I know that we're actually celebrating Halloween this week, but for us crafters, a bunch of us have been working on holiday gifts since July, so for you, I wanted to say this: I just picked up the new Martha Stewart special Holiday edition magazine dedicated to Handmade Gifts, and it was decent. There were a few things that were cute, but not really gift worthy, and a few that seemed silly (like felt slippers... from felt, not felted knitted slippers), but also some tasty jams and soaps and things, and a knitted scarf, and teacup candles, and things that I'd totally make and give. If you're looking for ideas for small inexpensive things, there are quite a few. You might want to check it out.

I wasn't sure if this was really "crafty" but since someone else posted theirs, I feel more confident :p

I've been busy making bracelets since Joann's had a 40% off sale on most of their beads.

I wasn't sure where to look in the memories, so I am going to post my question and maybe you guys could help me out.

Does anybody know how I could sew a broken heart on to a zip up jacket? like each broken pieces on eachside of the zipper.

I hope that makes sense.
Thanx xoxo.

Hi! I have a question. I did look at the memories... but... anyway.

I got this bedside table from IKEA yesterday. It is white, but not the right white... but I have a can of spray paint. I haven't assembled it yet, so could I just spray paint it, let it dry, then put it together? Do I need to sand it first? Seal it? Is there anything else to keep in mind?

Thanks!

Any ideas on a super quick costume I can whip up before tomorrow?
Halloween has come so fast this year, I forgot to plan things out like usual.

I was going to be Madonna circa-1985, but I can't afford a wig and even if I could, I have no ride anywhere to get one and it's much too cold to walk.

I'd prefer something that I don't have to purchase anything for.
I have tons of makeup, and I can sew :]

Maybe something that will work with my black hair or cover it ...

Here's what I look like, if it'll help any.

Thank you all for your kind words about the Zoidberg statue I made my boyfriend for his birthday (http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/9369673.html). He absolutely loves it, and said "WOW!" about a dozen times after he opened it, followed by a "you made this?! it's amazing!" Then he wondered how much he could get for it on eBay, haha.

And just so this isn't a text only post, here are a couple pictures of a table centerpiece I made. We had fall flowers on the table, but they finally died and the table looked quite bare. So I went outside and cut some branches, and then cut a bunch of leaves out of colored felt... I think it looks pretty good!

It also didn't take very long, or very much money (technically it didn't cost me anything, since I already had the felt, but felt is like, what, 25 cents a sheet, so if you had to buy it, it would still be under $1)!

I came across several (cheap!) awesome crocheted afghans at a yard sale recently, and I am trying to figure out how to reuse these items by making dolls or pillows or whatever out of them. I have seen something like this in magazines in the past, but I am having no luck scrounging those up and my web searches so far have not been fruitful.

If anyone has any links or ideas to share about reusing colorful crocheted afghans for other uses, I would be very grateful.

Thank you.

i have a question

does anyone know anything about painting on finished wood? if there is a certain kind of paint i need to use or if i need to put something under the paint first? or if i just go ahead and paint? will the colors still come out the same?

thanks

Has anyone put on a murder mystery party? Tips? I have never done one and I don't really want to spend a ton of money, but I want to do something really original and cool. I just don't know where to even start, because I've never even been to one.

I was super poor this Halloween, and so I crafted from some old crap I had around the house.

And since themes are amazing....

Hey! I am new, but I have been looking at all the awesome crafty communities for ages. My name's Alexis and I'm 14.

This is a dress I made for an Art project. I am not quite sure about it, but my requirements were so specific that I didn't have many choices.

Just a few random things I've finished that I was not  too embarrassed to share with you fine people... I apologize in advance for the excessive use of novelty yarns.

This is a book I'm reconstructing/decorating for an English project intitled "A Journey Into Yourself". I feel like I'm in grade 2, but it's fun. Not nearly completed, but this is the fruits of my first long night of working and I wanted to share it!

A Journey...a VERY pic heavy journey )
