zombie helen

zombie helen wasn't always a zombie. she used to be known as the sweetest kisser in town. oh helen was just wild about boys, and most of the boys were wild about helen. her mother always warned her about kissing boys - "cooties!" she would say, but helen never listened. so when that sweet, but greenish, fellow from the next town over brought her flowers - of course she gave him a thank-you kiss. unfortunately he wanted more, mostly her brains. helen felt a bit unhappy at first, but has settled into her undeadness quite comfortably. ever the flirt, helen still smothers the boys in kisses before she eats their brains. such a sweetheart.

[ her skin is actually crackled and a bit more undead and sickly in person, it just didnt want to photograph terribly well. sculpey, wire, paint, the usual ]

I know I just posted my brother's hemp jewelry, but this one deserves its own post. My boyfriend is majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in materials engineering, and he made this ring in one of his materials classes. For my birthday (um, which was a while ago, I just never thought to post it before tonight - I remembered people sometimes post cool silver stuff here)! Whee! I don't know much about it except that it's pure (? as close as it gets I guess) silver and cast using some kind of a mold. Plaster maybe? I dunno if that would hold up to silver, but I don't remember what he told me he used. I think they used clay to make the initial mold. He carved it so that my initials would look like they were carved into the silver. It was a pretty complicated process... including the mold/melted silver being spun around so the silver would fill the mold. I love it and I love that he made it for me!

closeups in here )

Hope you think it's as cool as I do... ;) I'll stop gushing now.

i haven't seen any graphic works posted on this group since i've joined, and i honestly consider that to being crafty. i redid my livejournal layout a bit ago and one of my best friends. i did all the html and i made all the graphics from scratch that are used as the backgrounds. check out mine ([livejournal.com profile] kelsey_dear) and my best friend joseph's ([livejournal.com profile] yourmyamblance). i also did the graphics & layouts for my myspace [click here] and my boyfriends [click here for his]

now, some shirts i've made )

i also do lj icons/avitars [whatever you want to call them], and PILLOWS [i'll post those later once i get more organized]. the pillow making got into habit when i moved into the dorms on campus last fall and i ended up having a KING size bed in my dorm. there was so much room to the bed i needed stuff to take up space, and pillow buying would have gotten way to expensive, plus it was easier to buy fabrics that MATCHED at walmart for like a buck or two per yard. walmart's clearance racks are awesome sometimes. ;D

I'm going to be so busy this week preparing for the sidewalk sale! And whatever I don't sell I'll peddle at zinefest! Oh man. I'm looking forward to being glued to the sewing machine this week.

The heart is a design I'm going to screenprint for this sale this weekend (I found out about it here!) but I am not sure whether to add 'anatomy' or 'anatomie du coeur' along the side of the heart. Opinions?

I made another bag yesterday. This one only took me like 2 hours. I think it's rather cute. Here's some pictures:

So Im new around here, been checking out all the crazy cool stuff since I stumbled upon this place some time ago via a link to a nintendo controller blanket... So I thought it was high time to share a sampling of my own stuff...

Trompe L'Oeil style painting - its 3x4ft- i did this about 4 years ago, yet it is still my favorite wall decoration :)

I decided to make my next necklace a bit more summery and earthy. It's made from green Czech glass seed beads and green garnet chips with a pewter Tree of Life pendant.

I was inspired by the knitted Yoda crafts to create my own crocheted version. I used an h-hook & Red Heart Brites to make his face/body, and an i-hook & Lionbrand Homespun yarn to make his clothing. The cane he is holding is a bamboo-like toothpick (someone gave my mom a toothpick holder that came with toothpics that looked like bamboo, so I took one ^_-). I still don't know how I feel about his face, but mehhhh, I still think he's cute. ^_^ I think I'm going to give it to the boyfriend on our 3-year anniversary (next week), but I kind of want to keep Yoda for myself, too! Haha.

I also knit myself up a hat recently out of some pippi kneesocks yarn, in "Cafe au Lait". It was about 56 yards or so; just barely enough to complete knitting this hat. I would've liked it to be slightly looser/longer, but I didn't have enough yarn to do so. I still love it though. :)

+ how I made Yoda! (so you can make one, too!) )

I was looking at the old seashells I have that my hermit crabs have outgrown, and got to thinking. Some of them are really pretty, and I think I'd like to string them onto a piece of leather or something to make a neat charm-type necklace.

Problem is, some are really thin. I've drilled holes in seashells before, but never ones you could practically see through if you held them to the light. Is there any way to make the hole that will keep it from cracking and ruining the shell? The one I have in mind is a mother of pearl-type shell, and it's too pretty to destroy.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I need to put buttons on it but other than that my first knitting project is complete, it is a camera case that my mouse decided to test out so you could see the size of it. I crocheted a little edge on the top so I could do button holes because I'm not that good at knitting yet;)
And some deployment bracelets I custom made for an entire family.

i have been so utterly bored in my room that i made two flyers for my friend christie's birthday bash. the first is more professional [considering it is part of their tour], and the 2nd is bright and colorful and has a photo of her on it since it is her party and all. photobucket resized the 2nd one on it's own, that explains the shrinkage. if you hadn't noticed, i do a lot of graphic crafting more than anything these days. ;D

I had so much fun with my mom today.
It's funny how the older you get, the more you appreciate your parents.

What do you get when you combine a wine rack, stick on foam stars, and spray paint? )

With my 2 week trip to Australia coming up terribly fast (13th July I leave - argh!) I've been crafting up a storm trying to get a bunch of stuff finished before I go. Well...that is inbetween playing Katamari Damacy though. (Damn, I am totally addicted to that game - all I can think of is what I can roll up next....I even started rolling my cat around the apartment until she bit me).

Anyhow. Being the dorky ol' goth I normally am I decided to challenge myself to make cute, bright and summery kanzashi flowers rather than the subtle ones I tend to make. Let me tell you - I'm glad I did that, because I am totally happy with this batch of flowers. I really needed a bright candy coloured infusion!

I also made these two spring clip barrette using scraps of fabric I had left over from a previous project:

photograph of spring clips here )

And last, but not least - my new favourite project! One of my absolute favourite traditional Japanese motif is the Chidori (or, plover, in English). It is the crest of the Pontocho geisha district in Kyoto - along with being a very popular pattern on kimono. I normally don't like bird motifs much - but, the chidori is so happy and plump- I cannot help it! So, I decided to make a line of chidori goodies - starting with a brooch:

I told my mother I would make her a bag to put all her magazines and notepads and pens and such in when she comes over to babysit her grandbean...and I finally got around to it. Pretty basic stuff, but I like the fabric.
The edges are done in vintage bias tape. The bottom corners are expanded so it isn't just two rectangles sewn together. Lined in brown corduroy. Not shown: internal stripey pen pocket.

today was devoted to my ipod cozy!

the day began in tears and frustration because the cheap sewing machine sucks butt and I'm a sewing noob as is. mom then helped me out and showed me how to use her big fancy expensive machine. we made one and it turned out Eh.

then I went about it on my own terms.

I am VERY proud of my results. )

I know, just what you all want to see, another ipod cozy. but I don't make postable things often so Nyeh! you get to look.

This is my first bag. I just bought a new sewing machine... My very own pattern I made out of a huge roll of brown paper.

I am *really* proud of how it turned out. I made it for my soon to be mother in law who works for Texas A&M. I made a flower for the front too. :) It's a pin..

Hope you like.
