I've never been all that great at making jewelry, but I like how this bracelet turned out. It's not much, really, just beads on line, but it's a start, I guess. See picture... )

So, I posted a week or two ago asking for suggestions for fabric stores in NYC. I got a couple suggestions, a few of which I tried out. Then my roommate suggested a place to me yesterday and I checked it out and saw that it's pretty much amazing, so I thought I'd share in case anyone is looking for basics and wants them super cheap. It's called Save-a-thon and it's on 3rd ave between 105-106th. And the best part (aside from zippers 2 for $1) is that it's only a couple blocks from my apartment!

I have a couple new things I've made recently that I've been meaning to post pictures of, but I don't actually have any pictures of them yet. Sorry for the text only, but I just wanted to share this with anyone else from the area who wants cheap stuff. I was excited about it because I was annoyed at the prospect of paying $9/yard for printed cotton to make bags out of...

I am making my new baby girl's announcements and had planned on displaying her birth stats (time, weight, length, etc.) on little (1.5" x .5") strips of vellum paper, one stat per strip, five strips total and then arranging the vellum strips to look like a flower, a silver brad serving as the middle of the flower... if you're still with me, thanks.

Okay, so I've printed and cut the strips... but after arranging one group as planned, it doesn't look like I had hoped and I don't like it.

So... what can I do with five strips of pink vellum, each saying a birth stat? I have a few different materials to work with and am willing to try just about anything.

How can I use what I've got (vellum strips) in this birth announcement now? By the way, the announcement is made of black paper and I've got about 4x6 inches to work with.

Here's hopin'! Thanks.

p.s. I am very willing to "scrap the flower idea;" Thanks to everyone who's given advice so far... I'm trying them on. Oh, and also, the strips are all just about the same size .5x1.5" each.

My friend has already thought of a Halloween costume she wants to make.

Shes been looking for a pattern she could use for a Harley Quinn costume. I've been looking around myself, and I haven't found anything good. So I was wondering if any of you girls have any ideas. Thanks in advance! =]

The bf and I spent the day in Salem, MA last Tuesday (my monthly "take the day off to play hookey" adventure) and, as usual, I collected flotsam throughout the day.
While I was at work during the following days, I got the great idea to display the little things that had made the day special to us.

Thanks for taking a peek and let me know what you think!

I just want to show off; I've finally finished the nursery curtains I'd been planning since the winter Olympics.

Edited to add a close up shot!

Now that i've graduated, I actually have time to do costuming/crafting! Hooray! So what did I do first? Made robes for my friend's LARP character- Lord Sithius Reddlyn, Knight of Courage of the Silver Rose.

Hey everyone!

I am teaching 4 separate 3 hour sessions of kids crafts next month, and I am looking for some idea's.

The supplies should be cheap, and preferably not involve paper (we encourage people to buy from the fabric store I teach at, and we don't sell paper!).

I am thinking to have 1 or 2 crafts per session to fill the 3 hours, for kids 5 & up.

I have looked up a few idea's, but it's hard to find stuff not involving paper.

I though ya'll might have some great idea's. Thanks so much!
