i just bought my very own sewing machine, it's a brother bm-2600 -- the cheapest and most basic sewing machine i can afford. my first project is a tissue-purse. pardon the uneven sewing and off-center opening... i'm a noob...

and this is my first knitting project! credit goes to [livejournal.com profile] geobabe for her kitty tutorial.

This horse is my submission to Month of Softies for August. The theme is "Wild West." He is made from wool tweed and wool felt and the pattern came from The Big Book of Soft Toys by Mabs Tyler.

I made matching aprons - one for myself and one for my one-year-old daugther. They are pieced together like a quilt top and lined with vintage floral fabric.

Hey my name is Char. maybe you would remember me as damn_emotions ... i made a lot of patches here and posted 'em. but anyways...i come to you all with a problem. i have a favourite shirt that is currently a sleep shirt. but i want to make it wearable. but i dont know what to so...should i take it in and put a skirt onto it since it is long enough and just make it a dress? or should i just make it a shirt. i really want to do something with it before it wears out. but see my biggest problem is that it is an odd colour. and wouldnt really lok good with anything...so im thinking of adding a skirt onto it so that it would have a bit more colour...but i have no idea what colour to add on....

anyways...onto the pix to get what im saying

its pinky, its pinky and the brain brain brain brain brain... )

I made a book for my boyfriend for no particular reason. It's kind of zine-like.

Handmade paper cover, rice paper innards, hand drawn, machine sewn. 16 pages. 3 days.

Alright ladies (and gentlemen)!

Post your craft website URL with a description of the crafts found there, and I will put this post in the memories and link it on the info page as one giant list of crafty goodness sites. All craft sites included, even *gasp* selling ones. Maybe this will get it out of our systems for a while, eh? :D

Ready? Set? Go!

I am having fun making these things! They're pretty quick, so that makes it even more enjoyable! Here's two I recently made.

Here's what I finished today. )

I'm pretty happy with it. It's been a long time since I did any beading, and this turned out pretty well. It made me want to do more, which is a good sign.

Right now I'm working on a memory box for my husband for our first wedding anniversary in October. There's so much stuff - I bought a box and am now painting over the design on it in black so that I can cover it in paper without the design showing through.

So, there's that, as well as the decos and slams that came yesterday. And only a week until I go back to work! Yikes!

Ok, here's a quick question for all you expert crocheters. I'm teaching myself how to crochet, and I have the actual stitches down, but I'm having a problem at the end of my rows. When I get to the last stitch in the row (the one from the turning chain of the previous row) where exactly am I supposed to make my stitch? I understand that it is supposed to be in the last chain from the turning row, but do I put it in both the top loops, or just in one loop like when you work on the foundation chain? I hope that this is a somewhat clear question, it's hard to describe with out a picture!

Thank you so much!

some new things (dress, shirt, skirt) and my inspiration for them )

For the past few weeks I have been so unmodivated to make anything. So in a couple of days I ended up cranking out a few shirts, dresses and skirts. ♥Craftster+LJ. Thanks to everyone for making such great stuff (and posting it) for me (and others) to be inspired by. keep up the good work

When [livejournal.com profile] beaveronaleash  made her button clock, I had to do one of my own.  Ours was just plain and boring.  So, here it is:

I've never put a picture under a cut before, so I hope I did it right.

So I was walking down my block with my friends the other day and saw a big pile of junk on the side of the road. It was not garbage night, so I got excited, and saw the big "free" sign by it. It was mostly old hard suitcases, so I took a little blue one and a big red one. I'm going to clean them up and paint them all pretty.

Should I use acrylic paint? Or else, what? I assume afterwards I should spray it with some sort of...something to keep the paint from chipping off, but I'm not entirely sure what (though I'm sure my parents have a plethora of options in their basement...)

The suitcase appears to be plastic. I would take a picture of it, but I'm at my parents' house and I left my cord for my camera at my apartment. But any help would be greatly appreciated and I will of course post pictures when I'm done. Thanks!

My boy is leaving me for UNC on Thursday to major in musical theater. So we decided to make a little something for each other...

fabric, yarn, fabric paint, needle & thread, hot glue, googly eyes, denim, rhinestones, poly fil, and two hours of poking ourselves with needles attempting to sew =

The two of us... in doll form. )

I'm in the process of making fabric grocery bags so I stop wasting the ones from the store. This is my second one so far. It's kind of a wide tote/flapless messenger bag. This is also my first attempt at stenciling. I need more practice and better supplies. The fabric is from an old button-up shirt, I raided my boyfriend's stash of acrylics for the paint and the stencil itself was made out of label paper. Both stencils were found at http://www.livejournal.com/community/stencilxcore/107798.html and are originally from Peta.

I was hoping someone could recommend a good [inexpensive] dye to use?

I don't have any experience with dying fabric, but I have a track jacket [95% cotton/5% spandex]I was given as a gift that is a horrible light aqua color that I would like to dye a navy blue.
Also, there are bands down each side that are white, aqua, dark turquoise and black striped. would those areas take to the dye any differently?
Would it be easier to dye it a diefferent color than navy blue?

[unfortunately I don't have a digital camera so I don't have any pictures of the jacket.]

Thank you in advance!

Hey everyone, sorry to always troll for ideas but you guys just have such great ones! I can't help it!!

A bunch of us girls (7 of us I think) are going to puerto vallarta for a bachalorette party, I'd love to make something cute for everyone, but I'm not sure what I should make. Does anyone have any ideas?

alright so i used this tutorial from craftster.org (the hobo jordy bag tutorial)
and it was all working out lovely, until i got to the straps! I got pretty frustrated and cut them off of the pattern, then made my own and sewed them onto the bag with buttons :)
it looks okay.. for a first i guess.but i hope to get better its also kind of floppy because i didnt do interfacing why? because i dont know how or what to use.

on to the pictures )

thanks for looking :)

ok so my friend is going abroad to italy and her birthday is on saturday, so I wanted to make her something that would be helpful and keep her close to home while she was away for the semester...

easton and limekiln is where our school is located.

I'm still going to replace the straps, I think but otherwise, I'm pretty excited about it!

I hope it's okay to ask this here, but I was hoping I could find someone who is into screenprinting who would make me a shirt or two. I have tons of really awesome stuff to trade for them. If this is inapproporiate feel free to delete.

Pants bag )

After seeing a few of these jeans bags popping up I decided to make one of my own. My fodder was a pair of green cargo jeans that were too long and got a hole in them. The handles are belts from the local salvation army. It's all handsewn since my stupid sewing machines bobbin mechanism decided to die.
(as soon as I get some time I am sooo fixing that thing.)
I'm thinking of making it prettier.... somewhere on (or under) my craft desk is a pink ribbon applique that will go well on it since it will be transporting crafts for my mom and I to do while she gets her chemo. Then I might try to make a stencil of a dreamcatcher since those are my thing.

I also made a second version of my breast cancer awareness dreamcatcher (titled "I dream for a cure") that I will post as soon as I can get a pic of it that does it justice.
