Sporty/Snowboarding Fleece hats & scarves?
Dec. 5th, 2006 12:18 pmCan anyone give me any links to images (or tutorials even) for "sporty" fleece hats and/or scarves?
I just gained two neices through marraige, who I'd like to make a little something for for Christmas. They are 11 and 13, and both are soccer players. I've only met them once or twice, but I'd like to build a relationship with them. They're nice girls, and would probably be polite about anything I made for them, but I know it's a very particular age where things can't be too "grown up" or too "childish", add to that the face that they shouldn't be too "girly" and I'm at a loss.
I'm pretty experienced with fleece, so just a picture that would give me a general idea would do. Unfortunately most of my experience is making kitten hats, and I think that'd probably be not quite right for them. I'm thinking more of sporty/snowboarding type looks.
Thanks in advance. I've tried googling a few things to no avail.

mad at my phone!!
Dec. 5th, 2006 02:27 pmI took a few pics on my phone today and emailed them to myself. Only 1 out of the 3 came thru! :( So here's the one that did. I wanted to show the other ornament I made of a Treble Clef. But for now, you only get the Bass Clef. I saw the sequins in my bead box and went a little nuts on them. hehe but it's so shiny! and shiny = so goooood!!

If you did not see my other post, I made cards for the teachers who wrote college recommendations for me. So here are the completed products.

Also, here is a project I did about a month or so ago.

It's horrible!
Dec. 5th, 2006 08:18 pmHey, I've been lurking here for a while, but I need to know something, so I decided to post.
I have an awesome shirt from Japan with all sorts of metal rivets and chains and zippers on it, but the rivets rusted when I washed it. Now my beautiful white shirt has orange-brown rust stains around all the rivets.
Is there any way to get rid of rust on clothing? It's just a cotton blend fabric, nothing fancy, but there are lots of appliques and fancy black details that I don't want to ruin. Please, I really need suggestions!

I've been off work again today... I had a migraine this morning, but it cleared up later on so I managed to get some crafting done...
I bought a Christmas pressie for my Tigger-mad-Auntie (Paint-your-own-tigger-garden-statue) but figured she isn't very arty, and I am, and I had a day off... so I painted it for her!

The next lot were inspired by a previous poster here, who made some lovely Sculpey Turtles from beer bottle caps... These are for my brother for Christmas and he loved the teenage mutant ninja turtles when we were kids... Thier legs are spread out coz I made 'em into magnets...

Button/pin makers!
Dec. 5th, 2006 09:36 pmNow...I love buttons. My purse is probably semi bullet proof due to the amount of pins on it o.o
So what with x-mas coming up and my mother asking incessantly about what I want....I've asked for a button maker...I'll probably be ordering the thing off the internet since my parent no nothing of button makers
however I have noooooo idea what to get
I want something that would make 1 to 1.5" pins....not in large quantities either...just for me and for gifts...soooo
suggestions?

Stuffed animals!
Dec. 5th, 2006 09:55 pmI am very new to sewing. My grandmother worked in a factory for 20+ years, however, so she is helping me get started and teaching me on her big, nice (if somewhat antiquated) machine.
I found this pattern at a local thrift store:

It was dated 1964, and I thought the animals were super-cute. Since my sister is having a baby in a couple of months, I decided it was time to try these fellas out.
( My first ever sewing/embroidery project )

Does anyone know where I can find this print of fleece?

Sheeps on a pink bkg.
I am so not willing to pay $60 for a large blanket.
Thanks.

t-shirt quilt
Dec. 5th, 2006 10:54 pmI started making a double sided t-shirt quilt for my husband a couple years ago. Halfway through it I decided that making it double sided would be too much of a hassle. So I've just had all these t-shirts cut out, sitting in a box. I decided to make them into a second quilt to give to him for christmas. It's more of a blanket than a quilt because there is no batting, just fleece backing.

embossing vellum?
Dec. 5th, 2006 11:21 pmsooo.... i'm hosting a bridal shower soon and i was farting around with invitation ideas tonight.
i was trying to emboss vellum.
i've never used vellum, and i've never embossed anything anyway, so the whole thing was a hit or miss scenario.
needless to say, i missed it.... by a long shot.
well, i went to joanne's and i bought a "perfect pens" embossing pen, for use with "perfect pearls" pigments. however, the only perfect pearls powder they sold was a pack of a bunch of colors for something like $15. i only need purple, so rather than spending the $15, i thought i'd see if it worked with another brand of powder. so i got "joann craft essentials" embossing powder, in purple. i wrote what i needed to with the pen, then brushed on the powder.. and it brushed right off. it's not sticking to the ink.
so... what am i doing wrong? am i doing something wrong? or is it just the vellum? i was using translucent vellum paper.
long story short, i printed what i needed for the invitations on plain white paper, traced over it on the vellum with a gel-pen, tied the vellum to the card stock with coordinating ribbon, and the finished product is neat enough. just wondering about the embossing....

Dec. 5th, 2006 11:31 pmI'm a Chinese living in Singapore. I will be having my wedding at a hotel where the solemnisation will be done at the hotel poolside deck on Christmas day and will thereafter proceed to the function room for lunch reception.
The problem is that i've dropped by the hotel yesterday to take a look at the function room and realized it's so woody (it's called sandalwood room by the way). I'm thinking of making some cheap and simple craftwork to add some atmosphere into that dull looking room.
Any ideas?
I've bought bottles of wedding bubbles in champagne bottles and tied them with 2 small jingle bill with dark green ribbon.
The ribbon and the colour of the bottlse really go very well.
For my bouquet, I've already plan to just buy 30 stalks of nice flowers tie them up with the floral wire and matching colour ribbons. 1 bouquet can easily set aside USD$50 which i think it's not quite worth it.
Please throw me with ideas on how to decorate the function room. I've thought of cutting out lotsa snowflakes and lay them around. But apparently, snowflakes are suppose to be cool colour but the function room is in warm colour theme.
THANKS LOTS!!!

Christmas Wreaths
Dec. 5th, 2006 11:44 pmSo what do you do when you purchase 1000+ glass ornaments at the end of the season 2005. You save them until 2006 with an idea in your head. You spend about 1.5 hours just sorting the ornaments into baskets according to color. You get this:

( And you turn them into these... )
Here is a link to some directions similar to what I did. http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/crafting/article/0,1789,HGTV_3352_1528992,00.html
I found it after the fact. I did two different type wreaths - some with the wire frames like in the link and some with a green foam ring that I covered in ribbon before using hot glue to attach ornaments. I did not wrap the rings with wire - just lots of hot glue!
Thanks for looking!
