luggage tags
May. 13th, 2007 12:29 amhi ya'll...
my best friend and i are going to be studying abroad in london in the fall. her birthday is coming up and i want to make her some customized luggage tags... any idea how to go about doing this? i want to make something cute and unique, so i was thinking it might be cool to make felt luggage tags and sew them. has anyone ever done anything like this or are there any other suggestions for ways i could go about this?
thanks!!

Zippered hoodie to something new :)
May. 13th, 2007 01:51 pmSomehow none of the cardigans I liked seemed to fit well, so I decided to make my own.
Average grey zippered hoodie (with only one sleeve, quite a looooong story, believe me ;))

Gemstone Guide
May. 13th, 2007 02:40 pmI found this really nifty gemstone guide:
http://www.rings-things.com/gemstone/
They're sorted alphabetically and you can even do a search. Almost all of the gemstones have an example image - so hopefully some of you will find this to be a useful tool.

Hiya
Question for you crafty peoples...
I have 50+ necklaces that I wear on a rotating basis, but how should I...keep them? They can be on display, or they can be put in storage, I just need suggestions as to how to keep them from tangling into one big knot, as they currently manage to do in bins and on my "jewelery tree" (a foot high wire structure with branches). Suggestions? I don't mind buying things or making use of wall space, and I would especially like to make something!
TIA
( oh, and so this isn't text-only )

fun buttons that i have made over the past week. they are really addicting to make.
does any one know of a place where the sell cover buttons in bulk? or somewhere where they are inexpensive. buying them at the craft store is getting expensive.

A question...
May. 13th, 2007 09:34 pmI'm trying to recreate Jack Sparrow's compass from Pirates of the Caribbean using this blueprinting tutorial and I've hit a bit of a snag. The lid of the compass has a sort of hollow dome in the middle and I can't quite figure out what I could use to make it. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
ETA: I just thought of making it out of polymer clay. Does it shrink much/at all when you bake it? And what would be a good glue to attach it to the wooden lid?

Make your own chalkboard paint
May. 13th, 2007 11:47 pmNot sure if this has been posted:
http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/how-to/how-to-make-your-own-chalkboard-paint-016134
"Chalkboard paint is easily purchased at any hardware store. But it's only available in black or green. This recipe allows you to create the paint in any color you please:
3 teaspoons acrylic paint (color of choice)
1 1/2 teaspoons glazing medium (water-based)
1/2 teaspoon powder tile grout
Mix all ingredients together, blending very well. Make only as much as you need, as it does not store well."
