So I'm presenting my art portfolio to some folks at the WAG (winnipeg art gallery) tomorrow night. My art teacher gave me this plain green binder to put all my pictures and reflections in and i thought this needs to be made my own. Hence, I made a binder covering, which in itself is an art project. I call it "love & sunshine".

I started working on a new scarf yesterday. It was supposed to be just an exercise in learning to change colors the right way, but I think I really like it as something that might be wearable.

Is anyone else astounded at the sheer volume of "Scrapbooking Queens" on that show?

It's so silly, but I can't help but watch. I go on day long "That's Clever"/"Crafters Coast to Coast" marathons. DVR, wee. I just wait untill there's something.. actually clever on it.

Hello,

I was going to post something craft business related here (not a sales post) but I remembered that there was a community for craftgrrls and other selling DIY folk to discuss business-y issues.

But for the life of me, I can't remember the name of it or find it in my searches. Ideas? Thanks!

( Edit -- definitely not looking to sell things -- there is a list in this community info for that, but the question is here: in my personal journal for those that need clarification. )

So I decided to finally get off my arse and post some craftiness....

Hi all-just found out about a cool dog Halloween party and I want to take my dogs! I have one costume-my dog is going to be a spy. My other dog-a big guy, about 60 pounds-what can he be? It's got to be something easy and quick-the party is this Saturday! Sorry for text only, but I need your crafty help!
Ok-I've got 2 ideas-one is a wolf in sheep's clothing. The body of the sheep is easy enough, but how to make the head? Or my other idea is a dinosaur-green fabric with spots maybe, and cardboard spikes. Which sounds better?

Ok, my sad, sad sewing machine(a singer stylist, born in 1971) is having a really rough time lately. I was hoping maybe you all could give me some insight on how to make him feel better.

Here's the problem: I'll be sewing along just fine, when suddenly the thread frays and comes flying out of the needle.

My attempts to fix:
-new needle(at least 5 times)
-cleaning the bobbin dungeon
-different(higher and lower) quality thread
-new bobbin
-sewing slower
-sewing faster
-giving it a rest(maybe its just tired??)
-re-threading a number of times, making sure I wasn't missing anything
-having pals try it, to see if it was something strange I was doing
-calling Momma crying that I don't know what else to try(she suggested all the things I'd already tried, I know its bad when it stumps my mum!)

Look how sad!! )

Any ideas??

*Update*
I have talked to the girl who was making copies of my bag and she was happy to remove them from her site and assured me she would not make more copies. Please do not send her emails ~ I feel like this is resolved. I do appreciate all of the great suggestions I got from everyone and will definently save the comments if I need to do anything in the future.

Here is the original post )

I spent all extra minutes of classtime working on this, its great how no one minds! I followed the pattern for Marnie MacLean's "Happy Hat", with a little variation of my own (no st stitch on the purple, I like the contrast;) ). I love this hat to death, it is going to be a staple this winter!

I'm going to participate in a craft fair next month and I plan on making little promo packs filled with cards, flyers, buttons and stickers to hand out with purchases. Would anyone like to submit some of their promo stuff? I love supporting other indie businesses and craftsters! If you're interested, please email me at pinklittlebird(@)gmail.com! If you'd like for me to send you some back, just let me know!

I haven't posted in here in a long time but I thought I would today. I have a craft fair on Saturday and I have been working on some simple acrylic beanies to sell. I'm trying to use up a lot of my acrylic before I go thru and get rid of it all. I also made a friend an elf hat that I was pretty happy with.
You can see pics here

I have also been working on a monkey hat for a customer, hopefully pics will be on the way.

I got this felt from the store today i am going to make two project with it.

I wanna make a elphant to put on my pursue. Would it hurt if used a hot glue gun to do so?

My second is has anyone made a felt purse. I found this cute white with hearts all over felt. I wanna make a purse. I thought of like sewing two pieces together and making a starp. Would that be a good idea or not. If so what would be a better idea?

HELP!

Hey! I'm new to this community and I have a little question.

I am having a HELLISH time finding the faux fur I want for a Halloween wolf costume (I'm going as little red riding hood). I'm looking for something medium to dark brown and long/shaggyish. I've tried Joann, Hart's, etc. but they didn't have anything that worked. I've found some online, but much of it seems WAY overpriced. The fabric doesn't need to be good quality or anything - and I'd like to pay $20/yd at MOST (does that sound crazy?).

If you know anywhere to get what I'm looking for (stores, online, a friend) PLEASE let me know. This is my last obstacle for the costume!

I decided to SEW scarves instead! I did them in a patchwork sort of style - I love mixing and matching weird fabrics together to create something harmonious. As usual - I used vintage kimono fabric for all of these. I'm in love with the red and pink one - pity South Florida doesn't really have scarf wearing weather :/

Pink and Red Scarf (this is pink on one side and red on the other - not two different scarves):

sorry for the text only entry, but i have a question for my fellow crafters!!

i have a base metal casting in an oval shape with raised edges. i'd like to put a picture or photograph inside and then fill it with a type of resin for strength. the only problem is that the casting doesn't have a bale on it and i'd like to wear it as a pendant.

has anyone ever drilled through resin (or some sort of resin based glue like aryldite) paper AND metal before at the same time? if so, what sort of drill bit was used and how powerful was it??

was poking about ms. martha's website tonight and found a pattern for a felt cover for an mp3 player (the sample's definitely an ipod). thought i'd share a link to it as the template is a good one.
http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=channel920024

and along a similar vein...i stumbled across a cool pattern for a "skin" type sticker cover for ipods too. very cool idea. i love her templates. http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwooddesigns/ipodcover.htm

ok, after the patchwork stealing, it brought up something that I have a question about now. is anyone ever able to sell things made from patterns? I make beaded flowers. many times, I've altered the patterns to make the flowers smaller since my place isn't that big. I've sold maybe 2 or 3 of the flowers I've made (I usually give them to my mom or give them out as gifts) for people who have seen them and asked me to make them for them. is this illegal? I have so many pattern books from different countries, I don't remember where I get half of them. plus, some of the patterns in different books by different people are the same. I've yet to make any two that are alike, and since it's just me and I work full time and about to also be a full time student as well, I'm not able to mass produce items. I'm just hoping to cover costs of them and make some extra money for tuition. is this illegal? some older mascot pattern books I picked up in hong kong, all you have are pages, who can you credit if it's just a picture and a bead map? what's illegal to sell and what isn't? most people either aren't able to make the items with the pattern or just don't have the time or patience, so they ask for them to be made. there was one woman selling items at saks when I worked there, and she was talking about people ripping off her designs, but all she did was use italian beading methods and standard patterns that I've seen in books from the 40s (before she was even born) and one of the patterns was even in martha stewart's wedding magazine from that month, but this woman was mass producing the items with a team of people in various cities. I'm confused. I don't want to be sued by anyone for using patterns and people wanting to buy things I make. what can I do?

*^_^*

Well... I have been busy lately :P A few days ago I made a kimono fabric and bead necklace that I posted here. I enjoyed making it so much I made a gazillion more. Okay...7 more...not a gazillion. But it is close enough :P

I decided to experiment a little...using the same concept as the last one I made - but different styles. I am more than happy with how these turned out!

I haven't posted in FOREVER... I've been commenting, but not really doing a lot of crafting (I added some panels to my homecoming dress, which you will see after I take pics ON homecoming) but in the past few days, I've gone crazy with the beading.

only two pieces of jewelry, but trust me, it's nuts )
