So I finally veered away from pants-to-purse purses and made my very first purse from scratch. It's of course a messenger bag, because those are my favorite and it's slouchy so it clings nicely to my hip.
Anyway, so here's the front )

and in the bag )

woo.

Does anyone know of a reliable place online to buy quilling paper?

I'm looking for something fairly wide (5/8 in or larger) in separate colors (I don't want an assortment pack unless it's holiday colors). Google has not been my friend so far. :(

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! :)

a really good friend of mine recently passed away, and i've taken to wearing her necklace all the time. if its not on my neck, then its on my wrist...and what with the heat we've been having, it's gotten pretty dirty. she was allergic to any synthetic metals, so i'm almost 100% certain the chain is silver...its just a simple chain with a little celtic knot pendant.

i would really like to clean it, but being beyond broke, i googled to see if i could do it at home. there are various sites that advocate dousing silver jewellery with baking soda and pouring boiling water over it and after a few minutes it should be shiny and clean again...but i'm hesitant to try this on something this valuable to me, and i have no other silver jewellery.

so i thought i'd ask if any of you have tried this....and if so, did it work without any long term side effects?

thanks so much for any and all of your help!

EDIT: Thank you all SO much for your help! i did the simmering in foil thing that *goldkiwi* suggested and it worked like a charm..it made me incredibly happy! thanks again!

A friend of mine is getting ready to move to Florida and live on her own for the first time. She's a terrible cook....or at least doesn't really know how to cook. I wanted to make her a cookbook of recipes that I've used in the past that are kind of easy for a beginner. Does anyone have any suggestions on the type of book I should make (as far as how I should actually construct it)? I wanted to make something that would be easy for her to add her own recipes to...

Thanks!

I just found this com a few days ago and I've been commenting so I figured I should introduce myself and all. :) My name is Angie, I'm forty-two (well, forty-three next month) and I'm in Long Beach. My grandmother taught me to knit when I was three and I've been doing some sort of needlework ever since. I've picked up a bunch of techniques along the way because I like learning new things, and although I'm pretty good at a few things I'm not really expert in any one thing. I knit and crochet, do various types of embroidery and lace techniques and I've done some sewing, although I'm considerably heavier [cough] than I was last time I sewed anything and I probably won't do any more until I get back at least within spitting distance of a size sixteen. I'm the sort of person who always has twenty different WIPs lying around and hardly ever finishes anything. [wry smile]

These are the three pieces I've worked on the most recently, meaning they're the most likely to be completed some time in the next decade.

This was my first attempt with any sort of cane, I recently started getting into polymer clay. I found the instructions here. Anyhoo despite their lumpyness I love them!

Hey, fellow craftspeople!
I have a couple of questions for you (especially for the ones with webshops) which I hope you can answer!
SO I was thinking that I would REALLY like to set up my own internet shop for selling assorted craftsy things however I have no idea how to go about this. How do I even GET my own URL? Or.. thing.. server? (I really have no idea what I'm talking about..) I think it would help me most to hear steps others took to creating, designing, and advertising their own online stores, if that would be at all possible.
I hope there are some who understand what I'm asking!
Help would be appreciated!

PS: I've heard that "Shopping Baskets" are best for internet shops. How would I set this up as well?

I made a pacman necklace for my son last night. He has been thrilled with it! I still need to paint it but he insisted on wearing around tonight :)
