I'm not sure how this related to crafting, but it can be deleted if it has no relevance. ^^;

I got this gigantic stuffed dog animal for my birthday a few years ago, and I admit, I haven't washed it once because I didn't know how to. It won't fit in my washing machine, I don't want to take it apart, wash it, then piece it back together, etc. Febreze doesn't seem to be having any effect on cleaning it, either. Is there some cleaning method that can take care of this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know where I can find a dragon quilt pattern for really cheap, or even free? I would like to make my boyfriend a quilt with a dragon on it for his birthday (or Christmas, if I don't get it done in time!)

I'm also considering just making my own pattern instead of buying one. Does anyone have any tips for making your own quilting pattern?

All these crafts are making me drool...

I'd love to break into sewing, but I have no idea where to begin. Soo, here's what I've been able to accomplish----

Shirt I made for a friend, which Kristy (girlx512) posted in 2004, and I fell in love with. I wish wish wish I desinged it myself. Aaand bottle cap earings for the alcoholic in all of us.

I just wanted to thank you all for all of the blankie ideas I got yesterday. We made a decision on what to do with Granky. We went and purchased a similar blanket, the Kuddle-Up Supreme Thermal Baby Blanket in white online as a replacement blanket and I'm going to make a pillow out of the old and tattered blanket. Someone told me about Sulky Solvy, it's this sticky solvent that holds fabric together so I can fold the blankie up into a square/rectangle shape, do all of my stitching, and then throw it in the washer. The Sulky will act as tape while I sew and then will dissolve in the wash. I'm going to make it so that Granky is on one side of the pillow and some sort of car fabric is on the other side of the pillow. This way James will have a new Granky that he can carry around and an original Granky pillow to sleep with. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions!

i need some help from those of you with experience in selling art that requires framing--photographers, painters even, and especially those who work in mixed media collage or other word art. actually, even those of you who like to buy those types of art could probably help as well...

ledthrowies
i ´m not sure if some of these have been posted before.
they´re called led-throwies. i don´t know who came up with the idea but i think it´s great (despite the fact that i am not sure if i like the idea of throwing batteries around...hmm).

how to make & what to do with them? )

I came across this site today. Soooo easy to do ourselves. Some of theirs are hideous and some are cute, but the prices are prohibitive in my opinion. They're intended to be clipped to strapless bras to keep them from slipping, as they inevitably do.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to raise money to take a trip with my boyfriend to South-East Asia. We'll be leaving in April next year, so we don't have a lot of time. I've been crafting as a casual hobby. I was thinking of maybe trying to sell in craft shows, at work and through friends:

a) jewelry. I already have lots of beads and people have often commented on my or my boyfriend's creations.

b) pins. I don't yet have a pin machine, so I would have to buy it and all the material. My boyfriend and I would create our own designs for the pins.

c) A happy combination of both.

I don't expect to pay for my whole trip with this, but do you think we would make enough money to make it worthwile the time and effort? Would the pin making machine end up being a lost?

Thanks in advance for all your advice.

Update: I knew you guys would give good advice! Thank you. We will not be buying the pin machine, but instead try to find out if a friend will lend it to us or if we can rent one. I'll probably be posting the results soon. :)

Magnets

I made a batch of marble magnets last night, only to discover that about half of them don't work. As in, they aren't magnetized and won't stick to my fridge. Does anyone know of a product that I could put on the magnet to make it work? I was thinking of magnetized paint, but do they sell that in small bottles (only about 30 need fixin') at craft stores or something? I'd rather not stick another magnet on there because that won't look as good.

Here are a couple of pictures of my latest embroidery. I started it on Saturday evening and just finished it, and it's one of the most ambitious things I've made yet. Every single little dot you see on it was embroidered individually by hand. I might be some kind of masochist, but I think it looks fantastic. I'm very, very happy with it. Not sure what to do with it as yet, but I'm sure something will occur to me soon.

This skirt is one of my favourites but I spilt bleach on it, and it's made of linen so dyeing it was not an option. I embroidered over the bleach marks in black to try and make them a bit less obvious.

Inspired by Bleedman’s most recent work “The Grim Tales from Down Below” I had a sudden creative streak to make a plushie out of the cutest character Mini Mandy. My favorite page (Talent) of the comic so far is where Mini Mandy is dressed as a ballerina playing Roman Dirge’s Lenore for the Lenore Musical. So I decided to make her in that costume.

Does anyone know how to get ridd of some of that extra fuzz that is on things you have knitted after you are finished with them? Is there a way to block them that gets rid of it? Is is jut because I am too rough on my knitting? Is it the fiber content (obviously the case with cotton because it doesn't fuzz or pill as much). What do you suggest?

Crafty trashcan
I was looking at my brand new, metal-mesh trashcan and said to myself, "plastic canvas!" I wove a simple argyle pattern with some extra yarn I had laying around. I'll probably think of something better later. Maybe stitch on some sort of flower (cherry blossoms?) made out of felt. Oh the possibilities!

Long-time lurker, then long time inert member to lurk minus the effort of clicking on a bookmark every day. Haha, so lazy!

Text-only! I am currently having some camera issues (i.e. don't have one that is more useful than a paperweight), but I'm hoping I can afford a new one in a month or so.

Questions:

Any suggestions for sealing Sculpey? I'm talking something absolutely waterproof that won't break down, as said sculpey item will (idealy) be completely submerged forever and ever. Will the usual suspects work? Varnish? Triple Thick glaze? I'm just not sure what will stand up to water 24/7 until the end of days.

I've seen "name on rice" jewelry and charms and things, but what exactly IS the "magnifying oil" everyone talks about being in the little vial that preserves the rice?

Thank you and good night!
