I don't post here, but I enjoy reading the posts. Now there's a project that I hope that some of you crafty people would be willing to pitch in on. There's an organization in the town were I grew up, called Save the Children. They are a really good organization that is dedicated to helping children in the US and throughout the world. They are not affiliated with any specific church or government.

The purpose of the project is to reduce the mortality rate of newborn infants throughout the world.  Save the Children is asking craftspeople to donate infant-sized hats they have knitted or crocheted by January of 2007.  For this project, called Caps to the Capital, Save the Children is collecting these hats. In January of 2007, they will take the hats to the President of the United States where they will show them as an example of a low-cost, effective, means of reducing newborn deaths.  After the meeting, they will send the hats to areas of the world where a warm hat is one of the simple things needed to help a newborn infant survive its first few days of life.

There is more information, and also some hat patterns, in the  Caps to the Capital Action Kit (.pdf file).

I finished my bridesmaids’ jewelry and finally got a picture of it! I am really happy with how it turned out and I think it will look great with their dresses! I really hope that they like their jewelry. All of the pieces were made with raspberry round pearls and coin pearls and all metal components are sterling silver.

MIRIAM, LESLIE, BRANDY, CINDY, BETHANNE - DON'T LOOK!

Seriously... no peeking!

it's been forever and a day since i posted here!

my boyfriend and i were involved in a production of Dames at Sea and he put himself in charge of the gift for the director(s). he had the cast meet up in front of the USS Midway with their sailor hats and we took some nice photos. in addition to making the big collage frames for the directors, we made these little frames for each cast member:

(my boyfriend's the one kneeling in the front!)

it's not much, and it's not terribly clever, but i'm proud of it. i used the 4x6 frames from IKEA and painted them (i made 9 total). i used stickers for the words and included gold stars because some of the characters in the show were in the navy. i used the triple thick glaze sealant spray to finish them. they were a big hit and i thought they came out pretty cute!

I haven't made a lot lately but I sat down today and made a bracelet out of some stuff I just bought. What do you think?

Annnnnd yet another question: I bought some satin cord for a necklace I had planned out. The cord says 2mm. I got some clamshell bead tips, the largest I could find, and they say they're 8mm. However, obviously to those who make jewelry regularly, the cord is under no circumstances small enough to fit through the clamshell. Um...help? How do I finish this necklace? I couldn't afford the crimp tool to use crimp beads and I don't know how to attach the clasp without having clamshells on the end. Most crafts I can pick up immediately and figure them out but jewelry seems to befuddle me.

Somewhat craft related, because if i can't fix this, I'll have to make a new clock . . haha I didn't know where else to ask . .Google was no help. You guys are always great at answers.

I have a clock question, for the clock specialists out there.

The second hand on my clock ticks, but it stays in place, so the hour and minute hands don't move. It ticks in time, but gets stuck until I hit it, goes a little, then gets stuck again. Help??

Do I have to put a new clock piece in it? Thank you so much!

Hi. I'm going to be buying a Dr. Don 1" button maker soon to start making buttons but I'm really at a loss for what to do regarding a printer and printer paper. Do any of you do button-making professionally? I want them to be really high-quality because I plan to have them in an online shop. Any thoughts? My printer budget is about $200-300. I'm also hoping to use this printer to print stationery so any thoughts on that would be helpful as well. From what I've read, it doesn't seem like a good idea to try to do your own prints from home, but I was thinking maybe stationery would be do-able on a good printer.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
