First-time poster! I've only been a member of the community for a few weeks, but I love it here! You all are amazing!

I just finished this cross-stitch last night. It is from a kit, and has guidelines to follow and all, but it was my first time, so give me a break. I woke up one morning over Spring break and said "I want to do a cross-stitch." Odd, because I had never done one before. But I thought it seemed easy enough, and would be a fun thing I could do in a week during my break. So I did! I went to the craft store, bought a little kit, came home, and went to work.

I was looking at this tutorial, and I was just wondering if anyone knows if you can somehow make the spine of the book thinner. I'm working on a project for my Drawing class, and I have a book that would work really well for it, but my project is way too thin for the cover. Any suggestions? If it's completely impossible to make the spine thinner, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to do bookbinding on cardstock, especially any tips on how to sew it together.

I'd really appreciate any help.

hola,

First off, I apologize for the text only post, I haven't been crafting too much lately with getting ready to graduate and all. But on with my question:

I want to make a Jacobs Ladder Wallet (Magic Wallet, what have you)as seen here http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/8874342.html but I can't find anything on the internet in regards to a tutorial, etc. I'm also a little slow when it comes to figuring out how to put things together.

If anyone has any idea where I can get a tute or knows themselves and is willing to share, I would really really appreciate it.

Thanks!

i just got an invitation to a coworker's baby shower. we are not that close, and i don't have much money to spend, but would like to make something simple/cute for her. i don't have much time (its on sunday and i work all day sat) so it has to be quick.
it can involve sewing, or scrapbooking.
i dont know what i am looking for exactly, something cute and fast! you guys always post such awesome stuff, i am hoping to get an idea or inspiration!
thanks!
it's a girl!

a while ago i posted a picture of my first Spindle sock, and i'm proud to report that i've finished the pair! Spindle socks are (at least in my book) handknit socks made entirely from spindle-spun yarn. so yes, i've spun all the yarn you see in these socks myself with my spindle. as a side note, i also dyed the orangey bits myself too.

if you'd like to read more about these socks, you can check them out over here. sock knitting is a great chance to use spindle-spun yarn.

I forgot, AGAIN, to pick up no-fray liquid. I'm trying to put a magnetic purse snap into fabric (wool blend and taffeta) backed by ironed-on interfacing. This is my third trip to the fabric store in which I've forgotten it. I have... resin glue, nailpolish, PVA, modpodge... I could stitch around the slits I need to make...

I just don't have any chance of getting back out to that store for days. :(

I got this from the community info:

Need Gift Ideas?
We cannot keep up with the sheer volume of "what do I get for my ...." questions. The [livejournal.com profile] crafty_gifts community exists to help you with those questions and we ask you to post them there. Thank you.

Yet this type of post is often submitted here and noone mentions the above rule.

So I was wondering, are these posts allowed or not?

This is an idea I had for displaying my earrings for sale that I thought other people could use. Buy some plastic boxes from a dollar store and turn em upside down. Stick the shepherd hooks and post earrings through the holes to neatly display them. You could use the boxes for quick cleanup after your sale as well, sort em out at home later :)

I'm not trying to sell my earrings here btw, I'm hoping that a majority of them will be in new homes tomorrow!

Over the past few months I have been working on creating my Foonie Folk art series. These little foonies are fun to make and they seem to take on a life of their own half-way through the creation process. Once I finish each one, the foonie gets a name and a particular status depending on the 'theme' of the piece eg; Foonie Marvin - 'King of all Things Marvellous'. My foonies are based on fun and having fun, on not being of afraid to show people who you really are, not worrying about what others think, being who you want to be and allowing yourself to be that person even if it is just for a little while.

The name 'Foonie' is a nonsense name made up by me, I was after something a bit quirky and catchy to call this art series of little altered folk. I have also invented a name for the actual art process of creating the Foonie, I like to call this 'foonlage'. See my dictionary definitions below;

foo∙nie - (fōō-nee) n. 1. a fictional character that originates from a vintage portrait. 2. a long forgotten vintage portrait that is given new life to by assuming a new identity through combining various art techniques to the original vintage photograph, the foonie is then appropriately named and given a suitable 'title' once the altering process is complete.

foo∙na∙lage – (fōō-nah-läzh’) n. 1. the artistic process of creating a unique assemblage by combining various elements and techniques in order to alter a vintage portrait, resulting in the creation of a fictional character known as a ‘foonie’. 2. the recycling of a long forgotten vintage photograph creating a new piece of art.

(if you are interested, my lj has more nonsense words relating to my Foonies in this post here)

Yay for my second post! My first post was the one about the shoes I painted (which still don't fit me right). So I spent like... all of the money I earned (*cough*) on beading supplies. P1500 didn't get me much but it's enough to start with. I've been busy lately and my hands are already SO SORE from trying to learn how to knit and how to make stuff. Anyway, This is what turned out after a lot of fighting with pliers and wire and beads and colors. Rawr! Oh, and I can only make simple things as of now. Haha, err. Starting out, lack of supplies, and I do tend to make simple stuff most of the time. Haha. I can't wrap my mind around complex designs just yet.
