Where is your favorite place to get prints made of your art?
(some place you have ordered from before, not just seen cheap prices listed)

I am looking to get only a few printed at a time ~ good quality, cheap price.
But feel free to suggest a large printer as well, since others can use this knowledge.

I am also wondering if it would look ok to get it done at a photo place,
on matte 8.5 x 11 paper (or other sizes) ~ is this is a really bad idea?

Any advice or suggestions are welcome! ;)

Hi, I've loved this community for a long time, but this is the first time I've gotten up the guts to post.

This is a stuffed animal I've made that I call a Dreamy Hybrid. I've made five different ones, and this is the fifth.

This little gal thinks she's part turkey and part cat, making her a turkat, but she's not sure, and neither am I!

I don't use patterns or a sewing machine (because I don't have one), so she's made with needle, thread, felt, lots of embellishments and lots of love!

Can anyone recommend some beginner sewing communities that they like? I hate to post my first attempts here since they'll be less than spectacular, and I thought maybe I could pick up some tips and tricks there as well. Thank you!

X-posted to Craftster quilting and charitable/social craft boards:

On the Craftster swap boards there was discussion of an Irwin themed swap; the conversation then led to the idea of having the crafty fans of Steve Irwin make quilt blocks to form a remembrance quilt that would then be shipped to his zoo. Would anyone be interested in making a square, or even better- be willing to piece and quilt the project? I'll be more than happy to do all of the organizing and getting people to sign up, but I'm horrible at actually piecing/quilting. Anyone interested would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much.

So I'm thinking about making a lamp out of this star shape basket but  I don't have a shade for it and I think I'm completely confused on what to do with the items I have. I wanna spray paint the basket black and then maybe make/buy a lampshade with little stars on it or something to that nature. So here's the question anyone got an idea as to how to make a lampshade?

Also any tips on how to make a basket out of these items:

Does anyone know how to make shrink dink rings? Can it be done? Apparently you can make napkin rings - so I guess it would be like that only smaller? Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch!

I took in some of my old jeans )for the straight legged deal. But now I've got some kind of runched effect. It's all bumpy in awkward places. It's perfect when I put them on, but when I sit and get up the material gets bunched together.

Did I make an error in sewing? What can I do to fix this? I'd appreciate any tips/advice you can offer. I plan to wear 'em tomorrow if everything goes right!

Alright all you crafty peoples, I've got a question for you. Yes, I've searched the FAQ's, but nothing with the exact amount or ratios was present, so I give this question out to you.

I'm planning on hollowing out a book, I have the book I want to use, all my tools, my glue, utility knife, everything, except...

How do I know how much water to add to the glue? Is there a certain amount I should be using (is there a good ratio that will make the pages not get that watered down look, but not get crinkly like glue does)?

Thanks for your help, and sorry this is text only.

Once I get pictures up I will post pictures of my DS Lite cover that I made. :)

Thanks again,
Jeni

In addition to my LJ being a delve into my life after the age of 21, I started a scrapbook from my 21st birthday. These are the first three events in it. I have four pages alotted for my vacation, but I haven't had the time (or inclination) to look through all of my pictures to make those pages.

Though I really like the types of pages that are very open and have a lot of space, my main reason for scrapping is to include as many photos as possible. I'll probably start allowing more pages for events that have more photos, like I should have done with my birthday page, but for now, I actually like the fulness of these pages, and though they may look cluttered to others, there's a definite organizational theme apparent to me :)

so say one wanted to pour resin....but not in molds...and wanted to be able to peel it off to use for decoration on other crafts....could that work? specifically with envirotex? i know its made to pour on stuff and stick...so i'm a little befuddled as to how to make it NOT stick.

i dont want to pour it in molds, so there goes that idea...i want to be able to draw letters and stuff...could i spray mold release on something and do it?

I have a sweater that's a bit too big, and quite honestly a little frumpy... I LOVE LOVE LOVE it though... and I want to make it look better by fitting it a little... So, If I wanted to cut a section of a sweater with a wider weave, could I do that? If so, how? I do a lot of other sewing and crafting, but the art of making sweaters eludes me. I'd love to think that I could just pin a taper, stitch it, and surge the edges...like I would with fabric... but this sweater I'd like to change is just too darn expensive to mess with if it's not going to be done right, y'know?

Here's a pic of the sweater:

Hey crafty folks,

I live in the middle of nowhere. Not really, but it's an island and we have no good craft stores nearby at all. The closest thing is a Wal-Mart 30 miles away and their craft selection seriously sucks. The next closest is probably a good hour drive. Not like that's forever, but what I was hoping is to see if anyone had a favorite all purpose craft website that they order from.

I've used Joann.com and done OK, but I'm just checking to see if I'm missing any other fabulous crafty site. I'm all covered for knitting/crochet supplies, as I use Knitpicks.com, but I'm looking for general craft products.

Thanks in advance!

My grandmother had a black forrest cuckoo clock that my mother got when she died. It no longer works and is beyond repair and after several years as a decorative peice on our living room wall my mother wants to get a working clock of her own from Germany. She couldn't bring herself to just throw it away and was going to burn it until I threw a fit. She gave it to me on the promise of reinventing various parts of it and I have several fabulous ideas for all those little gears that are going to come out of the inside.

The problem is that my grandmother smoked like a chimney stack and the poor clock is probably coated in tar. Except for the scenic "frame" on the front, the wood doesn't matter to me and will probably be tossed, but is there a way to clean the metal bits (gears, chain, pine cone weights)?

text only! I shall dig up photos of another craft tonight to make up for it!

My latest project has been a series of knit bags. I have quite a variety of colour combinations.
These knit sacs are really multi-purpose, which makes them so useful. It can be used for an ipod cozy, a sunglasses case, a change purse, makeup kit, emergency mitten...and more! My latest use is using the bag, for a wrist pad for the keyboard and mouse.

Does anyone know anything about model casting? I think I'm going to cast some flowers in resin for my project and i've only ever worked with pre-made moulds before, this time I'm going to be casting things that I've made in cernit...
Links/books would be great!

Google won't help me today, and my brain is out for dinner, so I'll try here :)

I want to make some kind of toy soldiers with 4-year olds in a kindergarten, but I can't find any guides. The closest I came was a christmas ornament made of fabric, but that one was too hard for 4-year olds.

It can be any (kids friendly) material, any size... Just not a recipe for older children, and NOT something as simple as toilet paper rolls - something in between. Also, guides on how to make things for the soldier(s) are more than welcome (weapons, parachutes etc.)

Thanks! :D

I just finished the first of 3 table centerpieces for my wedding.

I used:

-Branch from a redbud tree.
-Square vase from Michaels.
-Natural colored 2" skeleton leaves from Creative Papers Online
-Strands of fake pearls from Hobby Lobby bridal section.
-hot glue (for pearls and gluing the flowers to the branch) and an extra strength glue stick (for gluing the leaves themselves together).

4 photos, thumbnailed )

I still haven't decided what to fill the vase with.

I have a TON left to do with my floral arrangements. This is a fall wedding and I'm making my bouquet and everything with those skeleton leaves and dried flowers. One month to go!
