I found This website while looking for something else. I figured with everyone in here always what they can do with old things laying around, it would be a great source.

There are alot of cute ideas on the site.... and it's a great way to recycle the crafty way! :)

Help?

I know I'm a newb and I was waiting until I'd finished my first project to post anything but this is semi-pressing. Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for a bustier like this one from Metamorphose? I need it as soon as possible, since I waited until the last minute to finish my Halloween costume. Failing that, how can I make this or a similiar pattern myself? Thanks in advance for any help.

my friend saw the star burst shoes i made
as well as the bags that i showed previously (atleast i think i did)
and she wanted some of her own.
since she didnt fit a size 6.5
she brought me a pair of black heels that she said needed basically a "face lift"
so i worked my magic
and created these beauts
as well as a star wars themed bag with pieces left from my boyfriend's birthday quilt
(yay for many uses of fabric. and i have more :D
and ultimatly, she made an order of all star related items

So here is the table runner I made for my aunt Steph and Uncle Ed. They have a 6' 2" long table, so this table runner is pretty close to 10 feet long. It took FOREVER to make.

I wanted to make the day of the dead white chocolate sugar skulls (as seen in BUST) for Halloween, but was not ready to shell out $20 for the molds. So I decided to make sugar (cookie) skulls instead. I used a generic cookie dough from the cake aisle, and even though I wasn't too concerned about taste, they were actually yummy too! I couldn't find a cookie cutter in a skull shape so I made my own pattern and cut around it.

Some stuff

Here are some pics of some stuff that I've done in the past couple of days. It's not really great, but I'm kinda teaching myself, so I just make stuff up as I go along.  I haven't been making many necklaces in the past, cause they never turn out like I picture them, but then I got a bead board, and so I've actually made a couple that I like!

So I used Knit Pro to make a knit pattern, except the image is 33squares across and 64 high. I need my image to fit in 25 squares across or less. How can I fix this, or is there another program?

Craft wiki

I'm thinking about putting together a craft wiki (you can read what a wiki is on the biggest one of them all- wikipedia).

I see it being a community-driven, perminant place for instructions on techniques, patterns, and tutorials, but NOT a place to post pictures of finished projects or to discuss ongoing crafts (I suggest Craftster for that).

I'm trying to gage the level of interest before I plunk down the time and bucks to get one started. Would anyone be interested? (suggestions for a name would also be appreciated. I'm stuck)

Yesterday morning my fiance told me we were invited to a Halloween party that evening. Since we were going somewhere in the afternoon as well I had about 3 hours to run around town to get things to pull a costume together.
So what did I go as?
I hope you can tell )

(X-posted in [livejournal.com profile] sew_hip.)

This Halloween, I decided to dress as Veruca Salt. I wanted to make a giant Golden Egg as an accessory, but it wasn't working out. Luckily, the lovely ladies in [livejournal.com profile] sew_hip gave me some great ideas. I loved the idea of a Wonka purse. So I ran out and got supplies on Friday, and whipped this together. It took me five hours to make. I'm really happy with how it came out. Really, really happy.

It's MY bar of chocolate. )

Hey there. I have a 6 week old son and I am just learning to sew. I have made him a hat, working on a pair of overalls and will be starting a patchwork blanket. I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas that wouldn't be so difficult? Also, I am looking to make him some ornaments. I will be painting some cermamic ones, but any othr ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

I'm looking to get a sewing machine and an iron so I can start making purses and I was wondering if I could get some advice. I have an Amazon gift card so I'd really like to find both on Amazon. I always thought an iron was ten bucks and they were all the same but I get on Amazon and there's a billion of them and some of them almost cost more than my car. I have a lot of vintage fabrics that are in desperate need of an ironing and I don't want to ruin them with a crappy iron. Any advice?

As for a sewing machine, I'm new to sewing so I'd like to find something easy to use but also durable and able to sew through thick fabrics. I've heard that it's best to get one with all metal parts instead of plastic so if someone could recommend one like that that I can also get on Amazon that would be really very appreciated. I could also go to Target to get it. Basically, my credit card earns free points that you can use to get gift cards and I don't have the money to put out on a sewing machine right now, so I have to be able to get it (and the iron) at a place I can get a gift card for. As far as I can tell, Amazon or Target or Kmart are my only options. Thank you in advance for any and all help.

I want to start out with a tote bag so I bought some fabric and some fusible interfacing. Now I just need the iron and the sewing machine. I think.

So I went as "Snakes on a plane" this year. Went to a concert last night where everyone was dressed up. There were some really great costumes. But I incorporated the boys in the band who played that night (they're the other passengers in the plane windows). I got a ton of compliments and I was the only one dressed from that movie so I'm happy with it. I especially love my duct tape skirt :)

pumpkin!

i carved my pumpkin today. i used to have a kitty named pumpkin... well... that's neither here nor there but makes this even slightly more fitting. although the cat on the pumpkin is really meant to be a siamese. i do love the mese's.

pic #1 - unlit
pic #2 - lit up

i'm really happy with how it came out! i drew the pic freehand but did basically copy it from some clipart. then, i carved out the design (but not all the way through, which made it possible to do something relatively intricate). the trick was to scrape the inside of the pumpkin out REALLY GOOD behind the design so the light could actually come through. thanks to the person who posted a pumpkin with this technique recently!

Man Bag??

Oct. 29th, 2006 09:28 pm
[identity profile] havain.livejournal.com
so this really good friend of mine asked me a while ago to make him a man bag.
my idea was to make a messenger bag perhaps? only im afraid it will come out kind of girly, since ive only made purses.
so an suggestions? patterns? anything?
oh and he wants it to be leather, ive never seen leather around the fabric stores i go to, but then again im not really looking for it. so where would sell leather or even like a micro suede type thing, or anything like that, it doesnt have to be real.

please and thank you!

I've been trying to find a way to produce a professional looking CD from home that isn't ridiculously complicated. I figured that I may be able to just screen print on the actual CD but I have no clue how effective that would be. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas or advice.

Thank you.

I quickly whipped up a kimono the night before the Japanese Club Halloween event I went to (for my costume). I didn't use a pattern because, well, I'm terrified of them (and also, the pattern for a kimono was over $15, which cost more than all my fabric). Someone on Glitter basically explained how to make a very ultra basic kimono since it is just a "T" shape, so it was easy to make.

Anyway, photo behind the cut. It's the only picture I have from my camera that shows me in the full outfit, and it's a group photo, but I should be easy to find.

+1 image )

Total cost of project: About $12. Three yards of the silky fabric at only $3/yd, 1.5 yards of solid colro fabric for fake obi sash $1/yd, and two yards of a golden rope to tie around at $1/yd. Plus tax/.

There seemed to be a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the idea of putting together a wiki as a central resource for all crafters, so I bought one. It's not very pretty yet and, well, there aren't any articles. But if you'd like to help me get it up and running, you can create a login and start writing!
