heyyy. i absolutely love this community, you guys are brilliant!

anyways, i had a question. my best friend's birthday is coming up. he is a good writer. he writes a lot of songs, and he wants to write a novel someday. so, i thought i would buy him a blank hardcover book [with tons of pages!]. i know they're out there, but i can't seem to find them.

where is the best place to look for something like this?
also, any other cute ideas for something like this? i was thinking of getting a little box and putting a bunch of pens and stuff like that in there.

thank you loves. ♥

sooo like the tard that i am i forgot to wash the brush i was painting the screen filler onto my silk screen. i was wondering if anyone knew of anything that would clean that off (besides the "grease lightning" speedball recommends on the back). i have items in my household including turpentine, petroleum jelly, rubbing alcohol........?!

EDIT: i washed the brush in super hot water. it worked. (the speedball manual says when rinsing out drawing fluid not to use HOT water, so i figured it might deteriorate the screen filler..... AND I WAS RITE!)

I am customizing a dollie and I need some help! I promise to post pictures when I am done.

What type of paint can I use on pvc/rubber? I do not want it to looked cracked or anything.

Also is there something I can use to get rid of the paint already on there, like her makeup?

Thanks so much for any help!

I made this for my husband's secretary for her birthday a couple of years ago. She loves her dog, Ben, so much that she brings him to work with her every Friday. He is her child, since she's not married or anything. Now that I look at the pics again, it is a little Over The Top. But, she loved it, I think.

maybe if you love dogs, too )

Does anyone have experience making raglan-sleeved shirts from ones that were not originally?
I started with two enormous shirts, one from giving blood and one from my sister's university, and made an attempt to put raglan sleeves onto the re-sized blood shirt...this is the pretty wonky result.

something I made for a co-worker...she's always losing her glasses.  Hopefully she likes it.  Edited to fix picture, hopefully...

this time it's from the craftster "boy-girl" swap where we swap with partners of the opposite sex. since my partner has two quotes about how boys have been knitting since ancient egypt, there's where i took my inspiration from for my favorite project of all!

so i ask you...

So I was looking through fabricdepot.com and found these.  They're those lighted knitting needles that everyone was talking about a few days ago.  I thought they were sort-of expensive until I found these, which aren't so bad.

I don't think I'll be getting some any time soon because I'm a novice knitter.

Sorry, sorry, sorry! I'm the idiot who posted the ad for the purse... you're right, should've checked the community rules. I deleted it, I won't be stupid enough to do it again.. sorry!

(By the way, if you can't tell, I'm new to LiveJournal... I just didn't know the rules, sorry!)

Ok, first time posting to lj at all! I made this guitar strap as a bday present. I pretty much quilted the fabric first then sewed it into the right shape. I had to cut the plastic pieces off of a bag I bought at Walmart. The ends are a little messy but I think she'll still like it!

I hope this is right! )

Okie, so I've had a sewing machine for years...it's a nice little Brother from Walmart that my mother got me for my birthday one year. The problem there being is that I don't know how to sew...at all. I mean. I've kinda fooled around a bit with some things but that's about it. So, I was wondering if there was any books out there that were especially helpful for those of us who need to see in order to know what to do. I mean, I really can't just read and be like, 'oh, I know how to do that now.' I really need some visuals. So if anyone knows any really good books, that'd be wonderful if you could let me know what they are! If it helps, I'm looking to start making purses/messenger bags/laptop bags, etc for myself and my friends.

and just to prove how teh suck I am at this...
a really bad picture... )

*sigh* so I dragged the old beast off the shelf this afternoon for what I hoped would be a quick little project (and adorable, too!), but four hours later, I still haven't managed a single stitch... Massive sewing machine misbehavior has ruined all my plans (inluding dinner...)!

To catch the eye and tempt the helpful response, here's a cute but unrelated photo for you -- I replaced the logo on a suitcase with a tiny eyeball monster:

And now, to the heart of the problem --

a Tragic Tale of Woe is right this way... )

I recently learned how to chrochet, so I tried to make a purse. The edge got really slanty because I kept dropping stitches, but I think it made it look cool. Chenille yarn is really fast to knit and I love it. Oh, and I'd like if you would give me your opinion on the yellow button. I can't tell if I like it or not.

I have two white parasols, white lace- not plastic lace.. but more of a fabric type of lace.

anyway.. due to... kittens mistaking them for a litter box.

they are.. BADLY stained, the white will never be white again.

Any tips on dyeing them a very deep and pur black? without also dying the wooden top tip and wooden handles?

also on setting the dye.

i think this is pretty easy so i'm not going to bother buying a pattern. how would i go about making a gathered front on a shirt (like this: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4517.htm?tab=tops_vests&page=3)? in my costume class some people had to do those for leotards and i remember there being something with elastic. could anyone explain please?

I need help understanding row 4 of this knitting pattern on this webpage.
I don't think I quite understand what they mean by "under" and "above same thread". And also I have no clue on what to do with the loops. Thanks for your help in advance.
