Converting photos to paint by numbers?
May. 17th, 2006 01:29 amI was curious, about 2 years ago there was a Trading Spaces boys vs girls episode I watched from my sofa when the remote control was too far away.
They took photos of animals and converted them to paint by numbers canvases and then painted them. i've always been seriously curious how this worked and would be extremely pleased to find out. It's been on my mind for this long, I thought I would pose the question here.
Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

May. 17th, 2006 09:37 amI have a bunch of pickle jars-
anyone have any craft ideas?
Also, if I watered down acrylic paint, would it give a stained glass efect on the jars? Or would water color be better?
I don't want to go out and buy 'faux stained glass' paint, because I have a lot of watercolor and acrylic around already... :)

Yoga Mat Bag
May. 17th, 2006 12:35 pmI recently decided to crochet a bag for my yoga mat. I thought you guys might find this helpful, because I searched the internet and
craftgrrl for some directions, but couldn't find much. Most of the patterns are for sewn bags, and I found a couple for knit bags, which I didn't like. This one, from Knitty, is really pretty but I was too thick. My mat is pink, and I wanted to be able to see it through the stitches. I also found this one, but I don't like the way it looks.
This is my first crochet project. It took one skein of Joann's worsted weight yarn, which cost me $2. The cord is also from Joann's and was $3 for three yards. I used a combination of single, double and triple crochet. I like the bag because it's very lightweight and simple, not bulky like the knit bags I found.

( More details )
Hope you guys like it! I'm pretty satisfied. :) At this point, I'm still considering embroidering something on the side.

Well after being inspired by
tealeaf_sales and
stolenmilkcrate, I'm learning to work with polymer clay and I made these this weekend! Everything is still pretty rough, but I'm learning.
I'm going to put another coat of future floor polish (which smells remarkable good and citrus-y for floor polish) on the pig, cow, and penguin and make them into jewelry. The crazy pig and cow are going to go on a cell phone lanyard and the penguins will be earrings. I can't wait to wear them!
On a whole, the painting ain't as good as it could be, but I was working with some old acrylics I found in the back of my closet...so they were kind of wonky and I didn't have the proper materials for blending and such. Now that I know I like it, I might invest a little more money in the future.

Adding some flare?
May. 17th, 2006 01:44 pmHey there, I am a newbie here. I have a question about adding decorations to leather products. I recently just bought a black leather mp3 player case (only kind I could find for it, sadly) and I am trying to think of a way to jazz it up a bit. At first I was thinking of an iron on patch, but then I was wondering about applying fabric pate to the leather--just painting the entire thing in a transparent glitter. Would that work on leather? Plus, could I enamel leather as well, just to make whatever I do last longer? If you have any other suggestions on how to jazz it up, please feel free to say so!

Help! with paint removal
May. 17th, 2006 03:05 pmHelp! I'm stenciling a shirt for a friend, and I got fabric paint where I didn't want to! I tried using soapy water, alcohol, and Oxyclean. What can I do to get it out? Obviously, I can just cover it with another stencil, but I really don't want to do that if there are any other options. Thank you.
I wish to make tea cups and such from sugar. It stems from a conversation I was holding involving Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (origional) and I am now obligated to make sugar teacups akin to the flower Willy Wonka drinks from and then eats. I would prefer if I could eat this, but if anyone has ANY suggetion how to keep the sugar hard, together, and keep its shape that would be wonderful!
not a very nice new girl
May. 17th, 2006 08:29 pm
maddy
people often smile at maddy and say to her, "my what a pretty dress!" and maddy always smiles back, sometimes she even makes a very well-to-do curtsy with the pretty skirt of her pretty dress. such a nice girl, the people always think - not knowing she snitched her dress from the orphans' donation box on the corner of crabapple and duke streets, replacing it with a bit of wet newspaper and an old felt slipper.
[ingrediants: sculpy, paint, bits of ribbon, hair, wire and other odds and ends.]

May. 17th, 2006 11:15 pmSorry this isn't directly realted but in a round about way it is. I have an interview at Jo-anne fabric this coming Saturday & I'm curious to know if any of you fellow crafters work (or have worked) there & if you could give me a clue as to what the interview questions will be like & if you have any tips for me to hopefully nab the job. This is also the first job I've ever applied for so I'm a bit nervous.
Shrinking plastic straight pins
May. 17th, 2006 11:46 pmI saw a tutorial for combining shrinking plastic with straight pins and I just happened to have saved a #6 plastic container so I gave it a shot.
