Ok. So. Me=Lurker, sort of. I do comment, so I guess I'm more of a participant. I just haven't taken picts of my work much. But onto the reason for my post.

I have a deliema and I need your help. It seems simple, and yet its not really.

I had a simple goal. I wanted neon/brightly colored plastic magazine bins for rather cheap. I mean the ones that look like THIS )

What I'm going to get instead, b/c it's WAAAAY cheaper is
THIS )
So, my delema is such.

I'm settling, and i'm ok w/ that, but those things....are UGLY. SO I need something to make it all better. I was hoping to reach out in our little community and get some adivice. I was thinking possibly the following: Paint (but i don't want the edges) thus I was thinking nice paper, but I thught fabric would be softer. I guess there are actually a couple things to say then. Can anyone give me any ideas? I'm trying to think out of the box, and I need a theme. I love artsy/kitschy (good combo eh?) kinds of stuff. But I also want the boxes not to be entirely uniform but not entirely different (thus theme). It's my challenge to you. I was hoping to get a really varied bunch of ideas, so go crazy and take inspiration from anything!!

OR give me advice advice - like way cheap fabric, pattern ideas, ect.

ANyway, it's late, I need sleep. and I <3 you all!

So... A few months ago I Batiked these ties and scarf, and started to knit the scarf. After finishing each thing and getting halfway done with all- I finally finished them! Friday I steamed and rinsed the batiks (they had all been dyed, but they're usless before they are steamed and rinsed), and finished knitting the scarf. I'm really proud of all of them, especially the ties. I'm really into batik, but had been a little afraid of how the ties would turn out since I'd never dyed ties before, and was also trying out the water-soluable gutta for the first time. With the knit scarf, I'm happy because I like the yarn, but I'm not exactly a knitter, so it's just one of those things for me. I'll have to get my boyfriend to show me how to make a hat, and then maybe I'd enjoy it more. I'd also like to learn more stiches, but I'll have to have him figure it out and show me first (I can't learn from books- I'm too visual). Anyways! Pictures! Read more... )

I've been thinking about this for a while.

What three craft books/magazines could you not live without. Or at least what books/magazines do you find yourself returning to for inspiration/directions/patterns? Magazines/books can be related to any craft, I even find some of my crafting inspiration from home magazines.

Let's see what we are all reading, it might help out someone else.

My three right now are:

A friend had this link on her livejournal, and I thought I's post it.

It is so cute! Kittens in little sleeping bags. It looks like it would be easy to make without a pattern. I wonder if my cats would sleep in it.

hello again!
This is a necklace I made for my friend's birthday =)
Fish, skull, dragonfly and bee charms, and a variety of shapes and colours of swarvoski crystals. chains and findings all in gunmetal or flat black.
We surprised her with a pirate themed mobile party (mobile because we carried everything, including the cake, on a 2 hour bus ride and two taxi rides from hell), and this was her pirate booty!
Yargh! )

cross posted to knitting

I was working on my first knitted toy ever at work (I work on my university's newspaper as Graphics Editor). While I was knitting away at what will soon be the lil horsey butt of Horace the Germantown Horse  one of my co-workers said "Is that one of your grandma things?" referencing back to when I told her my husband and I are like an old married couple because we don't like going out and about on the weekends despite being  in our early 20s.  I immediately was taken aback.  A "grandma thing"?  I repeatedly assured her knitting is most certainly NOT a "grandma thing".  The whole situation got me thinking about the fact that a lot of people don't really realize how wonderful, fun, rewarding, and thereputic knitting can be.  So I've decided to try and write a story for the paper about just how hip and helpful knitting can be.  I decided the best place to start would be here, since I know how many wonderful things everyone here has knitted.  I want to title the article "Knitting is indeed a bitchin' hobby"

Also let me clear up-there is nothing wrong with things being associated to grandma's..grandmas are awesome.  But my problem is that it's widely associated with old ladies, especially in a southern city like I live in and it's not just an old lady thing, people of all ages and genders do it.

So this is what I'm asking, I'd like you guys to fill out a little survey with some info and provide some pictures of some of the least granny things you've made. :)

Gender:
Age:
When you started really knitting:
Approx. how many things you've knitted:
Favorite thing to knit:
Bitchinest thing you ever knit:

Also if anyone knows where I can get a lot of responses from men knitters let me know :)

If you answered on knitting you don't need to answer again :)

If this isn't appropriate feel free to remove you wonderful mods you :)

So My Boy is playing Jack in Sondheim's Into The Woods, and we open a week from today.  I was planning on making something to give to him on opening night, but I can't for the life of me decide what.  I'm a writer, so I'm always giving him things that I've written, and I just gave him a painting on his birthday.  I wanted it to be something that would have a practical purpose, aside from the sentimental one.   But here's the issue;  I was hoping to incorporate the beanstalk.  I've been tossing around the idea of having two little arrows next to the bean stalk - one that points upward, labeled "you"  and another pointing downward, labeled "me".   I've also just gotten into working with wire, so I've also been toying with the idea of having wire vines, but I'm not sure how confident I am in my wire skills.  And I've thought about a little keepsake box, but I really don't know if I'd be able to give that to him backstage (Much less do I know what I'd fill it with....)

I would so appreciate any ideas!

Thank you, lovelies!

I've got a lot of useless cd's floating around, can anyone think of any crafty ideas of anything I can do with them?
I'm one of those people who won't throw out anything in case i can find a creative use for it, and while i don't want to be hording crap... i don't want to throw them out till I know there's nothing i can do with them!

Made a squid stencil shirt for the boyfriend. Not the most complex thing ever, but I like it, I suppose.
