to that .com chart for glues, and I still am not sure. I would like to glue some pieces of painted canvas to another canvas I am painting now. Kind-of like a collage effect, using some pieces of an older painting, which I have cut up, and I want to glue it down to the newest painting I am doing. What kind of glue do you think I should use? Thanks,in advance! sorry no pics, but I'll post the painting when I'm done. :D

I'm looking for a type of bead that I saw in a necklace a while ago. Maybe I'm just slow, but I've been googling all afternoon and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. What I want is kind of like
this )

But the ones I want would be about twice as big, and more translucent. So Large Round Flat Fairly Translucent beads. Does anybody know where I could find this? Thanks :D

These are my first attempts at stenciling, I think they turned out pretty good.

I am cleaning out my room today and have found a bag of about 30 Girl Scout patches that I never sewed on to anything. If anyone is interested I would be more than happy to send these patches out to you.

UPDATE: Yet another update! The picture behind the cut shows the remaining patches!

I looked through the memories and didn't see an answer to my question, so. . .

I crocheted a bag out of strips made out of plastic grocery bags, as talked about at Marlo's Crochet Corner. I didn't go by that exact pattern, but it's the same idea.

Picture of the bag under the cut, sorry it's blurry )

I want to make it sturdier, so I got 3 yards of fabric to line it. But I have no clue how! I'm not a great seamstress, so I don't know where to start lining something out of plastic strips I've crocheted together (I crocheted a loop of the plastic and one strand of regular worsted weight yarn). I used one of those big plastic hooks, not sure of the size, and single crochet. I've seen a pictures of a lined plastic-bag-bag before, so I know it can be done, but I need some help!

Here's a pic of the fabric, if you're interested )

Thanks!

I am almost totally finished with my son's quilt - made it from some favorites of his outfits. I used a simple 'tv guide' quilt pattern (basically you use a rectangle of whatever size you want as the cutting template -only I didn't do such a good job cutting with my circular cutter thing. I think I was cutting too many layers at once. It has to be topstitched still, but I was too excited about it being in THIS state, and so very close to done-ness. hee.

Anyway...here are the pix:

Nor My Gai

I ordered authentic Chinese food for dinner tonight. Nor My Gai is one of the things I got, which is sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves.

I'm wondering... could I press the leaves into paper? Any other ideas on what I could do with them? They're a little damp/torn from my ravenous inhalation of the first food of nutritive value for the day... but they smell really good and I wouldn't want to waste them.

My first "real" crochet project. [I made a coaster yesterday, but I don't count that because it's lame and easy.]
