since i've just re-discovered The Smashing Pumpkins after about 4 years, i made myself a backpatch for a coat that i screwed up while painting. this is from the booklet for Machina.

I've come to the realization that I'm not alone in having thieving little rascals in my house.  Every few days it seems that one of us crafters loses something to a cat fiasco.  That said... I think it's time to list the things we've lost to our cats so we can all mourn together.

I'll just list the things that have disappeared this month (march):

1 Monsterswap monster
1 other felt monster
Shirt i made for a friend's stuffed playpus (which i also made)
Friend's stuffed platypus
1 Elvis Costello stencil (freezer paper)
1 knitting needle (that's okay, i wasn't any good...)
14 swatches from swatch basket (yes, i keep count)

anyone else?

Hi all,
I've been looking for a particular store online that sells a lot of quirky things, from beads to buttons to tins to disc & loop bracelets to rings with a flat setting so you can glue things on it and that sort of stuff. It wasn't a very hi-tech site, but they sold A LOT of different crafty items. It reminded me of an online thrift store because they had so much to offer.

In other news, I am currently in love with my new sewing machine. It's a Singer 630e Touch n Sew...I found it for $25!! at a thrift store with nearly all of its "fashion discs." That means I gets to sew fancy stitches without a compooter. It rocks. My dream project is this Chanel lace dress that Maggie Gyllenhaal wore to the Golden Globes a few years ago. I am also knitting a hat like this one, but it looks more like a blood-filled beehive than a cute cap.

have any of you every modified your prescription glasses by adding rhinestones or any other cutsie things?
i want to super glue some tiny rhinestones to my new frames.
anyone have experience with this? or any suggestions on what glue would be best to use? i'm sort of afraid of super glue.

My friend Elizabeth and I are starting an online-jewelry company. Mainly earrings. Here are the first 5 that I scanned in, what do you guys think?

Friday is one of my co-worker's bday, and he is known as the 'donut guy' cause he brings in a couple dozen donuts for everyone every week and has been for years. We're throwing him a surprise party and everyone's donating to get him some donut themed gifts. I was asked to make him a stuffed donut, but decided that a giant donut would be funnier.

STUFFED DONUT! YUM! )

A while back a girl posted a bunch of earrings using plastic charms & I really loved some Dr.Pepper ones she had. I just saw an online store that used all of the same charms she used ~ I started to email them to ask when I thought it was just a one-girl-run business, but then realized they had actual stores ;) So, does anyone know where to get the kinds of charms from this site? (Mostly I would like the Dr.Pepper & Rubik's Cubes) I've googled as much as I can :p

On a side note ~ I was trying to put a clear sealer over the acrylic paint I had used to paint my Sculpey covered tin (a tree tin I posted about a week ago).... It is a clear matte spray, but when I used it, it just covered the whole thing in white speckles! I used the HobLob brand ~ has anyone else had troubles with this, or could recommend a good brand? (Here's a tip ~ don't leave your black spray paint can out next to your clear coat. Bah!)
Thanks ;)

This is my latest project, I have yet to finish glazing the faery tiles I last posted I'm still running test tiles for it. On this project I removed clay instead of adding it, for the 3D effect, because of the small "strings". Let me know what you think.

I want to make some of those cute beaded flip flops I am seeing everywhere

Has anyone done this before? Is it better to get plastic or fabric straps and if I just glued them on would that work or should I string and sew them on?
[identity profile] queenmabwords.livejournal.com
American print toile?

Here's a recent project! I have a better picture of it somewhere, this is the strand before I knotted it. Lilac colored pearls with smaller white pearls. It's a stunner.

Update
I found the better picture.

I have several bottles I want to melt down into spoon rest and cheese boards. Has anyone done this or have info on it ? I know you fire them at 1500 degrees. I'm not sure how long and if you hang them or lay them flat to melt them. All I've seen have wires in them. Thanks for the help !

Hello!

Can anyone here help me? I am looking to buy some of this type of vinyl...you know the kind....not thin tablecloth type vinyl, but the thick stuff that looks like leather? Like what they'd use for fake leather on cars and such? I have been googling it up and down, but there are so many types of vinyl...I am not finding any that looks like this...it comes in different colors...anyone know if it has a special name or where I could order some by the yard online? Thanks!

shoe glue?

[identity profile] thejoysofjess.livejournal.com
so today i saw this girl with the most adorable flipflops ever on.

they had buttons all up and down the strap. i looked online and all versions are really too pricey. so, i decided "heck, old navy sells flipflops for only 3.50" and decided to make my own.

but, when gluing plastic buttons to rubber straps of flipflops, what kind of glue is going to hold up the best? keep in mind that i live in florida and wear flipflops 9 months of the year.
[identity profile] metal-soul27.livejournal.com
has anyone ever tried using spray paint on duct tape? will it dissolve the plastic if I don't have the plastic specific brand of paint? my boyfriend is being picky about an airsoft gun sling we just made.

I remember when I was younger I'd make bracelets out of embroidery floss during the summers. They were easy to do and I could bring them anywhere with me to work on. I feel like making them again. Does anyone have any harder designs for me to try?
[identity profile] view-from-here.livejournal.com
For those of you who know/use theringlord.com, have you purchased any of the sample packs of jump rings? I was looking at one (Anodized Niobium Sampler), but wasn't sure if I was getting exactly what was in the image or just one of each type or something like that. If anyone could tell me, that'd be awesome!

I'll be posting a stenciled shirt soon, so staaaay tuned.
[identity profile] theshwiggles.livejournal.com
I was just sitting here thinking about how I'm going to get a green shirt by Thursday, and stencil it, and where I'm going to find it, when a thought came to me.

I've heard alot about dying your hair with Kool-aid... do you think that you could dye clothing? I mean.. or do you think that it would wash out way too quick? Would it keep at all? Is there something I could put in there to make it stay? I really don't need it to last very long.. I just need it for that night. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
