I'm moving into my first apartment come September and will be taking a not-so-lovely sleep sofa with me. It's a simple shape- but too simple for a ready made slipcover, it's odd but pretty plain. Anyway! I've watched enough trading spaces in my day to recall them just throwing a sheet over the couch, pinning it all around, sewing where they pinned, turning it right-side-out, and slipping it on. Is it as easy as they make it look or is there a better way to do this? I have this idea in my head, that I can make the "seat" just a flap (with velcro around loose edges) and then cover the cushions individually so it's easy to access the bed.
Any comments, suggestions?

I have a big knitted square of red wool and I wanted to make a felted red purse out of it but before doing anything I had a few questions...

1) Should I sew it in its "purse" form before felting it?

2) Should I attach the handles before or after the felting (I'm thinking before because then the handles would be like very securly felted into the purse)...

I was going to wet felt it btw, like in a washing machine.

Also does anyone know if they sell felting needles/colored wool at Michaels or Joanns?

All help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, and a quick question about beading, I'm hoping someone knows....is beadwire strong enough to be used for necklaces? I hae a really thin beadwire, which I originally bought to make necklaces (not realizing that it's usually used to WRAP beads). I'm just not sure it's strong enough?

Thank you!

birdie illustration screenprinted onto cream card stock
letters 'MEEP' rubber-stamped individually

it took me two attempts to get this one right because i tried to use the blue screen and (eek!) it caused my image to be underexposed and i screwed 2 good bulbs + 1 good screen. :( apart from that, i think i should stick to my Steadtler 2B pencils instead of some shanghai-china sea lion ones. :p

I'm having some bracelet confusion.

I bought beads, leather string, a clasp and "fastener" (like the ones pictured below), and small ring.

Obviously, I don't know the technical names of any of the pieces, but that's not what I'm wondering.

I'm wondering how to attach the string to the clasp and "fastener".

Thanks!

I've been making some cute felt animal badges but now I could use some advice.

I want to make some cute little snails - they are flat badges viewed from the side profile, but how can i make the antennae??  I thought of pipecleaners but they will bend out of shape. Wire would be ok, but because I'm handsewing them how do I make it stay in place? Could I make a wire out line of the whole snail shape and then stick the antennae out???

Help!!!  I would love to use felt but it won't stay firm....

[Mods, feel free to delete this, I just have no idea where else to post this]

I'm looking into attending school for fashion design (Specifically, fashion illustration), and I'm currently looking at schools now, 'round the country.
Now, when I apply, do I need to have some sort of portfolio already made? Or is that something that I'll make as I'm at school..?

[EDIT!}
Thank you so much everyone who has taken the time and patience to answer my question, seriously, it's a lot of help to me. If i could, I would make you all cookies. ^_^

okay I'm making a cosplay outfit for otakon and I need flat plain silver buttons... I wasn't able to find them but I found what I need in gold. I can paint them silver but the surface is too smooth even after sanding it a bit so the paint scratched off. Anyone have any ideas? would it work if I put modpodge over top of it? thank you so much for any help you can give!

Hi everyone, this is my first post to this community and I wanted to share this project turned out very sucessfully. I collect greetings cards with art I like, as well as business cards of course, and made the following item to put them on them on my wall. ("What? What's corkboard?")

Someone asked about Japanese craft books, so I've uploaded photos of my books. I've also included ISBN and what I paid for them (reference for people trying to find copies on ebay, alibiris and abe.)

I have to say, I'm quite proud of this. It's really of no use for me, but I'm still learning how to make lined totes and this was a trial. It's kinda small, but not too small. Holds quite a bit of stuff, but I think my next project will be a lot bigger with inside pockets. I'm using this one to hold my makeup.

Pics behind here to be nice:

Everyone here's seen the skirt thing done to death. Saddened by the fact that a lovely pair of parasuco jeans were about 3 sizes too small for her, my sister was walking around with them draped around her shoulders. In a moment of inspiration on her part, she said "make me a halter top out of these" ... some brainstorming ensued, and a short while later, the final product is revealed...

Hey, I was doing some cleaning and found a nice sonia kashuk eyeshadow container, which is empty.

It's about 2x1" and it has a small mirror in it. It's totally matte chrome. It's like a very very small cigarette case. The depth is very shallow, like 1/4". It has two compartments (brush/shadow) and it's empty. Is there anything obvious I can do with it? I thought about decoupaging some PMS non-PC stuff on the outside and maybe using it to carry around advil?

Any other ideas?

I check the Altoids Tin memories with no luck. I don't have that much space, but it's such a cute container, it would be a shame to toss it out.

My BF has a show at the local Six Flags and has several female assistants - 2 of them are close friends, as well.
I bought a few little things for them and decided to dress up the gift bags a bit.

Hey everyone,
I found this basket thing hanging around and for some reason i love it. Its a bit worn down and dad's not enjoying the worn away white paint. I have a feeling that if i don't change the colour and make it lok brand spanking new, he'll throw it one day when i'm away. I was thinking of going with black base colour and gold dispersed on it but thought i should ask for better ideas before i attack it

Anyone want to help me out? More pics here )

thanks in advance =)

I need help!

I am moving into a new house, and have my very own bedroom to make really pretty. I am sick of the color blue, because everything I own is blue/turquoise. I have a printed quilt, and was wondering, if I could just sew fabric over it? If so, how would i go about doing it? I want to cover it in just black cotton fabric, and then sew on more chunks to make it look like a giant iPod. I have never quilted, I am alright at sewing...but, have never taken on a project so big! Any suggestions would be great.

Also, does anyone know where I can get relatively cheap canvas to paint on? If you have any ideas for interior decorating (besides what is in the memories, I checked ;) That would be fantastic!!! (I am thinking a really busy room, with lots of graffitti, collages, lights, color...) Thanks!

Thanks for any help!

Hello!!

I was wondering if some folks might post some of their crafty lj icons?? I was trying to find some earlier, but it was hard to find good ones.  I thought here might be the best place to look .

here are some of my own (non-crafty) icons i made just for myself :)

MODS: Can we have an entry in the memories for crafty icons??

I made 2 necklaces for my BF's 2 assistants/friends - one butterfly and one snowflake each. I made the snowflakes because David ends his show by making it snow.

Gee... I spent hours (seriously) on this but I finally managed to get it done after several times of unstitching it and re-sewing it. I was very frustrated as I didn't think it would be as difficult to make. I was determined to get it done no matter how long I had to keep fussing with it. Well...Here's the finish product....
