Jul. 10th, 2006 12:58 amHello denizens of Craftiland. :D I come bearing tentacle critters.
Yesterday in a fit of boredom I decided that I needed to raise octopuses, squids, and jellyfish. ....Then I realized that I would probably kill them within the first 5 minutes (delicate critters, you see). ...That and I'm terrified of touching them. :D
( So I did this instead. )
And then today in another fit of boredom (sup, funemployment) I needed to make more jellyfish.
( They're very cuddly. )
And why not. Let's throw this in too.
( Cosplay geekery. )
Thanks for looking :D

New design sketches
Jul. 10th, 2006 01:27 amI've posted several new design sketches to my Butterfly Rose Creations LJ Gallery, of works-to-be from my Silver Leaves Collection. They can be found here and here...and I'll leave most of them there, because they are a bit image-heavy, even for sticking behind an LJ-cut. (Unless I'm asked to put them all here, in which case I'll merrily inundate you.)
Here is a preview, however, of one of them:

I'm so excited to be able to work on pieces like this, for someone! You'd think it would satisfy all my creative itchiness, but nooooo...my brain has to start swirling with even more potential coordinating pretties, like headpieces and belts and....AI YA! Do any of you have that problem -- your artsy-mind just refusing to leave things be? It can't just be me.

Jul. 10th, 2006 01:43 amI'm at Clemson Univeristy in South Carolina doing a math research job over the summer. One of my professors is interested in origami, and he showed me a book that taught me how to make buckyballs. They're colored in such a way that each vertex has all three colors, and the same colors never touch. You do that with a Hamiltonian cycle, since there are three edges at each vertex.
The problem that I'm working on involves hypercubes (you can make a cube out of two squares. You can make a 4-cube out of two cubes in the same way--that's a hypercube), so I built a model of one.
Neither of them are too fancy (or well-made), but I'm excited to be crafty and mathy all at once. :D

Jul. 10th, 2006 09:20 ama while ago i saw somebody post in the

i bought felt sheets off of ebay because i thought i could felt my dreads that way, but maybe i was mistaken.
this is how she said she did it:

There are many different kinds of felting. Pretty much felting is just the process of making wool fibre into fabric. Usually people wet felt, soften it, and then rubbed it together. This creates the wool to become combined into fabric.
I did mine by dry felting. To dry felt you buy some wool felt:

Then you get a felting needle and lay the dread ontop of a foam pad and stab the felt through the dread repeatedly until it combine with the dreadlock.
am i just out of luck with my felt sheets? or is there a way to turn it into batting?

Jul. 10th, 2006 01:27 pmSo I want to make my boyfriend a coupon book of stuff. I have a couple of ideas but I want it to look really nice. Has anyone done it before? What "coupons" did you put in it? Here's a couple of ideas I have for it.
1: Help with cleaning for one full day
2: Lunch on me
3: A movie, on me
ETA: IF you've made one what did you use? Do you have pictures?

I've looked over the memories, but this question hasn't come up. Any help would be appreciated.
I have some brass stampings that I want to use as molds for casting resin. Is even this possible? Will I be able to pop the finished object out after it's cured or will it adhere to the inside of the stamping? I read about a mold release, but it mentioned being only for latex. I'm wondering if the brass stamping will be able to withstand the resin. Has anybody tried something liek this?
Also, this will be my first time working with resin, so any tips &hints would be greatly appreciated.

I have a really neat project to do for my appreciation calss. We had to make a mask of our face and make it into art that represent something about us. My original idea was to write letters to my friends, telling them things I never would and than mosh posh the letters on to the mask. So I tried that it turned out awful. So now I'm trying a different approach. I'm going to put the mask on a canvas and make a collage of my letters and some of my drawings and things like that around the mask. So I was wondering if anyone had pictures of any REALLY COOl collages they have done in the past to give me an idea how to get started on the collage part.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Things I've been doing
Jul. 10th, 2006 06:27 pmI've recently made a pair of earings, an apliqué to a bag and two necklaces.

I'm quite happy with all of them, what do you think? :-)

Stuff to make flexible molds from?
Jul. 10th, 2006 08:01 pmHi everyone,
I'm looking to get back into working with polymer and silver clay, and I'm looking for some material to make molds from. I've got the Mold Builder liquid latex rubber stuff for use with resins, etc, but it's not quite what I want for this project, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
I know that Sculpey makes an Elasticlay MoldMaker product, but I've only seen it in one place and it's a bit expensive. Has anyone seen it at Michael's, where I might at least be able to use the 40% off coupon? I looked briefly last time, but I didn't see it there- I don't know if that's just because I'm in Canada or what...
I'm also interested in those silicone mold things where you mix two compounds together and you have a few seconds to minutes before it sets, but I haven't seen it locally. I've done a few searches online, but I haven't been able to find quite what I'm looking for (plus a lot of places charge an arm and a leg to ship to Canada). Has anyone had any experience using these silicone molds, and would you be able to recommend a brand/where to get them?
Thanks!

removing acrylic paint off of walls?
Jul. 10th, 2006 11:57 pmi'm sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a way to remove acrylic paints from walls? i don't think i should paint over it with another color, since the acrylic is opaque and can show through. i made quite a lot of mistakes by dabbing all over my walls, and it's kinda embarrassing when people come over and see it, haha. ^^;; is there also a way to remove permanent marker as well?
please help and much thanks! ^____^
