Hi everyone, just found this community last night :) I've just recently gotten into sewing and also crocheting(though not very well haha) and I'm looking for a sewing machine. I'm looking for something that I can start with, meaning I don't want to spend a ton of money on a really good machine when I'm just beginning. So any tips would be greatly appreciated. I hope to be able to post some pictures of the crafty things I will be making soon! Thanks.

We live near a temperate rainforest. It was lovely out on Saturday, so we went for a walk and I took pictures of some jewelry in its natural habitat, with my lovely new pink digital camera! This bracelet is nothing special, but I love how the pic turned out:).

On a sort of related note! I found an amazing new store for jewelry supplies. A salesperson highly recommended a certain kind of beading wire: "SOFT FLEX Beading Wire", Fine (diameter .014 inches). I bought some, but now that I look at it out of the package it looks awfully thin. Has anyone used this? Either way, what are your preferred flexible beading wires? I am looking for something that will not break, and also will not develop "kinks" in it that stay irritatingly bent especially with lightweight beads.

I was in Joann's and on a whim, I checked to see if they had any skull fabric. I was doubtful, since Halloween was months ago. To my surprise, they had many bolts of different skull fabrics! I picked out four and made my knitting needle case with the pattern from Stitch 'N Bitch. In the picture, you'll see that I put my DPNs in there also, until I can make another shorter case for them. So far, they haven't slipped down deep into the pockets. I also cut out a skull from the black and red fabric, and sewed it onto a hat that I made for my son (third pic)

So after trying to plan an event for the last month I am getting things on the roll. I am holding a craft-party or a craft-a-thon. I want people to network and share ideas and stuff. I have a month to make my plans. It will be held at a local 'hip' coffee house with indoor and outdoor setting. I am looking towards a crowed of 50-100! I am hoping people will bring there on projects, that is my main goal...for people to hang out and see what others are doing. I am afraid some people might not get this concept. While i don't have the money to buy extra supplies I thought I might copy some craft how-tos and leave them around so people can get ideas for the next event.
Has anyone ever held an event like this? If so are there any tricks/tips? I have local business and paper support...I am looking to host to a more 'alt' crowed. I know there are more clubs and cirles out in my town (modesto,ca) but for older folk who might not like the fact I have two tone hair and a dozen tattoos...

My last question is there any online sources for punk-y/rock clip art I can use for my flyers? I am thinking of doing the flyers cut n paste old school zine style...

If anyone is in Modesto or the area (ceres, keys, turlock...) hit me up! :)

I'm trying to decide what to do with my Valentines Day roses, and have just spent the last half hour browsing the memories for ideas.  There are some really great suggestions in there, but I haven't found "the one" for me yet.

I thought I'd put out a call to other [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl'ers and find out what everybody else is doing with them.  I'm very limited by the fact that I'm overseas, and need to get them back through customs in 2 weeks time.  Australian customs is very strict about plant matter, and I don't want to take too many risks.  Ordinarily I'd press them and keep them in my journal, but I think that's asking to have it consfiscated.

The rose bead idea from earlier today is probably the best one I've heard - if they do attract attention, I can always say they were bought at a store.  Has anybody else come up with a clever way of preserving roses?

Thanks in advance!

Well, more like ROSA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rosa has been my costume-baby for about a year now, and I finally debuted it at Katsucon (aka an anime convention held in Crystal City every year...go to Katuscon.com if you want to know more)!! :D Friday was my Day of Rosa :D I even got it judged and won Best in Show!!! This is me bragging :P Look at my shiny shiny plaque!

One of the judges was a lady who works as a costume producer/designer for Cirque du Soleil...and she told me to apply and that she'd drop my name and I could get a job with them!!! Like I get to join the circus and make pretty costumes and (get this) GET PAID for it. THIS IS AMAZING. Ahem, anyway...here is my costume! )

Okay, that's all there is! I'll do an actual con report later, but right now I'm just spamming my Rosa costume XD There will probably be more pictures as I find them! I know they're out there somewhere, coz I had a couple impromptu photoshoots with a bunch of people ^_^

So this was completely arrogant and braggish, but I am only sort of abashed :D I apologize if I'm a bit over the top <3

Can you believe that I unexpectedly received a homemade king cake in the mail from her WHILE I was making this? Man, she's awesome! :)

I am fairly proud of this, but I made the mistake of not using a single piece for the back and the foldover.  But it's all trial and error no?  And I'm aware that the foldover's uneven.  I'll have to work on that.    -____-

What kind of stitch should I use to cover up the fabric that's flappy?  I mean near my index finger.  Overlock?
When I'm stitching more than one fabric at once, like 2 at a time, should I increase tension or decrease it?
How do you guys use a sewing machine for stitching velcro?

TIA
I had also made some plushes for my boyfriend for valentine's day but I forgot pictures.  I'll post when I get the chance!

Does anyone have a link to a pattern for a turban, or some tips on how to go about making one?

Well, I would also love to be able to make the gorgeous Prada top Stam is wearing in the photo, but unfortunately I´m to crap a seamstress for something like that...

with the aid of ms paint haha )I have no idea how to properly cut and sew this so the fit is better and not baggy and saggy. I'm guessing that sewing in darts would help, but I honestly have no idea how to do this, and all the websites I'm looking at aren't helping.

can someone help me please??

Hi everyone this is my first time posting here. I have commented a few times and thoroughly enjoyed all the great artisans work that I have seen here. I was hoping to get some input from any of you regarding my designs for the belt buckles for my tour. The cost for the molds alone is $375.00 per buckle so I really need to be sure and after coming here and seeing all your wonderful creations I couldn’t think of a better place to go to for honest critique. I am still working on these four buckles but I think that as far as the actual design they are close to be finished. The *castings* would be in pewter, with raised relief on the front and etched copy on the reverse. The illustration would be colored in, thanks.
