I've been on a major brooch kick lately - they're just so fun and make every jacket or sweater look way more awesome!

Hey there. I am interested in making the birth announcements for my son. He isn't due until 9/4, but I would like to get a start on them...I am just not sure as to design them. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

This is my first post. I'm mostly a knitter, but recently I've been playing around with making jewelry after the stitch marker making craze. I figured I already had all the supplies, so I might as well use it!

Anyway, here are my meager offerings, please be kind, as I am VERY new to this whole jewelry making thing!

Oh, and please excuse my crappy photography skills! I had to take the pictures of them on me, because they looked like crap any other way!

I didn't want to work on any huge projects today being I'm not feeling all that great so I came up with this stuff.

White vinyl cuff with heart cut outs and pink and red glitter vinyl under the cut outs.

More stuff this way.. )

Hello 52 Things Folks!  I just love that the idea ganked from ReadyMade has taken off in this community.  I love how [profile] gldvxx, [profile] sin_da_rella, [profile] haudauxilium, [profile] saintgem and others have taken the original idea and run with it.   The modified playing cards, images,  ribbon binding, and ball chain binding are all fabulous!!!

A few folks have asked how I put mine together, so I thought I'd type up some tips.   First, some have been unable to locate the directions on ReadyMade, so here's a stab at explaining.  I took 5 playing cards and glued them together for one cover (the entire book took 10, math..heh.)  I marked out where the holes should go and punched all of them, using the first card as a template.  It's much easier to punch first, then glue, unless you have freakishly strong hands - or a drill press.  I used silicone adhesive from the hardware store, which has become a crafting staple for me.

sailor skirt

Every lady sailor needs something when she pulls into a new port. What better to wear while tossing back rum and getting the French disease from some dirty pirate than this awesome wrap skirt?!

Much to my boyfriend's dismay, every time I wear this, I make awful "walk the plank jokes" and keep running up behind him and shouting "aaarrrgg!"

My boyfriend's 26th birthday is coming up in about a month and a half. Most of his friend's girlfriends have thrown their boyfriends a party and I want to do the same, since my boyfriend has never really done anything special for his birthday before.

I know I want to bake him a cake but can't find any good cake ideas for guys that don't involve fishing/golf/plaid shirts.

I kinda dig this frog: http://www.debbiebrownscakes.co.uk/50_easy_party_cakes/pages/friendly_frog_jpg.htm

but I would like to have options. He is into sushi/computers/Guinness beer/goofy kid-like things.

Any other ideas or themes that would be good for a guy?

Help!

I'm looking for a pattern for a hooded pullover, or concise instructions for drafting and integrating a hood into an existing pattern.

"Hoodies", which were all the rage a few years back, seem to have fallen out of fashion, right when I need to make one. I currently do not own a single "hooded" item of clothing from which to draft a pattern.

I'm looking to make something sort of fitted, out of stretch black lace.

Help!

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help ..
I'm going to make a tote bag for my friends birthday out of this sailor moon fabric (she loves sailor moon!) but I don't know what to do to make it "special"?

I was thinking of embroidering a label with a message/poem on the inside, but I have no idea what else to do .. I just don't want it to look too tacky/basic if that makes sense :/
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

so i've been working on this necklace all night and i am at a loss as to what to do with it. it doesn't look quite right to me yet. so far it has no clasp of any sort, and it's made up of three strands -- two green and one yellow. what do you think? any ideas? i like it, i just feel like it could be better!

here's a (kind of crappy, sorry) pic:

i think i'm going to try and braid it or twist it better so that the yellow strand mixes more with the two greens, it's just hard to do that sans clasp.

i'm new to knitting (again, haha) and i made this bracelet:
(click to make them bigger)

i'm not trying to sell it here. i do, however, have an etsy shop, and i'd like to sell them in the future if i can make them look decent. any tips on how to make these better? i like the ties, because that makes them adjustable, but some people would rather have them not be adjustable, and so they'd have to be stretchy. whenever i cast off, the last row is SUPERSUPER tight and makes that curve like in the first picture. is there another way to cast off?

also, how much would something like this go for?

i plan to make many, in different colors (red, green, yellow, purple, etc) with the different buttons and things.

anyone who has ever wanted to knit should do it! find a friend, a patch of grass, and enjoy the sunshine while you learn! it's so fun!

bobbie pins

What would be the best way to attatch something like this, felt or fabric cut-outs, onto a bobbie pin, hat pin, etc? I was thinking hotglue, but that may come undone easily? Any suggestions?
