Red horn discs and brass coin stoppers on a leather cord, bone and wood cap beads. Bottle is filled with crushed cinnamon sticks and dried rose petals

Someone saw the work that I did (and posted here as well, earlier,) and asked if I would make something as a commission for them. She said she liked the bottle necklace I made, and preferred earthy tones and reds.

Going off that, I made the above. Her first words upon seeing it were "HOLY SH**!", so I think that means she liked it. :)

I'm all bouncy and happy that someone liked my stuff enough to want to pay me for it, and I thought I'd share the joy.

I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here. How exactly do they make gold images on clothing? Such as this

Is it just done by screen printing with a special kind of ink...or is there another way around that with some sort of gold leaf?

TIA!

Nevermind the mirror making question, looks wayyyy to complicated. I'll stick with yard sales.

I want to make a winter dress out of crushed fabric like this or this. (Especially the second one OMG DROOL.) Not horribly icky panne velvet, nasty cheap stuff often found in cheap Halloween costumes and crappy goth clothing. If you look at the links, you'll be noticing that what I have linked to is QUITE expensive for something I'd need 3-3.5 yards of.
So unless one of you knows where I can get such things for about half the price, I'm thinking I can sort of imitate the effect with some creative dyeing. Thick velvet's a pain to sew with and it's often a hard to dye mix of fibers, so I'm thinking I'll get the cotton velveteen from dharmatrading.com, dye it a lighter base color (wine red or copper/bronze), then scrunch it up tightly on a pole almost shibori-style and spray another darker color of dye over it (black or really dark copper/bronze/brown) to get that crinkly look. Sound like it would work?

Hey, I'm a student here in Dallas and for a Story Telling class I've decided to create a documentary about crafting! So I'm looking for local area (Dallas-area) crafters willing to be filmed, and anyone else willing to contribute words, information, and personal stories! I'm not planning on making just a video documentary, but also maybe a book.

So if you are planning to be in the Dallas area, or you live here any time soon (like before December) I'd love to get you on film with your thoughts about crafting, selling, obstacles in your way, and things of that nature.

Thanks so much!

Alright, I have these really old low rider jeans (Francois Girbaud..HA!) that are just about washed out. Have any of you ever tried to dye jeans? Just wondering if their last strut is over.

I just saw something cool in an outdoors store, but it was 25$! It was a water bottle with paper glued in designs on the outside. My first thought is "I can do that!"

Just one question, it was really shiny on the outside...could it have been covered in Shellac? Does that chip or eat through plastic or anything? Dishwasher safe?

Thanks.

i guess i'm kind of a loser and i like to keep ticket stubs from concerts i go to. i'm looking for a way to maybe display them, but something that i can continue to add to, you know? i used to put them in one of those photo holders where you can clip like 10 in there but then there got to be too many and it kind of looked messy. i don't know if there even is a way to do this but i figured you guys would be the best to ask :-)

just in case anyone wants a picture )

thanks so much

Hi, I'm Julie and I've been lurking for a couple weeks. I love seeing all the creativity and now I have some questions for you lovelies.

Next in my college speech class we have to give "How-to" or Demonstration Speeches. I still have a week to decide on my topic but I was thinking about doing these duct tape roses- thinking it'd be interesting for a broader audience.

So my question is two-fold: 1) have any ideas for topics I could "How-to" for this speech?

and 2) any advice for my poor, pathetic looking duct tape roses? onto the pictures, there are a few )

So if I do go with this idea I will practice making them more and get more supplies and then possibly make a bouquet and put some as accessories (on a pen and like on a barette I can wear during the speech), I know I've only made them a couple times but...

Do any of you have any adivce for me? different methods? or anything, I just think they could be approved upon- I'm just not exactly sure how.

they sort of don't look like roses, like maybe more amaryllis flowers or water lilies but *shrug* duct tape flowers it is then. and any other patterns for duct tape flowers?

so what do you think?

Say I had a pair of pants and I wanted to add some eyelets to them, it'd be done the same way you'd do it on paper, correct? Punch a hole, then set it in place with the tools and such.

I have a pair of jeans I want to tighten around the thighs, but I want to do it in a cooler fashion, by making it corset like, yanno, or like in your shoes, just lace it up, tighten as need be, loose as wanted, lace the laces all cool and such.

I should just set the eyelets where I want/need them, and set them into place, correct? Or what would you suggest.

Whew!

So I made a post last night asking where I could find a product to make gold images onto fabric such as this:

So tonight I went to Michaels and I didn't see any metallic gold silk screen ink, but I did find Createx Pearlizer Airbrush Color in Pearl Satin Gold . It comes in a little tiny bottle like you get acrylic craft paint in, and it sayssss...

Water Based Non-Toxic

Meets ASTM D-4236 Standards

For light and dark colored surfaces

For most fabrics, leather, paper, wood, clay, canvas, etc.

I assume this is the type of paint you put into an airbrush machine, which I can get my hands on if I have to. But, is it possible to use this cheap silk screening method found in this post from this community?

I want to learn how to knit. I have crocheted before, and kind of learned how to knit but want a refrsher and would like to start to knit regularly. I have looked through the memories, and found a few sites to help me but, I can't seem to find a site to explain how to start everything. Anyone set me in the right direction. Thank You!

okay, so i just made my first two stenciled shirts (YAY!) unfortunetly my scanner is broken so i cant post pics, but i had a question
so i made each one a different way, one with a freezer paper and one with a cardboard stencil. i found that the cardboard one was more durable and reusable and such, but it wasnt as presice, since it was only applied with tape and spray adhesive. and the freezer paper one worked really really well, but was a bitch to get off, and wasnt reuseable.
so after all that rambling, my question is:
is there a better way to secure a cardboard stencil to a t-shirt
or is there a more sturdy reusable type of freezer paper?

ps i love everybodys fabulous crafts on here, you girls are all so MAHVOLOUS DAHLING!

pss TIP: one should always wait for the textile adhesive overcoat to DRY before proceding to peel off the stencil, cuz otherwise it will peel all of the adhesive off cuz textile adhesive hates me. (thats just my theory :)
