A new monster is born! Her name is SidneySarah. She is a very fancy sea-horse and is covered in gold sequins (and one gold flower sequin for extra fanciness!) She is made with dark green panne velvet, milky turquiose eyes, black fur for hair, and a red heart. :)

Say hello!

She is all hand-stitched, no pattern. :)

I bought a corkboard and I don't want it the boring brown. If I use my acrylic paint, will it absorb (like with foam board) into the cork material? If not will it fade or wipe off on papers?

*Note, I bought the corkboard for the sole purpose of displaying all the marble pushpins (alternative to magnets) that I've made. I was sick of them hiding in a box!

There's bound to be someone in this massive community who can tip me off here:

I'm interested in the latest craze of using recycled rubber as craft material. I've seen it used for everything from purses to pants but the prices are outrageous and I'm poor. Anyone know if there is some source for recycled rubber material resale? I don't know if I have the equipment to take an old bicycle tire and make it into a halter top, but if there is any place that takes care of the hard part and makes it into workable rolls/sheets, then I think I'd manage from there. Is this just wishful thinking? Help!

I finally finished my bingata kinchaku last night! For those who don't know what bingata is - it is a rather unique and vibrant traditional dying technique from Okinawa - it contains a lot of traditional Japanese patterns, but, is highly influenced by the various islands and countries surrounding it also giving it the unique flavour that it has... I have written about bingata in a previous post of mine here. A kinchaku is a traditional Japanese bag often used when dressed in kimono.

Anyhow - I've had the fabric cut out to sew this for months and months - I just never got a chance to do it until last night. This kinchaku would be perfect to be used with kimono or yukata - or even contempoary clothing. It measures around 7inches across the bottom and 7 inchs tall...and 3 inches wide at the base. Both the outside and inside is silk.

I also made this kinchaku early last year - just never got a chance to post it...it has a basket bottom and is lined with purple cotton. The outside fabric is a soft pink silk with this awesome metallic woven floral pattern.

And last, but not least - I made a tiny green shibori frog last night:

What's the neatest/most fun/most original craft you've ever done?

Alright, please don't crucify me for asking a marble magnet question but I did not see this covered anywhere in the memories or on any website I've been to.

I've made a bunch of the marbles already, but instead of magnets, I would like to make some of them into tacks. Now I love the altoid box idea of storing and presenting them but that doesn't quite work for tacks. Is there any way you've figure out to present and hold tacks?

Thank ya!

PS. This community is so bad for me. I have so many ideas swimming in my head now that this semester is done. Must..go..to..salvation..army..and ..pick...up..supplies! :D

So we've been cleaning out this place and found some tons of my grandpa's old documents, some dated back to the fifties. He had them stored in (what now I'd guess to be) antique letter boxes. They're made out of wood and super thick cardboard.

I want to do something with them. The only idea I have is to convert them into bead boxes. I want to do other things with them...but I'm at a loss as to what.

This was an idea I had while making my jewlery.I had ran out of my usual barel closures and needed something new.Looking around I found my boyfriends new thing of nut and bolts and low en behold..they make great clasps. The pic's are big to show better detail hence the links.Dun think people would want to wait for the pics to load in there journals.

Nut and Bolt Necklace

Nut and Bolt Bracelet

Nut and Bolt Ankelet

Indian Themed Nut and Bolt Necklace

Jus some small info on those. Each one of them is made with glass beads an string the clasp is your standerd washer nut and bolt so they just twist close.Plus if you ever loose the nut you can just go to any hardware store and get another one..lol.
The Indian themed necklace is made out of black and red wood tubes, sterling silver beads and black seperaters also has plastic silver feathers.
I just wish I could remeber the size of the nuts, bolts and washers.

Hi everyone! Sorry this is a text-only, but it *might* be interesting? Anyway..

Yesterday, I discovered "lotion candles" at the Rennaissance Festival. Yes! You burn the candle, then you blow out the flame, and just dip your fingers in the puddle of lotion-wax-stuff, and rub it on your hands! It doesn't burn you or anything, and my candle smells like gummy bears. Mmmmm, gummy bears...

Cut for questions.. )

I just thrifted a really cool grey-khaki-ish jacket (made by Express) for $2 in really good condition. It looks nice as it is, but I'm thinking about distressing it with sandpaper or maybe a cheese grater.

The problem is that all of the posts about distressing have been for denim, and denim is usually made of mostly cotton fibers. But this jacket is 96% cotton and 4% Lycra, and I'm afraid that the Lycra may not work well for distressing. Will it ruin the jacket if I sand it down a little around the edges?

I'm a member of my school's Roots and Shoots group (http://www.rootsandshoots.org/ ), an organization started by Jane Goodall to help people, animals, and the environment. As a way to raise money to help several of our projects, our group will be holding a recycled crafts fair during lunch for one week before the winter holidays. So far, we're planning to sell the following crafts:

- Recycled crayons http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel178245&catid=cat253
- Scented, handmade paper
- Small clutches, ipod cozies, cell phone holders from plastic bags
http://www.marloscrochetcorner.com/bag%20cutting%20instructions.html
- Soda tab bracelets (much faster than belts)
http://www.animesushi.com/modules/PNphpBB2/files/belt.jpg
- Origami from recycled paper
- Paper beads & stuff made from them
http://www.lisavollrath.com/articles/070.html

So what we're looking for are recycled craft ideas that high schoolers would buy (that we could sell for under $20) for themselves, their friends, siblings, or parents. Nothing too festive, though- we're trying to get last minute shoppers by selling before winter break, but, if we don't sell well, we want to be able to sell them again in the spring. All ideas/links welcome!

Hey everyone! This is my first post. I'm not really as crafty as many of you craft-masters. Last summer, I was looking through the cheap-o wal*mart fabric section and found some great material that I thought I could make curtains out of. Pink is my absolute favorite color. I've never made anything close to curtains, and I didn't end up using a pattern. I just kinda went with what I thought would work.

Here they are!  )

I hope to do something else that's a little more crafty, and maybe follow a pattern. Maybe perhaps pillow cases and a bed spread. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best type of fabric (blend) to use for making sheets? I'm not lookin' to buy any egyptian cotton, lol :)

Wheeee!

A Bat! I had a lot of fun with this little one today. She's made of red velvet, silver panne velvet, and black microsuede. She's adorned with glass bead eyes, black fur, and a red heart. :)

This one is *so* mine. :)

I need some help!

I'm putting some new earrings up on my website, some of which happen to be some simple gemstone earrings. Problem is that I've forgotten some of the stones that they're made out of.

The middle three are amethyst, rose quartz, and [transparent?] quartz. I can't for the life of me remember the type of stones in the first and last.

Anyone know?
