When I was needle-felting all those Peeps, I made this little flower to give myself a break from the repetition. I hot-glued it to a clippie and gave it to a friend. It's rather poofy and squishable up close.
Yarn/dyeing from the past week
Jun. 27th, 2005 10:34 am
3.6 ounces, and 50 yards. To make this yarn I dyed two colors of wool--one light grey, the other charcoal gray. I spun all of the wool, and the result was two single plies of similar colored yarn (one bright and vivid, the other very deep and more subdued), which I then plied together. This is a very thick yarn.

3.3 ounces of bright green, teal, purple, and blue thick and thin yarn. There's about 85 yards here, and the yarn is very very soft. I'd guess that larger knitting needles--13s or 15s would be best for this yarn. The WPI is about 5-7.
( More yarn... )
My poor spinning wheel has gotten quite a workout this week. I've been spinning for about 7 hours a day, each day. The other night I almost got sick because I'd been watching the flyer spin around too much...very very dizzy-making.

Jun. 27th, 2005 11:11 ammy little sister has grown out of all her old A cup bras, and wants to get rid of them.
Before she tosses them, I'm trying to find a craft of some sort for them.
They look new still, and they're realy cute with the lace and ribbon and stuff.
I was wonder if you guys had any ideas?
ps. i heard theres a way to attach them to some fabric on the bottom, to make a shirt/dress, but I don't know anyone thats an A cup. And I mos def cannot squeeze my D's into an A. Haha

Jun. 27th, 2005 01:09 pmI've been a long-time lurker, and I've posted under another name (girlwithpencil). I'm sorry to make a post like this, but I know that there are a few mothers in this community, so I hope this is not an inappropriate post for this community.
I am going to babysit my niece (two years old), and my nepehw (who will be four in a couple of weeks) for a few weeks this summer. Since I live in Norway, I'm pretty sure that there will be a few rainy days and I was hoping some of you might know of some fun activities they would enjoy on days like these? I know that my nephew loves to "help baking" (as in... decorating what his mum makes), but Gerd might be a bit too young for this. I know I could just give them some markers and some paper, but I want to do a few things that they might not have done before, so they'll have a cool experience with their aunt.
I know of a few activities, but I'm not sure if they're age-appropriate to the both of them.
Any suggestions at all would be welcome. :)

First off, a question. There's a t-shirt that I really want to get but the store doesn't have a place to try it on so it's a hit and miss thing. It's a normal adult (mens sizes, I'm guessing) band t-shirt so they're big sized. There's one small left though, I'm wondering if anyone would know or guess as to what size that'd be in junior girls size? Like I said, I'd just try it on but it doesn't have a dressing room and I won't wear anything if it's TOO tight...
Anyway I haven't posted in awhile so here's a few things I've been up to lately.

Jun. 27th, 2005 03:13 pmSo I've been a long time lurker, as seems to be the case with a lot of people....and I've been in craft hibernation since I went to college. No room to do anything. But it's summer and I have a few things under my belt so far....I'm into anything, these are just some stencils and an ipod mini cozy, that is slighty too large, and a little crappy, but hey, it's been awhile, I'm just getting back into the swing of things! ;)

No more free swatches for this Canadian
Jun. 27th, 2005 03:51 pmDarn it! I was just ordering 10 free fabric swatches from Distinctive Fabric for my boyfriend ;) because I really love their swatches and service when I got this message:
"Sorry, but due to excessive trade barriers, we cannot ship to countries other than the US at this time."
Grr, just 2 weeks ago I got my additional 5 free swatches from them :(

All right. Now I'm going to start off by saying I do *not* own the images I have used to create the crafts and I have *NOT* made money off of them. Though... I wished I could. ^^

Blanket progress!
Jun. 27th, 2005 04:33 pmSo I've been working on a granny hexagon blanket for a while, and I finally laid out all of my hexagons and I'm almost halfway done! This is really exciting to me because I've been doing this off and on since January (my goal is to have it done when I graduate college, which is next April), and I thought I was getting nowhere on it.

i was wondering if any of you can direct me towards somewhere that sells CHEAP, plain beanie type hats, and also somewhere that sells cheap, plain umbrellas (preferably places/sites that are in or will ship to england) speaking of umbrellas, what sort of paint do you reckon would work on umbrellas, cause the fabric is waterproof (duh) maybe it needs special paint?? and im goingt o presume it isnt wise to sew things onto an umbrella (putting holes in it defeats the point slightly) so..... glue?? AAAAAND, one last question, if i wanted to cut circles or something out of an umbrella and fill them in with clear vinyl, how would i go about that? does fabric glue work on vinyl? and how likely is it that it will stay???
woo. mom's sewing machine is sick of me.

I've been working on this skirt and I finally finished it. This skirt was inspired by Alice in Wonderland. I bought these new leggins aswell. I've been looking for some with the lace trim on them.

Here's a close up on the fabric.
Thanks for looking. ♥

Oh, you can tell I was tired and had too much caffine. Anyway, the actual reason for this post was to give the patterns I have for the coasters. I can't guarantee quality, but I hope that everyone will get the general idea.

Pattern #5 Small Mario:

I didn't have a pattern for the pipe, I invented that one and Luigi I made by merely changing the colors on the small Mario to green and black.
I hope that helps anyone who wants to give them a try!
Enjoy and thanks for looking!

tie-dying or batiking?
Jun. 27th, 2005 07:17 pmSorry everyone, this is a text-only question post.
I'm planning on dying some good quality cotton. I want to dye it so that there are circles of plain white (some "threading" of the color I'll dye it is okay, but I want the circles to be largely white.) The only way I know to tie-dye something is to pinch the fabric and wrap a rubber band around it, but then there will be a colored spot in the middle, and I want a full circle, not a doughnut. I tried wrapping the rubber band all the way to the tip, but it always slips off the end.
Can I use tape or something like that, instead? I have some waterproof medical tape.
Should I consider batiking? Can I use candle wax for batiking? Maybe I could just batik the tips of the wrapped cones of fabric I've made.
Any other suggestions?

Sand washing
Jun. 27th, 2005 07:19 pmHello! I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas on home fabric sand-washing or something which might give the same effect. If anyone knows any good textile websites in general (dying, printing, altering, etc.) that would also be awesome.
Ive been making some DIY shoes, adding lace, ribbon, etc.. Let me know what you think, give me suggestions!
And question: i don't like how the hot glue shoes through some of the lace, does anyone have suggestions?
What do you think good prices would be for these?

Well, I don't know how happy I am with it, which is probably why I hardly knit anymore (spend tedious hours on a project only to be not-so-happy with your results). I intended to give it as a gift to my cousin, but I don't know if it's worthy. Of course, I am my own worst critic, so please tell me what you think.
