This is a wedding gift for a friend... it's done just in time. I ended up just tying it instead of really quilting it, which wasn't my intention, but my sewing machine got all finicky on me and I was running late. I don't really know if I like it, in the end. It's just not exactly how I pictured it, but there it is, so, so done.

I saw this pattern in the new Craftster book of kitschy stuff (that's not really what it's called, but I can't remember) and absolutely had to make him immediately! My fiance` thinks he's creepy, how he just sits there and watches him pee, but it's not a problem for me :)

Alright, pictures!

I found a few shots of a previous craft to tide you over until I get a functioning camera. You are overjoyed, I'm sure!

Nostalgia-induced foray into paper dolls loosely based on the japanese UFO catcher dolls. Designs are original characters from a friend's webcomic. Alas, two years later they are still naked. The square-bodied boys don't even have hair yet!

this isn't exactly a crafting question but i thought that you guys might know...

i have an elaborate halloween snow globe (that plays the alfred hitchcock theme song and has bats rather than snow)
the problem is that somehow dust has gotten into the water.
can i take this thing to anyone to have it cleaned out?

oh, and i'm in the middle of painting something so i'll have a picture to post soon enough

thanks!

Has anyone tried that transfer method with terpantine or whatever it's called. Someone posted a link a few weeks ago to some site and one of the tutorials was transfering printed images to fabric

EDIT: This was the original page I was referring to if anyone cares.

We're down to one week before the big Art in the Park show.

I've been looking around for something to use as displays and I found two suitcases (that match our business cards & hangtags quite nicely) and some wooden bowls. All for about $13. Woohoo! :)

Anyway, and here's part of my plan, and a question. I'm sanding the bowls and painting the insides, like this, and now I need to seal them. These are just going to be used to display things, so I basically just need something that will keep the paint from chipping off, and maybe make it a little shiny.
Here's the painted bowl, for reference:

And just for fun, here are the thrifty goodies, all together!

And here's a better picture of the bowls ) They're all different sizes, and some are oval and some are kind of a squared flower shape.

Alright...time for me to get back to work!

P.S. Someone from here asked to be added to my personal account, but they left their request in anonymous mode, so I don't know who it is! Feel free to message me again, whoever you are! :)

ok, i've spent a lot of time with the tutorials in the memories section, but i have one quick question about bookbinding:

what do you all use to make the holes in the signatures when using the coptic stitch?

most of the tutorials say an awl... but the awl i have can only be used on the edges of a piece of paper, not the center, and the tutorials say to lay the signature flat when cutting holes. thusly, i am confused. i suppose i could leave them folded and use the awl halfway, but i thought i'd ask, in case i was missing something obvious.

thanks!

Hi. I recently bought about ten pounds of assorted vintage buttons and I'm hoping to Ebay them but I know that I'd probably get a lot more if I know how to tell which ones are bakelite, since those are worth more. I was wondering if anyone has some advice? I Google'd a bit and the only things I saw mentioned were to use 409 and Scrubbing Bubbles. Supposedly if you rub the button with a q-tip coated in either of those and it turns yellow, it's bakelite. The problem is, I don't use any sort of chemical cleaners in my home because they make me sick. So I'm wondering if there is any other way to identify them. It also seems like celluloid is really popular. Any tips on identifying those?

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

I really enjoy making these, and I think this one turned out really pretty. I used purple wire with lavender pearlized glass bead chips, and crocheted them all together. I'm hooked on wire!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
that is how i felt when I got my "new" Singer sewing machine....
this is how i feel now.... GGGGRRRRRRRRRR
becasue i just got the dang thing my first sewing machine ever I have never even been this close ot one before... lol.
and it doesnt work.
so I have my nabore comeover to help me out to teach me how to thread it he took a clas in high school I didnt. so we have it almost all the way threaded but he doesnt know how to do the bottom part becasue he has always used self soemthing or others. and mine is a really old machine, so we try to run the thing. it wont. we take all the casings off. no luck seeing what the problem is.. so he leaves and I take off the hand crank thing and put it back on make it really tight and hand turn it the needle goes up and down for the first time. I think wooohoo I fixed it. so I plug it back in. Nope now it wont move. so now I can make it tight enough to get the needle to go up and down by hand but when I lossen in enough for the moter to start turning it the needle wont go up and down.
so my Question is... could this have happen in the mail or did I get sent a non-working machine. I got the incerence so the post office has to pay for it right? it only cost me 25 on ebay for this thing but it cost me 58 for shipping. its a all metal machine. and does anyone know a way I can fix it?
Also does anyone know if there is anything I can do to get all my money back including shipping (on Ebay) if it did get sent like this? grrrr.
or even does any one know what is wrong with it that may be a easy fix?
Edit-
from the seller
If all that was broken it sounds like it must have been droped. Please call them and file a claim. They will then contact me. See if you can get an amount of what it will cost to fix it. It was in great working condition when it left here. They will need the original box and packing. Please let me know what is going on. Thank you.

I think she is right i am sure she is telling the truth the pic's tell alot(from the listing). well it looks like I have to go though the post office to get this fixed. I will see if they will pay what it cost to get it fixed right after I go to the post office on monday I will take it to a repair shop... ok the only repair shop on Guam. That will be fun I dont even want to know how much they will over charge.
Hey may as well ask. Anyone here from or on Guam?

If this is off topic, feel free to delete. I am looking for a resource for needlework patterns. Specifically the type that were really popular back in the '30's, '40's and '50's. I mean the type that were done onto tea towells, quilts, pillowcases....you get the idea.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Hope you like my efforts. Sorry there's so many pics I just wanted to show off a little :P

so i posted a day or two ago the cd covers that i made for a swap. i finally finished my cd case for said cd's to go into.. but i made my case into a pirates theme :) so far i left both insides of the cover blank because i'm at a loss of what i should do to fill the void. any ideas? leave as is? i figure my partner could use the case for other cd's since grey's/california are random themes for pirates.. so i printed up the track lists and they're just going to be loose in the case.

Quick question... I'm making a shirt for a friend, and the plan is to write something like "Bill Nye Staff" or something along those lines on the top of the back of it. I'm not sure which process to use for it to look the most authentic. Most shirts I make I just use 3D fabric paint, but I want this to be nice and clean and block-y. Ideas? Also, any ideas for graphic designs for t-shirts would be muuuch appreciated. I've never been much of an artist, unfortunately :(.
