I made some quilted pillow covers for a swap. They didn't turn out as spectacular as I had envisioned them. I still have a lot of learning to do in the quilting field, but I like the scale of this type of project to practice quilting, so I can see me trying them often in the future.

Because I think that handmade gifts are always the nicest, and because I'm a student with only moths inhabiting her wallet; I made one of my bestest friends the coolest present ever, if I don't say so myself. I wanted to keep it for myself, haha. :X Presenting, Maul the malevolent. The Carnivorous rice-filled bean-bag alien that's come to lay eggs in our brains... and be so CUTE while doing it. ^_^

for those of you who are familiar with the band the Bouncing Souls, you'll know the logo i'm talking about.  It's a heart and crossbones, with the new york city skyline in the center.

i'm making a pinata for my boyfriend's bday, and this is his fave band.  i wanna make the pinata look like the heart!  i figure if i use a heart shaped balloon, that'll work nicely.  but idk what to use for the crossbones.   any ideas???

*PS. I'm demma, i'm new, nice to meet you!  I'll post pics of stuff i've done as soon as i figure out how to upload pics. <3 thanx

I happened to get really lucky at the Koninginnedag (Queen's Day in The Netherlands) festivities yesterday and found an awesome vintage Husqvarna sewing machine for only 30 euro!
Pretty behind the cut... )

It's in super shape and I'm very pleased. I was trying to do some research to see about what year it was made... There aren't any dates on it, or the users manual. I am guessing late 50s early 60s, but I really am not sure. Here's the question: Anybody know of a good resource for info on vintage machines? I am sure there's got to be something on the internets somewhere! I looked on ebay and found a couple, but there wasn't any more info on them than I already had. If it helps, the model number is CL8.

Also, in my searches I found a link that might be helpful for beginners looking for a new machine... it seems that question gets asked a lot, so hopefully this might be of use to someone!

Does anybody know if it is safe to spray paint a lamp shade? I have an old lamp shade that I would like to paint/decorate, so any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

Just finished a few paper projects and I'm looking for feedback. These cards aren't for sale as they were gifts and test pieces. Also looking for a critique of my pictures and if you feel they properly display the product.

BAM! )

Cheers!

I found these on crafster and I thought I wanted one. But we haven't got small potato chip bags at home so I opened the fridge and... Chocolate!
Well, this is the result:

Alright, this is my first time making lotion.
I heated the oils, steric acid & emulsifier. Then I heated the Mango butter and added that. Then added essential oils and a preservative. But it's still liquid!
First I bottled it and stuck it in the freezer for 10 minutes thinking it'd thicken, but it separated and most of it was still liquid.
So I poured it back into the pot, heated it up a bit, turned off the heat and I'm whisking it again...still liquid.

What's up?

I saw it on Creative Juice all you do is print out a picture cut it out put this picture this or something on the picture put the picture down to the t shirt let dry 72 hours, then taking a wet cloth gently rub the paper of the back and it's a shirt transfer.

I was also wondering, if you could emboss ink stamp images into a silk tie like you could into velvet with high amounts of rayon, rayon melts under the iron leaving your stamp design behind.

I volunteer to teach art with the Boys and Girls club, and my next session was requested to have a "theater" theme. I have taken some college classes on the subject, and thought that it would be neat to pull out some of my old costuming projects and wear it in for the kids. These are 11-13 year olds.

The final project will be a watercolor comp sheet with swatches. The kids will pick their favorite movie and redo some of the costumes to "better convey the mood" or something. We'll be going through the colors on the color wheel and assigning moods to them, talking about how shapes can help define a feeling or mood (wicked witch wears pointy hat, has pointy hem on dress, wears pointy shoes), talking about how to distress fabrics and such...

Any ideas on small projects that I can have the kids do, that are somehow related?

Making little cutout costume pieces out of paper like a paper doll, perhapse?

Today I had a break in between college exams, so I decided to take advantage of every free minute and do a reconstruction on a thrifted shirt that's been calling out, "Fix me, please, I can be cute!" for a while now. I've been anxious to post on this community for a few months, but homework has robbed me of my life until now!
