Crochet toy hammock/shawl/wallhanging
Aug. 25th, 2005 12:32 amhi crafty crafters!
I'm looking for a pattern for a triangular net I can hang from my ceiling (basically, one hook in the very corner, then, two more hooks 3-4 feet out and my net in the middle) that I can hang my stuffed toys from...
I own VERY MANY toys... and I"m moving into an apartment where storage will be at a premium... (so stuffed toys in the hammock, action figures and whatnot on the shelves... I'm moving in with my boyfriend who's just as much a geek as I am, and we collect toys.)
Anyone have a pattern? I'm gonna try and figure it out in my head... (I"m tinking make a 5ft long chain, then, treble crochet, skip 3, continue to end, and just work down in right angles... )
I've got great rainbow colored crochet thread, and I'm gonna do it with a big-ish hook.
I'll post pics with its done.

Aug. 25th, 2005 01:51 amAnybody have an awesome craft idea involving 1000 or so soda can pull-tabs?
I don't even know what this is called...
Aug. 25th, 2005 10:44 amMy friend just moved to Toronto, and i wanted to send him some pictures. I only have a couple but I wanted to make a small collage, and then do a frame with maybe some maps of winnipeg and toronto applied to it and maybe a couple of pictures of Winnipeg landmarks (our city) or something. I am not exactly sure how to do this, and what the best type of frame to use is. I have done it once before with okie results, but I want this to look really good. Does anyone have any tips or even know what I am talking about?
Thanks in advance!

Aug. 25th, 2005 11:18 amFirst post, new member. I love crafting! Everything I wear has buttons sewn on it.

I'm a lurker, though I've always had the intention of posting something soon, and by God, today will be the day! So. Here are some things I made quite recently:

It's a Mario-themed wooden box. I made it myself from a plank of wood, which is why it's crooked and uneven. (It is.) If you look closely, you will even find several nails hanging out! It's not the greatest, but the whole process of making it had been incredibly fun.

I haven't posted in awhile ..

How to make metallic scratch-board.
It's pretty simple, but quite fun.
You'll need these items:
--metallic board (sold in craft stores, or use those left-over Christmas boxes.. YAY! recycling!!)
--oil pastels or crayons
--india ink (Wal-Mart carries this in the Crafts Dept.)
--a soft paintbrush, about an inch in width
--baby powder
--old newspaper
--scratching utensil (a nail, something pointed, I use a pointy nail file)
--scrap or sketch paper and a pencil
--masking tape
--Sealer spray (gloss, or matte, doesn't matter. It's your preference)
( the rest )
link for more info:
http://www.geocities.com/eternalopal/scratchboard.html
p.s.
did you know you can also use aerosol hairspray as a sealer? Works great! Esp. on chalk or pastels drawings!

Aug. 25th, 2005 04:01 pmnew quilted fabric bag ! :) I don't know about other places but here in North Carolina, Vera Bradley is a very popular designer of these adorable quilted bags. The only thing is that they are super expensive ( for me at least lol) So of course, I decided to make a knock off :) ( Read more... )
Heat-resistant paint for plastic?
Aug. 25th, 2005 04:39 pmSo I have a set of eight plastic (melamine?) plates that I want to decorate.
The plastic is clear, so I'm not worried about the paint being food-safe--I'm just going to paint on the underside and let the colors show through. :)
The plates are microwave and dishwasher safe and I'd love to be able to paint them and still be able to stick them in the wash/microwave. Any suggestions?
Here's an unrelated thing I made so this won't be a text-only post: ( roooar )

My Radiohead bird.
Aug. 25th, 2005 05:16 pmI had a job during this summer. We sold random beach-themed things, like wooden birds. One day, somebody dropped this bird and he was put in storage. Then I found him and decided to paint him.
This took me about four days to paint. I decided to try something.. Radiohead-themed, since I'm a huge Radiohead fan.
I thought that I could turn the famous "Reconstructed Burger" into a bird, but that failed.. miserably.
So I decided to do something a little more difficult.. I chose the Hail To The Thief sleeve artwork. It was fun and all until I got to the end of the page.. and I couldn't do the next page, because it just sucked for a bird.. so I had to do the one after that. =/
He has a design from the second page I started painted on the base/stand.
Anyways, here's Colin. I named him after Radiohead Colin, obviously. ♥
( ... )
He sits proudly next to my TV now. ♥
It's just a bird with a missing beak that I got for free and some paint, really. And Stanley Donwood's work.. *credits the great man* It didn't take so much talent as patience, though.

Nihon bags!
Aug. 25th, 2005 05:17 pmHey everyone! I searched through the Memories but couldn't really find anything to help. My problem is this:
I went to Japan a little over a year ago and am now left with all of the plastic bags I collected from my shopping there. Neat little plastic bags from everything from expensive little boutiques to convenience stores. Now, normally, I wouldn't care about these bags very much, but since they are from Japan they are just so neat!
So I was wondering if anyone knew of some way I could creatively do something with these so that I don't just have a bag of bags laying around forever. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!!

I checked through the memories, and I didn't find anything like this.
Does anyone know of a tutorial for a purse like this? One of my best
friends is moving and I'd like to make something like this for her while
I'm stuck inside because of this hurricane Katrina.

wool roving + desperate shoe question
Aug. 25th, 2005 07:56 pmhi & hello my fellow craftgrrls! :)
i have one thing to show & one desperate shoe question to ask.. but first, i shall start with the crafty-related part of my message because that's what this community is about! :)
i am very excited because this package arrived in my mail yesterday!

dyed wool roving! the colors together only equal an ounce, so not enough to make a hat or anything, but it looks like enough for me to get started in spinning! woohoo! i am just waiting for a drop spindle i ordered to come in the mail (i know, i could've made one, but i didn't feel like running around town with the current gas california gas prices for various supplies when it was only about $5 to buy one).
second, this part is not so crafty really, but i know many of you all have wonderful taste in fashion and there is a slight chance that one of you, somewhere, might own this pair of shoes. i saw them at nordstrom's back in april, and i had called in the store to ask the style name -- which i did get, but somewhere along the weeks, LOST the paper i wrote it down on, and i just called again, and they no longer have it in stock. anyway, the brand is B.P. Shoes and they are these cute, funky little flats.. i just need to know a style name, so i can hopefully find them somewhere else, or at least can call around at different nordstrom's and sound like i know what i want.
( two photos of the shoes behind the cut )
thanks :)

solder or epoxy?
Aug. 25th, 2005 08:13 pmI have a pretty metal pin front and plenty of pin backs (jewelry-style, not button style). Could I get away with attaching the front using epoxy or do I need to use jewelry solder?
Polymer clay for jewelry. Safe?
Aug. 25th, 2005 08:16 pmA while ago someone posted a link about not using Polymer clay for jewelry, it was in response to someone talking about making Plugs out of it. Dose anyone have a link to something like that? Cause i myself make “fake-plug“ Earrings, and i was wondering if this wasn’t safe. Thank you. (sorry for the text only post)

Aug. 25th, 2005 10:46 pmhey there gals :)

I thought they were really neat and thought about giving them a try, but I racked my brain out checkeing the FAQ, and I still can't find it! Can somebody please point me in the right direction? Please tell me i wasn't dreaming...!

Bleach Stencil Madness
Aug. 25th, 2005 11:12 pmMoving on with my arts and craftiness...
I decided to try my hand at stencils.
I bought 3 polos from Jembro (one step above a dollar store) for 3 bucks each.
I found vinyl stick on letters at Pica Pica (a Japanese dollar store).
I had bleach.
I used photoshop to make the stencils.
I used sheet protectors, and a crappy 99 cent blade from Bonsai (another Japanese dollar store) to cut out the stencils.
I chose to do a feminist shirt, a gay shirt, and a Little Prince shirt.
( T-shirt-licious )
