Screencaps... I have the newest version of VLC, I have the original media player, and I still can't manage to take one good screencap to make my stencils of. Anybody have a link/some tips to how I can fix this.

Sorry for being o/t... I'm going to use the information for crafting, if that helps :P I just can't seem to find any relevant places to ask, and from my experience you guys are allknowing and might help.

I apologise in advance for a distinct lack of pictures, but this will be corrected eventually.

So I had this pair of corduroy pants. They were soft, they were comfy, then they were ripped down one butt-cheek courtesy of a file cabinet accident at work. Ripped in such a way that I could not fix them and continue to wear them to work. Lacking enough appropriate outfits for work, I needed to make somethine else equally office-appropriate. So, here's what I did:

- I cut off the legs as high as I could and removed the zipper and the waistband. I took off the back pockets for fun later and a couple small pieces for my quilt. I tossed the remaiming scraps.

- I opened up the legs at the outside seam on either side and undid the hem at the bottom of the legs.

- I put said legs together to form a giant tube. It had a bit of a neat shape, as the original pants were a little flared. I left a little space in one side seam to put in the zipper. I installed said zipper.

- I flipped the whole mess upside down, so the original bottom of the pants is now at the waist. I dressed up my trusty duct-tape dress form to put a couple of pleats in to fit the waist. I sewed down the tops of the pleats so they would stay.

- I took the former pants waistband, button and all, and sewed it back on to the skirt, lining up the button so it was over the side zipper. This was irritating, as I had to adjust the pleats a bit to fit the length of the original waistband. But, it was done and looked good.

- I undid the back center seam a little (6" or so + 2" for the hem) and sewed the sides back to make a cute little kick pleat (and so I could walk), then I pressed & sewed the hem.

- Victorious, I wore my happy new skirt to work. The best compliment I got was "Where did you buy that?" Only one person recognized them as my orevious pants and only enough to comment on the similarity of the fabric.

I have plans to convert a pair of men's dress pants that a friend of mine is giving up, just cuz the fabric is all soft and nifty, plus possibly making a shorter skirt and top out of another pair. In my experience, doing the conversion this way has given me better results than the old "undo the inseam" way , plus I can convert pants that have met with unsightly rips in the rear or crotchular region.

I'd like to see what other people come up with using this technique.

A few weeks ago I made a necklace for myself, which is a rarity these days, and I thought I'd share a photo. It's made of dyed green fresh water pearls, olivine/antique silver cathedral beads, ss wire, a great ss toggle clasp with a floral design, and cast bronze dogwood blossom pendants (which I bought from a local jewelry store that's having a huge sale).

I'm really happy with how it turned out and I've gotten several compliments on it from random people. I just thought I'd share with everyone!

I am truly an amateur with a crochet hook.  I have never really been taught how. So, I make hats. Unfortunately, I always make them too large or too small. This hat was *meant* for my 18 year-old daughter, but ended up being the right size for my 4 year-old. If anyone knows where I can go to find clear instructions on how to make a hat the size I want, I would appreciate it. (Oh, and I still don't have this LJ cut business down, yet. Forgive the edit process.

Hey everyone,

I'm working with velvet-y material, and it's slightly stretchy. I'm making it into a skirt, with a wide waist band (like this only the skirt would be longer)...As it's stretchy, is a zipper or buttons really such a good idea? Should I instead put in an elastic band on the waist, or would that be silly because the velvet is already stretchy, so it wouldn't do anything to help hold it up?

I would just make it snug to my waist and hope it holds itself up, but I really hate when stuff doesn't stay up...would that be the best option, though? Do you think it would stay up?

Err, as you can tell, I'm really lost, so I'd LOVE it if you could help me out...if anything was unclear, just ask! I could really use your help!

Thanks!
Elyse

My daughter saw the scarf that Hilary Duff wears in that video that has been playing on the Disney Channel and wants one. I need to find it and try and see if I can do the stitch first and then get the yarn for it. It shouldn't be too tough, but if anyone knows then any help would be great. I can't see it vvery clearly on the video so I may be making it up and trying to get it as close as I can.

Hi girls,
Don't know if anyone is already in the familiar with this site, but it seems like a pretty good thing for those of us who don't have instruction manuals, depending on your machine. It shows threading diagrams for many sewing machines.

so, i know in my last post with an embroidered onesie, i said i'd probably just end up stenciling the other two. however, because i'm a sucker for punishment, i decided to embroider the other two instead. so here they are. )

and a craft not involving babies: my friend and i noticed that the mailbox for my house was gross. rusty with the plastic covering mostly chipped off. it needed some serious redesigning, and this is what we came up with. )

hey! i'm not sure if this belongs here or not, but i need some suggestions..

i'm moving into a tiny dorm room with 4 other girls in two weeks, and i'm going to need something to make my space more 'personal'. i'm bringing tons of pictures with me, and i'm not sure what to do with them.

i have atleast 100 paint sample squares and was thinking of making a frame out of them to surround the pictures and having a colorful square "block" above my desk - but what do i put on the back of the samples, so it's not just flimsy paper? and could i cover the samples with sparkley modpodge to just make them more "cute"? (if anyone else has ideas for paint samples, besides a wallet/purse, i'd love to hear them.)

also: here's a pillow i'm working on for my dorm.. (the paint is actually a bright teal. & the left side isn't crooked, i just didn't iron it down, yet.)

i'd love any cheap, simple ideas for dorm decorating.

Only 2 pictures, one really bad picture under the cut, cuz my camera sucks.

hi everyone! i've never posted in here, but though i'd show you something a little different that i'm proud of :)

i'm in love with houndstooth, so i painted our old dresser seafoam green and chocolate brown ( some say mint chocolate chip) and had fun with it.

it took forever because i used acrylic based house paint and did multiple coats, but it was worth it. sorry the picture isn't the greatest, it's hard to get the whole thing in one shot!

More of Dream For a Cure version 2.0 )

I really like how version 2 came out. The beads are much more noticeable than the clear heart beads (with the pink ribbon) I used last time. (The last dream catcher went to my mom's doctor's chemo room) and whats really cool is that I can make those kind of beads out of fimo and I can change the color of the ribbons.
I'm going to put this one up on e-bay with some of the proceeds going to the Susan G Komen foundation.
